61th Vysa puja 2010 message of HH Jayapataka Swami Maharaj, de Anuradha Bhattacharya
Hare Krishna!
Obeisances to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada!
The Vyasa puja celebration is normally held in Mayapur but this time I am holding it here, in Los Angles, because I am taking a treatment to regain my motion- independent movement. So I like to wish all the devotees around the world my blessings on this Vyasa puja day.
We know that the vyasa puja is the celebration of the appearance of the Guru, as the representative of Vyasa deva and all the previous Achrayas. So through the guru we worship all the previous acharyas. simultaneously we offer the bhoga to the deity and to the Guru. So in this way we celebrate the vyasa puja.
I am very concerned that the disciples might carry on the mission of His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, which is my mission and that they can take up this preaching spirit with great enthusiasm.
I am very grateful for the devotees who helped me in serving me on doing this all through one year and it is great austerity in one sense to not being in Mayapur as that is my Gurudutta desh. Well I understand that this is the desire of the GBC and devotees that I take the therapy.
So please chant Hare Krishna, follow the regulative principles, and worship Caitanya Mahaprabhu. We have heard from Srila Prabhupada, how the devotees, how the people, how the western world, the Eastern world all over the world, that people are into good karma and bad karma, but no one or very few are into devotional service. So what we want to do is invoke the mercy of Lord Caitanya upon all of them, so that they can get pure bhakti awakening in the heart.
Everyone has pure bhakti, but this is like dormant so through the devotees we want people to take this opportunity to make full use of this human form of life and to chant
In this way we can do the greatest benefit for the fallen souls in this kali yuga. Also we know that one good fragrant flower in the forest can give the good name for the whole forest, so like that one good disciple in the parampara will glorify the whole paramapara. so His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, because he took this message around the world. He has created a very good name for the disciplic succession following Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, so we must all be very careful to do the same thing to be a good example of His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
I don’t feel myself so qualified but I am trying I am trying my best and I want my disciples, wellwishers, like godbrothers, god sisters like everyone also try to do what they can to carry out Prabhupada’s mission. This is my primary message. but I would like to speak better. but I am not fully recovered yet. but I am very happy that the disciples and devotes all over the world observing the vyasapuja with enthusiasm and I hope that I will soon be able to recover enough so that I can travel and visit all the disciples and all the disciples in various parts of the world but primarily I want to spend most of my time in India and in Asia, which is my Gurudatta Desh but sometimes also visit Latin America and also vist other parts of Europe and other parts of America and Australia. I like Africa…
I would also like to remind the devotees that this time we want to keep ISKCON integrity very strong. We want to keep ISKCON united, there are enemies who are always trying to divide ISKCON by trying to take off the devotees but we know that Prabhuada wants us to stay together, to stay united so let’s all try to remain very much together serving His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and I am sure that the other senior devotees will be very happy to give extend all their support for you. Here they were very encouraging for me and this is very moving to me that to see how all the God brothers are very much supportive to me at this time when I am trying to recover from a very serious attack so I need all your cooperation to very strictly follow the Krishna conscious system in a regulation and in this way make the best use of the human life.
We want to go where ever Srila Prabhupada is and to help him in Sankirtan movement but while we are here, let us try to do something for His Divine Grace let us work together and in this way we can make the best use of we came to this material world by doing something at least we can save one person and he can go back to Krishna and the whole mission according to Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saravati Thakura will be a success.

According to the Ädi-Varäha Purän, during the advent of Shri Rämacandra, monkeys and bears all brought large rocks and stones from many places to construct a bridge across the ocean. Hanumän also received the order from Shri Rämacandra to help build the bridge. Hanumän uprooted Govardhana from Uttaräïcala, but while carrying him to the ocean he heard a divine sound that announced, “The ocean bridge is now complete. No more rocks are required.”
Hearing this, Hanumän became some sad and put down Shri Giriräja here, where he stands today. Giriräja also became unhappy and said to Hanumän, “You have deprived me of the touch of Sri Räma’s lotus feet. I will curse you.”
“Please forgive me,” Hanumän replied. “In the next Dväparayuga, your desire will be fulfilled. At that time, the Supreme Lord Sri Krishn will stop the worship of Indra and worship you instead. Angered, Indra will try to destroy Vraja by unleashing his thunderbolt and by sending torrential rains. At this time, Shri Krishna will hold you on His hand to protect Vraja. In this way He will fulfil your desire.” Upon saying this, Hanumän leapt into the air and arrived at Shri Rämacandra’s side by the aerial pathways.
After narrating the whole incident to Him, Shri Rämacandra said, “All the rocks that have been assembled to build the bridge have been delivered by the touch of My feet. But I shall fulfil the desires of Govardhana by holding him on My hand and touching him with My whole body. At the close of Dväpara-yuga, I shall take birth in the dynasty of the Yadus and make Govardhana famous as the best servant of Hari by herding the cows with My Sakhäs on his slopes and by enjoying with My beloved gopis in his kunjas."
The Garga-samhita relates the following history of the appearance of Govardhana in Vraja in another age:
Once, in the course of his wanderings, Pulastya Rishi reached Dronäcala Hill. The son of Dronäcala, Govardhana, was very beautiful, fragrant, smooth, and full of luxuriant, green trees and creepers. Pulastya Rishi desired to bring this Govardhana to his place of residence, Käsi, because there was no such hill there on which he could peacefully perform his sädhana-bhajana. He asked Dronäcala to give his son Govardhana to him for this purpose. Dronäcala could not refuse, as he feared being cursed. Govardhana agreed to go, on the condition that if Pulastya put him down somewhere along the way, he would remain there and not move again. The sage accepted his condition, and by mystic power kept Govardhana on his palm as he proceeded to Käsi.
As they reached Vraja, thoughts of Shri Krishna’s future pastimes entered Govardhana’s mind. Govardhana became so heavy that the sage could no longer carry him and was forced to put him down right there. After the sage bathed, chanted his regular mantras, sung his prayers, ate and rested, he tried to lift Govardhana again, but remaining true to his word, Giriräja refused to move. With all his strength the sage tried to lift Govardhana, but could not do so. Finally, he angrily cursed Govardhana, saying, “You will diminish in size by one sesame seed daily.” Govardhana happily accepted this curse, because he knew about the coming descent of the Supreme Lord Krishna. “Syämasundara will perform various pastimes on me, and I shall be blessed,” he thought.
Giriräja does, in fact, diminish in size every day, but who can say whether this is due to the sage’s curse or due to Giriräja’s feelings of separation from Shri Krishna?
Shri Rädhä-Kunda and Shri Syäma-kunda are the two eyes of Giriräja Shri Govardhana, and therefore the best part of his body.
The village of Mukharäi lies one mile south of Rädhä-kunda, along the road to Vrindävana. It is the home of old Mukharä, the maternal grandmother of Shrimati Rädhikä. When Yasodä was a baby, Mukharä breast-fed her. With great pleasure, Grandmother Mukharä secretly arranged meetings between Rädhä and Krishna, the Youthful Couple. She is the mother-in-law of Mahäräja Vrisabhänu( Shri Radhika's Father) and the mother of Kirtidä (Shri Radhika's Mother). The Vrajaväsis used to address her with the name Badai. With great eagerness, she would visit Shrimati Rädhikä and Krishna every morning. There is a temple of Mukharä-devi here.
Kusuma-Sarovara is, about one-and-a-half miles south-west of Shri Rädhä-Kunda. A forest of flowers (Kusuma) was here full of varieties of trees, creepers and flowers like beli, cameli, jühi, yüthi, mallikä and campaka. Shri Rädhikä used to come here on the pretext of picking flowers with Her girlfriends, but Her real intent was to meet rasika Shri Krishna, with whom She would have love- quarrels and sarcastic exchanges full of rasa.
Krishnaa-bhävanämrita describes how one day Shri Rädhikä was picking flowers here with Her girlfriends when Krishna arrived, and the following exchange took place:
Krishna: Who is there?
Rädhä: Nobody.
Krishna: Tell Me honestly, who are You?
Rädhä: Nobody.
Krishsna: You are speaking in a very crooked way.
Rädhä: And You speak in a very straight way, don’t You?
Krishna: I am asking You who You are.
Rädhä: Don’t You know?
Krishna: What are You doing?
Rädhä: Picking flowers to worship the Sungod.
Krishna: Have You received permission from anyone to do so?
Rädhä: There is no need of anyone’s permission.
Krishna: Aha, I have caught a thief today. I wondered who was stealing flowers every day and ruining this garden. Now I have caught You, and will punish You straight away.
Rädhä: Since when have You become the master of this flower garden? Have You ever planted a single flower here? Have You ever even watered one? On the contrary, You ruin this flower garden with Your hundreds and thousands of cows and Your boisterous, brazen friends. Indeed, since when have You become the protector of this garden?
Krishna: Do not defame a pious, righteous person like Me. Now I shall teach You a good lesson.
Rädhä (smiling): Aha-ha, You are a highly pious and righteous person, are You? You killed a woman right after Your birth; You lied to Your mother even in childhood; You stole butter from the houses of the neighbouring gopis; and when You became a little older, You stole the clothes of the young gopis. Only a few days ago You killed a bull. This is the extent of Your pious, saintly conduct.
Hearing the retort, Krishna scratched His head and looked towards clever Madhumangala, who advised Him, “One’s wellbeing lies in remaining quiet.” At this point, all the sakhis surrounded Syämasundara and began to clap.
