Vrindavan, Jan. 10, 2011 (VT). After the disappearance of Shrila Bhaktivedanta Narayan Maharaj on Dec. 29, 2010 in Jagannath Puri, his disciples have been holding a series of meetings to celebrate his passing and prepare for the future of their association.

One such shoka-sabha was held in Vrindavan at the Rupa Sanatan Gaudiya Math in Seva Kunja on Monday.

Ramchandra Das Adhikari from Delhi said, “Just as when the heart is under pressure it pumps more blood, so similarily when the devotees heard of the departure of our beloved Gurudeva we felt so much pressure of separation that it pumped his presence in our veins and we felt even closer to him.”

Shri Vishnu Pande

Acharya Vishnu Pande said that the Acharya never leaves his disciples, so they should not grieve but celebrate his disappearance. “He has entered into the spiritual world from where he continues to inspire them. Krishna himself desires the dust of the Vaishnava’s lotus feet, so naturally he wants them by his side in the nitya Dham.”

The Acharya, though belonging to the Ramanuja sampradaya was good friends with Narayan Maharaj. He always said that Narayan Maharaj makes Gaudiya bhakti shine.

Lakshmi Narayan Panditji also compared the appearance of the devotee guru to the manifestation of the Lord’s eternal pastimes. Like the sun rising and setting, the Lord appears in the world and becomes visible to us and then disappears, so too it is with the pure devotee.

Bhakti Aloka Paramadvaiti Maharaj stressed the necessity for love at the time of the Guru’s disappearance. He said, “This is a time of great difficulty for the disciples, since they have to surrender more than they did even when the Guru was present before them. The only way to proceed forward is to meditate on the Guru’s love and to continue to radiate that love outwards, towards Godbrothers and sisters and then towards the conditioned souls.”

Shrila Bhaktivedanta Madhava Maharaj concluded the meeting by mentioning his many years of constant service as the personal close assistant to Narayan Maharaj, and then he lovingly invited everyone to take prasad.

Four shoka sabhas will be held in all. Yesterday, devotees met in Govardhan, on the 13th, they will meet at Keshavji Gaudiya Math in Mathura and on the 14th in Janakpuri, New Delhi.
