PASTIMES IN THIS MONTH OF KARTIKA

Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja, Kartika, 2003

[For the spiritual purification of the world, the great master of mystic powers Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja is performing a pastime of illness. He did this to a certain extent during Kartika 2002 as well. At that time we heard his discourse by phone. We were in Vrndavana and he was in Delhi, just like now. In that regard, here is Part 2 of the lecture entitled, "A Phoned Glorification of Kartika Month." In describing the many important pastimes that took place in this holy month of Kartika, which in turn establish the glory of Kartika, Paramaradhya Srila Maharaja discussed several verses from Srimad-Bhagavatam:]
dhanyah sma mudha-gatayo 'pi harinya eta
ya nanda-nandanam upatta-vicitra-vesam
akarnya venu-ranitam saha-krsna-sarah
pujam dadhur viracitam pranayavalokaih
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.21.11)

It was during this month, while feeling separation from Krsna, that the gopis lamented, "We are not fortunate like the deer in this forest. People say they are foolish, but they are not so. We are foolish, because we don't know how to love Krsna like these deer. When prema is very high, it breaks all boundaries. These deer, although by nature very shy, have broken all boundaries by their intense love for Krsna. They gave up their shyness, they approached Him, and they are exchanging their hearts feelings with Him through their loving glances. We cannot do this, and therefore we are unfortunate. We will be lucky if we can die and take birth as deer in our next life. In that way we can see Krsna and approach Him when He is cow-grazing."

In this month the gopis remembered that when Krsna plays on His flute in the forest, the cows become stunned. With eyes of transcendental emotions the gopis see both Krsna and the cows, and further lament in their mood of separation. They see that although it is the nature of animals to spend their time in eating, when Krsna plays His flute these cows forget to eat and instead pick up their ears to hear. Humans have very small ears, but cows have large ears, like cups. Through the cups of their ears these cows drink the nectar of Krsna's flute playing, and when they taste it they forget everything else. They have grass in their mouths, but they forget to chew. Even the calves, who were drinking the milk from the udders of their mothers, are like this. The milk is coming into their mouths, but they have forgotten to swallow. They simply stand with tears gliding down from their eyes, and they embrace Krsna in the core of their hearts.

The love of the cows is not as high as that of the gopis, but due to the nature of their own prema, the gopis think the cows are greater. Those who are maha-bhagavatas, and what to say of maha-maha-bhagavatas like the gopis, see their own love and their own mood in all others. Yet they think, "I am unfortunate; I have no love."

In this month, Sri Radhika lamented in separation:
purnah pulindya urugaya-padabja-raga
sri-kunkumena dayita-stana-manditena
tad-darsana-smara-rujas trna-rusitena
limpantya anana-kucesu jahus tad-adhim
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.21.16)

["The aboriginal women of the Vrndavana area become disturbed by lust when they see the grass marked with reddish kunkuma powder. Endowed with the color of Krsna's lotus feet, this powder originally decorated the breasts of His beloveds, and when the aboriginal women smear it on their faces and breasts, they feel fully satisfied and give up all their anxiety."]

This is an example of Radhika's madanakhya-mahabhava (the highest ecstatic love for Krsna). Here She glorifies the aboriginal girls who live in the forest, and She says that they are lucky – whereas She is not. In the morning time, when they walk around Giriraja Govardhana, they see some red kunkuma powder on the grass and go to pick it up. This kunkuma came from the lotus feet of Krsnacandra when He was returning home in the early morning on the damp grass, but it originally came from the breasts of His beloved. The Pulindi girls think themselves to be very fortunate to obtain this kunkuma. Simply by their smelling the fragrance, Krsna appears in their hearts, and then they smear that kunkuma paste all over their bodies and faces and thus meet with Krsna in their hearts. There He fulfills all their desires.

Radhika is thinking that these Pulindi girls are fortunate, but more fortunate is the grass because it was directly touched by Krsna's feet. Even more fortunate is that beloved gopi from whose breasts this kunkuma has come. That gopi is Radhika Herself, but because of Her madanakya-mahabhava she forgets this – and instead glorifies others.

Govardhana-puja also took place in this month. All the Vrajavasis worshiped Giriraja Govardhana and performed Annakuta Mahotsava. Seeing this, Indra became very angry and created torrential rain, and Krsna cut away his pride. In this month, Indra came and worshiped Krsna after his pride was cut, all the demigods performed kirtana, and Krsna received the name Govinda.

Saradiya rasa-lila was also performed in this month. As stated in Srimad-Bhagavatam:
sri-badarayanir uvaca
bhagavan api ta ratrih
saradotphulla-mallikah
viksya rantum manas cakre
yoga-mayam upasritah
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.29.1)

["Sri Badarayani said: Sri Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, full in all opulences. Yet upon seeing those autumn nights scented with blossoming jasmine flowers, He turned His mind toward loving affairs. To fulfill His purposes He employed His internal potency."]

Although Krsna is Bhagavan, and although He is atmarama (taking pleasure within) and aptakam (fully satisfied), in this month He became inspired by the beauty of the Vrndavana forest. There, in the middle of the night, He left his home and took shelter of Yogamaya:
drstva kumudvantam akhanda-mandalam
ramananabham nava-kunkumarunam
vanam ca tat-komala-gobhi ranjitam
jagau kalam vama-drsam manoharam
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.29.3)

["Lord Krsna saw the unbroken disk of the full moon glowing with the red effulgence of newly applied vermilion, as if it were the face of the goddess of fortune. He also saw the kumuda lotuses opening in response to the moon's presence and the forest gently illumined by its rays. Thus the Lord began to play sweetly on His flute, attracting the minds of the beautiful-eyed gopis."]

He began to play on His flute, and the flute sound entered the hearts of the Vraja gopis. They became mugdha, completely bewildered and, forgetting everything else, they ran into the forest to meet with Him.

In this month, the gopis who were locked inside their homes were brought to Krsna by a mood of their very strong fire of separation from Krsna. By this viraha-tap, any imperfection in the moods of those who did not yet have sufficient association with the nitya-siddha gopis was completely burned away. By deeply meditating in intense separation they at once met with Krsna in their hearts and embraced Him. These sweet pastimes took place in this month.

In this month the gopis saw the footprints of Radhika and said:
anayaradhito nunam
bhagavan harir isvarah
yan no vihaya govindah
prito yam anayad rahah
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.30.28)

["Certainly this particular gopi has perfectly worshiped the all-powerful Personality of Godhead, Govinda, since He was so pleased with Her that He abandoned the rest of us and brought Her to a secluded place."]

"This gopi, whom Krsna has taken alone into the forest, leaving all the rest of us, is most fortunate." In this way, all the Vraja gopis give honor to Srimati Radhika in this month. When Krsna disappeared from rasa-lila, the gopis cried and sang in separation the verses from Gopi-gita. One example is as follows:
tava kathamrtam tapta-jivanam
kavibhir iditam kalmasapaham
sravana-mangalam srimad atatam
bhuvi grnanti ye bhuri-da janah
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.31.9)

["The nectar of Your words and the descriptions of Your activities are the life and soul of those suffering in this material world. These narrations, transmitted by learned sages, eradicate one's sinful reactions and bestow good fortune upon whoever hears them. These narrations are broadcast all over the world and are filled with spiritual power. Certainly those who spread the message of Godhead are most munificent."]

This verse is so sweet and powerful that when Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu heard it from the lotus mouth of Maharaja Prataparudra, He told him, "You have given me so many valuable jewels. I have nothing to give you in return; I have only have my self, so I am embracing you." When Mahaprabhu embraced Prataparudra Maharaja, the bhavas and sweet meanings of the verses of Gopi-gita manifested in his heart.

In this month Krsna told the gopis of Vrndavana:
na paraye 'ham niravadya-samyujam
sva-sadhu-krtyam vibudhayusapi vah
ya mabhajan durjara-geha-srnkhalah
samvrscya tad vah pratiyatu sadhuna
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.30.22)

["I am not able to repay My debt for your spotless service, even within a lifetime of Brahma. Your connection with Me is beyond reproach. You have worshiped Me, cutting off all domestic ties, which are difficult to break. Therefore please let your own glorious deeds be your compensation."]

Krsna said, "O My dear gopis, you have left all other obligations, including your families, and all other dharmas for me. This is very difficult to give up, but you have left all this for my happiness only. Therefore, even if I have a lifetime as long as Brahma, and even if I will serve you for many such lifetimes, still I would not be able to repay you. I would always be indebted to you for the love you have given me."

After describing these pastimes of Rasa-lila and Gopi-gita, Srila Sukadeva Gosvamipada stated:
vikriditam vraja-vadhubhir idam ca visnoh
sraddhanvito 'nusrnuyad atha varnayed yah
bhaktim param bhagavati pratilabhya kamam
hrd-rogam asv apahinoty acirena dhirah
(Srimad-Bhagavatam 10.33.39)

["Anyone who faithfully hears or describes the Lord's playful affairs with the young gopis of Vrndavana will attain the Lord's pure devotional service. Thus he will quickly become sober and conquer lust, the disease of the heart."]

Bhagavan Sri Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He is transcendental and His katha (descriptions of His glories and pastimes) is very powerful. Of all types of such katha, the katha of His servants is more powerful, the katha of his friends is more powerful, the katha of his parents in vatsalya-bhava is still more powerful, and the katha of His sporting with the young brides of Vraja is the highest and most powerful katha. It is so powerful that if even a fallen or sinful person hears it with faith, it can purify him. If one understands this and hears this katha, gopi-prema must enter into that person's heart, kick aside all anarthas, and turn him into a parama-bhagavata, topmost devotee.

In this month, Krsna killed the demon Sankasura and cut the jewel from his forehead. He then entered the company of all the gopis, who were all wondering to whom He would give that jewel. Krsna was thinking, "If I give the jewel to one, the others will be upset." Therefore, to avoid an argument among the gopis, Krsna gave the jewel to Baladeva Prabhu, who gave it to Madhumangala, who gave it to Srimati Radhika.

In this month Krsna killed Aristasura, and as a result of that killing Radha Kunda and Syama Kunda were manifest. That pastime took place today, (Oct 28th) and this holy day is called Bahulastami.

In this month, Krsna killed the demons Kesi and Vyomasura, and in this month Akrura came to Vraja and took Krsna and Balarama to Mathura. Krsna also killed Kamsa in this month.

In this month Krsna and Balarama performed the upanaya-sanskara (sacred thread ceremony). Because they had been brought up in Vraja, they have the mood that, "I am a cowherd boy and Mother Yasoda and Nanda Baba are My parents." However, Vasudeva and Devaki think, "We are the real parents of Krsna. It is part of the Vedic tradition that parents arrange for the upanaya-sanskara of their child, so if we arrange this function for Krsna, the impression will come in his heart that, "Vasudeva and Devaki are My parents." They tried to do this, but they failed. Krsna had already received the Radha mantra from Bhaguri Rsi. He received this mantra when He was in Vraja, but at that time He had no upanaya-sanskara. His upanaya-sanskara was performed in Mathura according to the duties of ksatryas.

Gargacarya gave Krsna the brahma-gayatri mantra, and when Krsna heard this mantra He fainted. Why? Radhika is the predominating deity of gayatri. Then, after His fire yajna, Krsna was looking for his mother and called out, "O Mother, where are you?" Devaki was standing near Him, but Krsna did not approach her – for He was looking for Mother Yasoda. In this way, although the Mathuravasis made the plan to give Krsna the sanskana that He is the son of Vasudeva and Devaki, it failed. This pastime took place in this month.

Sri Narada Rsi received the benediction from Krsna that those who will hear His sweet lila-katha in the places of His pastimes, especially during this Kartika month, will surely attain krsna-prema very soon. We should therefore have confidence; we need never become hopeless. We should know that by performing all these simple activities – offering a ghee lamp every day, attending mangal-arati, performing kirtana, singing Sri Damodarastakam, doing parikrama, offering maha-prasada, observing Annukuta Mahotsava, hearing hari-katha in all the pastime places – there is no doubt about success. It is only a question of time, and that time will not be very long. We will attain Krsna-prema and thus serve Radha-Krsna Yugala.

Sri Radhastami

By Giriraj Swami

A godbrother of mine had a nice thought. Just imagine Krsna's situation. There He is in the spiritual sky, Goloka Vrndavana, surrounded by wish-fulfilling cows and trees and gems, being served by unlimited numbers of beautiful, pure, loving devotees. And off somewhere in a cloud is a bunch of angry, morose, belligerent souls, each determined that "I'm not going to serve Him."

H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Thursday 16 September 2010--Living in Krishna in London--and--More Arguments Against Meat Eating

Our brief stop in London on the way to Bulgaria was ecstatic, a sublime opportunity to once again share the inner secrets of the amazing transcendental science of Krishna consciousness. I explained to the packed hall of eager listeners how even though a devotee may externally be living in London, the real fact is that is living in Krishna. In our everyday...

Bharatavarsa.net: Book distribution seminar: Srila Prabhupada's Mercy Is for ALL

As we looked down the list of all the libraries in Pretoria South Africa, one stood out: the Winterveld library. This was the only library that had no phone number. Not knowing how to contact Winterveld, we called the head office of the Community Libraries of Pretoria and asked if they had a phone number or a physical address. But they said they had no contact information for this library and they'd never communicated with them! That was quite strange. To top it off, all Google searches for Winterveld library in Pretoria also proved fruitless. This left us a little disappointed. How would we get Srila Prabhupada's books to this library? Sadly, we reconciled ourselves to the likelihood that maybe we wouldn't be the ones to introduce Srila Prabhupada's books to Winterveld library. Maybe in the future devotees would be able to find the library and give them books. So, resigning ourselves to helplessness, we left Winterveld off our list.

A while later we were delivering Srila Prabhupada's books to the few libraries in Soshanguve, the northernmost part of the city. Somehow, by the Lord's arrangement we had an extra set of books with us from the previous delivery. After reaching the last library on our route, we handed over Srila Prabhupada's books and the librarian thanked us kindly. She asked, "Have you given books to the Winterveld library?" We were thrilled to hear her utter the name of this elusive library! We explained our struggle to contact this library and said we would love to give books to the Winterveld library. In fact, we told her, we happened to have an extra set with us. The librarian immediately volunteered to take us to the Winterveld library, almost half an hour's drive further north.

Winterveld turned out to be a rundown suburb far from the city. The library had recently been built to aid the community but was struggling financially. The Winterveld librarian was really surprised to see the set of brand-new books we donated to her library. She also explained why they have no telephone number. "It's the crime," she said. "Criminals often break into the library and steal whatever they can get their hands on: petty things like stationery or a telephone handset. That's why we have no telephone or other electronic communication with the world. Last time they broke in, they saw nothing of value so they stole the flushing mechanism of the toilet!"

"Wow," I exclaimed, "at least they didn't steal the books!"

The library did have a few serious people, including schoolchildren, reading its limited selection of books. With Srila Prabhupada's books now occupying a prominent place on the bookshelves of the library at Winterveld, surely devotees will be made there in the very near future. Srila Prabhupada's mercy is truly available for ALL. (Text D:3551735) -------------------------------------------

Japa Group: Simple Sincere Uttering Of His Name

Chanting creates a loving exchange between Krishna and the chanter. He likes it when we call on His holy names and a bond is created. A devotee is grateful to Krishna, and Krishna becomes grateful to the devotee. Krishna cannot be pleased by any amount of material offerings or displays of scholarship or austerity as much as He can be pleased by the simple sincere uttering of His name by a humble devotee.

3:25 A.M.

Namamrita by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

If Krishna sees that one is chanting Hare Krishna sincerely, He helps internally and externally: We should try to avoid the ten offences in chanting the holy name but anyone who chants Hare Krishna sincerely is purified ceto darpana marjanam bhava maha davagni dirvapanam [CC Antya 20-12] (Siksastaka 1). This is the easiest process by which the mirror of the mind can be cleansed. If Krishna sees that someone is sincerely chanting Hare Krishna, He will help. He is within everyone and He can understand whether one is sincere or not. Krishna helps the sincere devotee internally and externally. Internally He helps as Paramatma by giving intelligence from within dadami buddhi yogam tam. Externally he helps as His representative, the spiritual master.( Teachings of Lord Kapila the son of Devahuti.)

This excerpt declares that Krishna helps the sincere chanter. It is several times mentioned that the chanting must be sincere in order to get Krishna's help. Krishna is reciprocal to the chanting of Hare Krishna mantra. He wants us to advance and come closer to Him. And when we chant He reaches out to us. It is sometimes said that if we go one step forward, Krishna will go ten steps forward toward us. He is very concerned for the living entities and wants them to come home back to Godhead. In Kali-yuga He has made it as easy as possible through the harinama process. He gives us intelligence from within how to approach Him when we chant. And He sends us the spiritual master to give us all guidance.

We certainly need help. We cannot go it alone. Even though the mantra is given Krishna has to help us to bring us toward Him through chanting. The key is sincerity.

I slept alright and woke a little bit after one o'clock. My chanting was routine but a little distracted by the wandering mind. I kept bringing it back to attention but it would fly off again and it was disquieting. But I chanted my full quota or sixteen rounds before 3:30 so that is a solace. One is sorry that one doesn't chant with more sincerity and get more help from Krishna as stated in this morning's Namamrita quote. The chanting can be improved and then Krishna is waiting to bring you to higher stages but it requires more effort on your part. A complacent or distracted chanting will not be as effective as fervent prayerful japa.

Krishna wants to help.
He is concerned about
your chanting. He
wants it to improve.
He does not want us
to stay at the lowest
neophyte stage. But
He wants to see some
yearning and praying
and crying out. The
chanting must become
emotive for Krishna
to be moved to help
us move more close to Him.
Why don't we improve? What is this causeless
unwillingness to reach out while you still
have time? Your
chanting moves along
a plateau but it
must be inclined
to bring about the
desired results. Pray
for inclination
in the fervor  of your yajna.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Prabhupada Smaranam

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

One Hundred Prabhupada Poems # 29Prabhupada, I told it to my
Writing Session, but now directly
to you – we have come to a P-stop
off the highway in South France.
This is the frontier where
I can asses my voluntary commitment
to Krishna consciousness.

Father, I spent time reading
your book this morning, about
those who live like animals.

Father, I'm sleepy and the flies are
bothering me. Once I went to see
a Vaishnava at Seva-kunja.
He was in a small
room with no furniture, screens
on the windows to prevent
monkeys from entering.
The room overlooked Seva-kunja.
Monkeys crawled at the screen window,
begging for food. It didn't seem
very pleasant or clean or peaceful
to me with my notions.
Why do I mention it now?
Maybe to say only that I'm tired
with flies bothering me in France and
if I were in Vrindavana, I'd flee
from Seva-kunja.
But still you find some
use for me.

1.
This is not from the past
but just some injunctions
on the strict, faithful
life. It's best to live
that way, following your
Prabhupada. This tells
of some distinctions in
style and warns you to
stay on the straight
and narrow.

H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Radhastami in Viraha Bhavan

www.sdgonline.org. SDGonline Daily updates

Free write

We're trying to get Rama-raya here early enough so he can participate in Radhastami ceremony. Damodara is also coming from Boston bringing many prasadam preparations. Rama-raya is bereft over the disappearance of his leader and friend Aindra Prabhu but is determined to carry on with the twenty-four hour kirtana in Vrindavana. We'll be lucky if we get him before he returns to India. He sings excellently with harmonium and is very well versed in Radha-Krishna pastimes. If he doesn't make it here on time I may have to speak myself although I cannot do it as well as he can. I would speak on what I wrote in Free Write yesterday about the "aradhita" verse of Srimad Bhagavatam and the gopis seeing the footprints. In speaking about Radharani I like to speak of Lord Caitanya as the path to Radha-Krishna pastimes. You can't go directly to Radha-Krishna but you have to go through the sankirtana movement. The chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra gradually brings one to raganuga sadhana bhakti. I'd like to speak of Lord Caitanya as Krishna coming in the mood and golden complexion of Radharani. In the Gambhira in the presence of His intimate associated He expressed Radharani's feelings of separation from Krishna. Krishna das Kaviraja gives the confidential reasons why Lord Caitanya appeared and they are all in connection with Radha. First of all, He wanted to take the position of Radharani. As Krishna in His original form, He was not able to take the position of Radha. But as Caitanya-deva He assumed Her position. The second confidential reason He appeared was to taste the bliss of Himself which Radharani was attracted to. Finally, He wanted to know the bliss Radha experienced in Her loving affairs with Krishna. Because He assumed the mood of Radharani, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was able to taste all these mellows. By performing the pastimes Lord Caitanya appeared to be in the distress of Radharani feeling separation from Krishna but actually He tasted the supreme bliss.

Radharani is the hladini-sakti or pleasure potency of Krishna. When Krishna wants to taste loving affairs He expands Himself into Radharani. They have pastimes like a boy and girl of the material world except there is no exchange of lust or sense gratification. They exist for each other's pleasure. They experience the loving affairs in two states – union and separation. When Krishna lives in Vraja, they enjoy the rasa dance and other sports of conjugal union. When Krishna goes to the pastures for the day Radharani suffers separation from Him and when He leaves Vrndavana and lives in Mathura and Dvaraka for years Her separation is extreme. Lord Caitanya lead his followers, the six Goswamis, in experiencing separation from Krishna in what is known as viraha-bhava. It appears very miserable but it is a form of more intense union with Krishna by remembering Him. Lord Caitanya in Jagannatha Puri and the Six Goswamis in Vrindavana experienced this mood of Radharani's separation from Krishna and it's considered to be the topmost experience of love of God. On another level, they were never without Krishna because He was always present before them in the intense remembrance which was as good as union with Him.

H.H. Jayadvaita Swami: An impossible sequence (my mistake)

In a recent exchange of letters online, I wrote that as a result of the well-known “Rascal Editors” conversation, Radhavallabha Dasa, the BBT production manager, sent a sample of my second-canto editing to Srila Prabhupada, who replied, on September 7, 1976, “Concerning the editing of Jayadvaita Prabhu, whatever he does is approved by me. I have confidence in him.”

My godbrother Yasodanandana Prabhu has pointed out that the sequence here makes no sense, since the “Rascal Editors” conversation took place almost a year later, on June 22, 1977.

He is entirely right. Obviously, there’s no way a letter written in September 76 could have been a reply to a conversation held in June 77. My mistake.

The conversation led, rather, to an exchange of letters between Ramesvara Swami and Tamal Krishna Goswami. Though clearly not on the same level as a letter from Srila Prabhupada, these do have historical interest. I’ll gather and post them when I can.

Hari Sauri das, Mayapura, IN: Radhastami in Dubai 2010

I am here in Dubai on my first ever visit. I came in yesterday morning September 14, on the tail of HH Jayapataka Swami’s Janmastami visit.

I would like to wish everyone a very auspicious Radhastami festival. May Srimati Radharani’s merciful glance benedict us all with the desire for full surrender to Her Lord Gopinatha. May She grant us entry into His eternal presence and pastimes.

Here are the first Deities I ever saw, and still my favorite-Sri Sri Radha Gopinath from Sydney. I first saw Them in January 1972, a little under a year after They were installed by Srila Prabhupada himself.

This picture was taken by Rama dasa in 1977.

Here’s a couple of photos of Srimati Radharani’s lotus feet:

And here’s one of my all time favorite paintings of Radha and Krsna:

Here in Dubai everyone works during the day and the main program is tonight. They had about 3,000 devotees attend their recent Janmastami and Rathayatra festival.

Australian News: Hare Krishna Valley broccoli, a new altar and more

[Recently] at Hare Krishna Valley we engaged in the celebration of Lord Krishna's birthday, which was held at the Hare Krishna Temple in Melbourne. We all travelled to the festival in order to experience 2 days of ecstatic devotional service in honour of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna.

We also celebrated the appearance day of the founder of the Hare Krishna Movement, Srila Prabhupada. This was a deeply inspiring event, which left all of the devotees feeling purified. After the festival, Gandiva and myself drove to Upwey to pick up the Deities new altar.

We spent the weekend purchasing lights and curtains to adorn the altar. This new altar is truly beautiful, being hand crafted from himalayan cedar, and it has a very powerful presence about it. We are feeling that the presence of this new altar is the beginning of a new era at Hare Krishna Valley, as an enthusiastic momentum is beginning to build with all those who are involved with the project.

The first of our new broccoli have been picked and brought to Melbourne for the pleasure of the Deities. This is just the beginning of the broccoli harvest, and there are thousands to come, so anyone who feels inspired to come and pick some broccolis, please contact me.

I remain yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada.

Keshava Dasa.

Maddy Jean-claude Durr, New Govardhana, AU: Radharani, Queen of Vrndavana (Radhastami Offering)

Dear Radharani,All obeisances to You!  All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who spread Your fame around the world.

Your glories are the most confidential and the highest.  You are the favourite of all Krsna's Gopis and You are the greatest devotee.  You care for us all like our mother, making sure we spiritually grow to become obedient devotees of Krsna.

When I was only four years old, I was taught a song to praise You.  We were all learning it for Your divine appearance day but I was too young to realize the specific purpose so I simply learned it to my best ability, hoping that I would know it forever on.  Some time after the special day of Your appearance, HH Ramai Swami came to New Gokula (Australia).  I do not remember the event so clearly but I grabbed some kartalas and spontaneously marched up to this sacred sadhu, saying "we have to sing for the Maharaja."  Although I was the shiest of the lot and although I was totally embarrassed, I sung Your song, to please You and Your devotee.  It was a very joyous memory, although it is very vague; it is one of the only times I remember doing something spontaneous in Your service.

The simple song goes:"Radharani, queen of Vrndavana, You are Krsna's consort. You are beautiful, so sweet and pure, Radharani we love You."

Thank You for Your causeless mercy.

Your ever wishful servant, Madhavendra Puri Dasa.

Dandavats.com: Sri Radhastami

By Giriraj Swami

A godbrother of mine had a nice thought. Just imagine Krsna's situation. There He is in the spiritual sky, Goloka Vrndavana, surrounded by wish-fulfilling cows and trees and gems, being served by unlimited numbers of beautiful, pure, loving devotees. And off somewhere in a cloud is a bunch of angry, morose, belligerent souls, each determined that "I'm not going to serve Him."
