ISKCON Melbourne, AU: Today's Darsana
SS Radha Ballabha look absolutely stunning everytime Rasa Krishna Prabhu dresses Them.
The pujaris for today were:
Sri Murti Mataji dressing Chota Radha Krishna so beautifully;
Bhaktiman Prabhu dressed SS Gaura Nitai and Aditi Mataji decorated Chota Gaura Nitai;
and Kamaleshwari Gopi Mataji did an excellent job on SS Jaganatha, Baladeva and Subhadra Mayi.
Here's a slideshow of the devotion and love that those expert devotees put in serving the Lords of their hearts.
Madhava Ghosh dasa, New Vrndavan, USA: Passive Air Conditioning
We are having a white standing seam metal roof installed on our house. According to experts, Reflective White Roofing Cuts Energy Costs 20%. Our savings won’t be that great because we don’t run an air conditioner in any case, but it will certainly contribute to the comfort level of our home during the hot parts of the year.
Because of the energy savings, there is a Federal Income tax credit of 30% for going white roof. That means I can deduct 30% of the cost of the roof directly from the bottom line taxes owed, ergo means a discount on the roofing of 30%. We usually don’t make enough to owe any Federal income tax but this year is the exception because we did get some gas lease signing bonus money so we decided to spend that money on a new 40 year roof and use the tax credit.
A 40 year roof means it will outlive me and so no more worries about the roof needing repair when I am too old and broke to do it.
The 30% tax credit also applies to solar installations so we are having a solar thermal collection system installed to provide our hot water. The roofers should finish today and the solar guys are coming tomorrow.
We shopped around for the best price roofing price and ended up hiring a young Amish guy. He is in the rumspringa stage of life which means he drives a van, has a cell phone and an gmail.com address. He is the youngest of 16 children. 1 has moved away, 14 are married and doing the Amish culture thing, and he can still go back. Pretty good retention rate.
They hired a guy who came and formed the roofing right on site.
It forms it by running the flat sheet through a series of rollers.
It has a punch to make the holes for the screws and a shear at the end to cut it off at the measured length.
The roofers tell him the length and he forms what they want so there is no end waste. There is some as they go around smokestacks, vent pipes and sky lights but it is minimal.
They had some really grippy rubber overshoes because there was ice on the roof but managed 3 days of work without falling off the roof even once!
They would speak English to me but between themselves they were speaking Amish.
Bharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: Behave Properly And Preach
To make a show of devotional service will not help one. One must be a pure devotee following the devotional process; then one can convert others to devotional service. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu practiced devotional service and preached (apani acari' bhakti karila pracara). If a preacher behaves properly in devotional service, he will be able to convert others. Otherwise, his preaching will have no effect.

How to make distinction between being whimsical and following the senses and acting on the basis of the intelligence?

Thankyou Bharatram Prabhu for this excellent reply. Is the washerman story told elsewhere? Is it in Ramacarit manas?
Doyal Gauranga dasa & Gadadhar Pandit dasa, NYC: Morning meditation
Congratulations to our early morning, late-in-the semester, meditation warriors! Today was our last morning meditation of the semester. With tens of thousands of thoughts rushing through our mind each day, how often do we take the time to pause, sit still, and observe our own consciousness? If you weren't able to make it today, don't worry. We'll start again next semester.

Excerpts from Sri Harinama Cintamani (spoken by Haridasa Thakura to Lord Caitanya and written by Bhaktivinoda Thakura):
Nondevotees are of three kinds:
“There are three kinds of non-devotees: the Mayavadi, the dharmadhvaji (pretender), and the nirisvara (atheist). Mayavadis do not accept that the Supreme Lord’s form is eternal. They say the Deity form of the Lord is illusory or maya, and that the jiva is also a product of maya. A dharmadhvaji is a person who has no devotion or attachment in the heart but makes a show of it externally. He wears the clothes of a devotee to accomplish materialistic ends. A nirisvara is a non-believer, an atheist. A serious aspirant or sadhaka must shun such bad association. If anyone argues that criticizing such non-devotees is sadhu-ninda, his company must also be meticulously avoided. One has to keep away from bad association and take complete shelter of the holy name. Only then is love of Godhead assured.
Mayavadis are often sannyasis or gurus, and they have followers. They believe that the Absolute Truth is formless, or that every person is God. Dharmadhvajis are persons who are bogus religionists who are wearing the dress of religious people but who are after money or followers. The nirisvara is an outright atheist who makes propaganda against God. They are increasing nowadays. Many atheistic scientists are current. They believe in some theory of the origin of creation such as that it happened by chance or by an impersonal explosion. All these people are very dangerous, and they should be avoided. There is no harm in criticizing them, and they cannot be sheltered by the theory that they are sadhus and one should not criticize them.My alarm clock is set for 2:30 A.M., but by mistake I woke up at 1:30 this morning and got up from bed and began chanting. I’ve not been getting enough sleep lately, and that is my main problem. My body is worn out. So my chanting was slow and not of a high performance. I’m in a bit of a slump and have to get out of it, mainly by getting enough rest. My journal-keeping suffers also when I don’t get enough rest.
There are various kinds of
offending nondevotees and
an aspiring devotee must avoid
their company. Sometimes it is
hard to recognize them but
if you scrutinize you will see their
glaring faults. The most prominent is the Mayavadi.
It is said a fool cannot be told
until he speaks. As soon as
the impersonalist begins his discourse
he offends the Supreme Lord, saying He
has no face, no eternal body, no
eternal devotees. Hearing the signature
words of the Mayavadis, you should
avoid that place or argue with him.
Showboat religious ministers who dress
like priests but who conduct programs just
to collect your money should be avoided like
the plague. Charging for
mantras and selling tickets to their shows and
charging for discipleship are all
signs of bogus teacher. And then
there are the outright atheist ranters
like Marx and Darwin and their
modern followers. They say there is no
need for God and that His followers are
the cause of all the troubles of the world.
Fanatic extremists are not true God followers,
and He should not be blamed for their behavior. One should not protect these offenders and say it
is sadhu-ninda to criticize them.
Those defenders should also be avoided
by one who wants to truly worship God.
H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Prabhupada Meditations
“Remembering the spiritual master is an important and frequent topic in Vedic literature. Yasya deve para bhaktir . . . Only to one who has implicit faith in guru and Krishna are the imports of Vedic literature revealed. So we may remember the spiritual master in a philosophical way, in his tattva or ‘category’—he is the representative of Vishnu. We also remember him in a personal way, recalling the activities and qualities of His Divine Grace. When you read in the sastras of the liberated person, the bona-fide spiritual master, it’s very reassuring because you have no doubt that your Srila Prabhupada is a bona-fide acarya. He fits the bill in all respects.
The spiritual master is addressed as ‘Prabhupada’ because he is a completely self-realized soul. The word ‘pada’ means ‘position,’ and ‘Prabhupada’ indicates that he is given the position of prabhu, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead, for he acts on behalf of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. (Bhag. 4.23.18, purport)
“Take a Vedic reference on the importance of the guru and savor it, giving thanks to Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada: ‘The spiritual mastered is honored as much as the Supreme Lord because he is the most confidential servitor of the Lord.’
“Srila Prabhupada also told us of important guru meditations which occurred in his own life. As soon as he met Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati in 1922, Srila Prabhupada realized that this was his spiritual master, ‘Not officially, but in my heart.’ Srila Prabhupada did not move into the asrama of his guru but continued traveling throughout India doing business as a householder. But he would often stop and think of the wonderful Vaisnava who had entered his life by Krishna’s arrangement: ‘I have met such a nice saintly person.’
“Years later while reading Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura’s commentary, Srila Prabhupada was struck by the force of this statement: Just as life-breath is essential to a living being, so the order of the guru should be the life-breath of the disciple. Thinking upon this deeply changed Srila Prabhupada’s life.”
H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Learning the Bhajana
Krishna, please reach to me. Not
infrequently I see Your name mentioned in a poem
but with slight resemblance to the
Gaudiya message.I almost want to come down and
play it right. Though I cannot read sheet
music I know it’s a boy and girl
sitting under the full moon in the sarat
season on a swing.“How much?”
“Just give me the music, and I’ll be able to pay the price.”
He doubts me askance as if
I’m a charlatan or sucker come from Kolnakopagne in a taxi
with a notebook under my arm.
Krishna boy and girl,
he has barely heard about it.“Four quid!”
“For the picture of the boy and girl?”
“No, with the music, it’s six quid.”“You’ve got a deal!”
They shake hands, and I went up to my room
so to be private and play
“Bhaja Hure Mana”
and “Jaya Radha Madhava.”But I can’t do it so I travel
over to Aniruddha’s place in Wicklow,
and he teaches me harmonium for a day.
He has to go to a job at Dublin,
but I think that I have learned it.That night, in this first place
I stayed, I play again. They clap
their hands and slap their thighs
singing in joyous chorus
in the Radha-Krishna bhajana.

I turned at random to Srimad-Bhagavatam, Canto 3, Chapter 29, text 45:
“The eternal time factor has no beginning and no end. It is the representative of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the maker of the criminal world. It brings about the end of the phenomenal world, it carries on the work of creation by bringing one individual into existence from another, and likewise, it dissolves the universe by destroying even the lord of death, Yamarāja.”
Purport: “By the influence of eternal time, which is a representative of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the father begets a son, and the father dies by the influence of cruel death. But by time’s influence, even the lord of cruel death is killed. In other words, all the demigods within the material world are temporary, like ourselves, our lives last for one hundred years at the most, and similarly, although their lives may last for millions and billions of years, the demigods are not eternal. No one can live within this material world eternally. . . . The servitude of the Supreme Lord and His devotee exists eternally; the Lord exists eternally, His servitor exists eternally, and the service exists eternally.”
The First Canto isn’t forming yet into a story. There is the story of its composition. The first time it was spoken by Narada to Vyasadeva, then Vyasadeva to Sukadeva, and Sukadeva to Suta. Now Suta is speaking to the sages at Naimisaranya. They are establishing that Krishna is the Absolute Truth, the origin of all (janmady asya yatah). Examples are given to show everything has an origin and hints of what the Srimad-Bhagavatam will reveal and who are its main commentators. One should not hear the Bhagavatam from a professional reciter who jumps right into the Tenth Canto without thoroughly understanding and explaining the first nine cantos. I am finding it a little stiff compared to Caitanya-bhagavata, but I’m sticking to it and intend to write little paraphrases. Don’t admit defeat at the start of the great epic.
I dreamt I was back in the Navy. I was in a room with other sailors who were lounging and sleeping. I was seventy-one years old, called back in, and I assumed I was again in the Public Information Office. But I had no duties and was scheduled to be discharged soon. But then there was a war beginning between Japan and the USA. A Japanese plane had shot down an American plane. A newspaper was being prepared on the ship, but I had nothing to do with it, so how could I be serving in the P.I.O.? I debated with the sailors that it was not a full-scale war, just an opening incident. One of the Navy pilots said he wished he had shot down a Japanese airplane. It was very worrisome. I thought and thought and gradually realized I was having a dream, and there was no war with Japan. Then, while awake, I was impressed that there wasn’t a major war between countries. The big thing now is terrorism and the fear that terrorist groups will get a hold of major nuclear fire power and bomb cities in the Western countries like the USA. Life goes on as if normal in peacetime, but there is great threat.
On TV and movies or Blu-ray TV games, the big thing is violence. People want fantasy with alien races, Mideast terrorists, and with Mafia-like gangs. Guns and cops and robbers. It’s the biggest thing—violence and sex. The line between wanting it in fantasy and wanting it in reality. Give us a tough guy with a big gun, exploding a car or a building. Give us a half-undressed woman with a pistol or being knifed. Give us two football players crashing helmets, “It’s only a concussion. That’s what we want, real football.” And then ask for peace. “Drink responsibly,” and then get drunk and drive your car off the road or into another car.
It snowed overnight and stuck to the ground. Laksmana was outside the house making circles and “snow angels.” Subhadra was also excited. The powdered covering held no interest for Kaulini. She’s playing in her first basketball game tomorrow night, and we are invited.

Australian News: The most auspicious occasion of appearance of Bhagavad Gita – 17th December
The 17th of December, 2010, is the most auspicious occasion of the appearance of the Bhagavad Gita – the day when Lord Sri Krsna spoke the Supreme Knowledge with His own Lotus mouth in order to deliver suffering souls.
Vaikuntha ekadasi, which is one of the most important, is to be observed on the same day.
On this very special day you are invited to participate in the recitation of all 18 chapters of Srimad Bhagavad Gita at 11 Flinders St, Mount Druitt, in NSW, Australia. The recitation will be followed by uninterrupted Kirtan of Hare Krsna Maha Mantra & Srimad Bhagavatam into next morning until the Ekadasi fast is broken.
We will need lead kirtan singers and devotees wanting to recite the Gita. For further details how you can serve and participate please contact Viraja Krsna dasa on 0406 539 970.
Ekadasi Prasadam will be served from 6 pm and recitation of Gita will start at 7 pm sharp.
The effect of loving recitation of Bhagavad Gita on this day is very auspicious. When we recite with faith regularly, all inauspiciousness in our mind and heart vanishes. While singing the glories of Gita Suta Goswami says in Shri Vaishnaviya tantra saara:
yo `dhite vishnu-parvaahe, gitaam shri hari-vaasare
svapan jaagrat calan tishthan, shatrubhir na sa hiyate“A person who studies the Gita at the time of holy festival days especially the fasting day known as Ekadasi – such a person, whether awake or asleep, moving or still, is never defeated by enemies.”
Krishna is personally present when we recite Bhagavad Gita and so there is no question of defeat for devotees. As confirmed by Sanjaya in Bhagavad Gita (18.78)
yatra yogeshavaro krsno, yatra paartho dhanurdharah
tatra shrir vijayo bhutir dhruvaa nithir matir mamaSuta Goswami in this scripture, Shri Vaishnaviya tantra saara has very nicely explained the various merits and blessings bestowed on the devotees who sincerely recite Bhagavad Gita, the effects of worshiping Bhagavad Gita in the homes, and the type of benedictions offered by
the Lord to those who distribute this sacred book to others. He further explains Lord is very pleased with His devotees when they gift this book to others. Lord is more pleased when a devotee engages in discussing Bhagavad Gita with other souls.yah shrnoti ca gitaartham, kirtayaty eva yah param
shraavayec ca paraartham vai, sa prayaati param padam“One who attentively hears and sings the glories of the purport of the Gita, or reiterates that purport to others-such a person attains to the supreme destination. ”
In verse 44-45 of this scripture Lord Krishna says
shri bhagavaan uvaaca
gitaa me hrdayam paartha gitam me saaram uttamam
gitaa me jnaanam aty ugram, gitaa me jnaanam avyayam
gitaa me cotttamam sthaanam gitaa me paramam padam
gitaa me paramam guhyam gitaa me paramo guruh“The Supreme Lord said: Oh Partha, the Gita is My heart, the Gita is
My supreme essence, and the Gita is intense, imperishable knowledge of
Me.The Gita is My supreme shelter, the Gita is My supreme abode, the
Gita is My most hidden treasure, and especially, the Gita is My
supreme guru.”Srimad Bhagavad Gita ki Jai !
Let us take shelter of this holy scripture on this day and recite it with love and faith.

Rupa Madhurya das, TX, USA: Bhajan & Dance - The Mayapuris - Story of Lord Shiva - 3/4
The Mayapuris performed at the Dallas temple for Radhastami. This bhajan, dance, and narration tells a story of Lord Shiva and his desire to worship Lord Krishna. I won't spoil the story by putting a summary here. This performance is absolutely incredible.
Yes, it is long. I couldn't find a natural breaking point so I uploaded the whole thing as one clip. Enjoy!
