T.V. series on Vaishnavism

T.V. series on Vaishnavism

A Televison series on Vaishnavism is nearing completion

By Bhargava das (ACBS 1971)

This is a project that Srila Prabhupada approved of and contributed ideas to. It is a privately owned and funded cultural series called Faces of God showing the Indian people practicing Vaishnavism. There are twelve half hour episodes, two hours on Vishnu, one on Rama, three on Krishna and included is a short segment on Shiva, Ganesh and Devi. It is a journey to the holy places, festivals and miraculous happenings connected to these forms.

The shooting and editing are finished. Music is still needed, possibly a new narrator, sound sweetening and formatting for cable, satellite and broadcast. Estimated costs about Ten thousand dollars. More important to the success of the project is the need for corporate sponsors as a series this long on this subject needs to be subsidized in order to get a carrier like Discovery or National Geographic to supply suficient time slots for broadcasting it.

This is an especially great opportunity for successful Indian corporate owners and executives to give something spiritual and valuable from their ancient wisdom culture to a world that needs it. On the academic side GarudaPrabhu has consented to help with the project. Cheena Jeer one of the main achariyas from the SriSampradaya has endorsed the project along with the prestigious Hindu America Foundation. Although it is not a direct ISKCON project a number of prominent devotees have financially contributed to the project knowing its great value and that it was something Srila Prabhupad wanted produced. To name a few Gopal Krishna Swami, Bhakti Charu Swami. Radhanath Swami, Gopal BhattaPrabhu, Druta Karma prabhu, Muralivadana prabhu, NistrigunyaPrabhu, Drupadi dasi, Kalpalatika dasi and others.

The additional funding is still needed and if any one out there can contribute it would be a great oppertunity for service to a non political devotional project that all the different Vaishnava groups could benifit from. As mentioned I also am looking for contrabutions of soft tabla and mellow Sitar music that can be used behind the narration, Separate flute tracks and any thing instrumental for background music (mellow on the drums). For those that do not know me, I was an ISKCON Press BBT photographer from 1970 till 1980 many of my photos have appeared in Back to Godhead, Most of the Holy Place photographs that are in the Chaitanya Charitamrita where taken by me.

I also documented SrilaPrabhupad during his travels through Europe, Africa, the U. S. and India. Most recently over seventy of the photographs used in the India book written by Satyaraj and published by the BBT were taken by me.

Devotees from ISKCON of Phoenix were invited to a Mayor and Council meeting of Town of Gilbert in Arizona. The occasion was the town being proclaimed a Golden Rule city by the Mayor John W Lewis, who was a Chief Guest at Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations earlier this year at Hare Krishna temple.

Priest Braj Govind das sang NrSimh Prayers and played mradang, accompanied by RadhaMadhavaHari das who played cymbals. Mayor and council members, audience and other staff members of the town loved it and assured us to be invited to future meetings.

Eldred Spain, President, Arizona Interfaith Movement (AIFM) accompanied by his wife received the Proclamation from the Mayor declaring Town of Gilbert as a Golden Rule city. When ISKCON of Phoenix was a victim of graffiti twice during a fortnight in 2002, Eldred Spain and other members of AIFM lead by Rev Dr Paul Eppinger, Executive Director, visited Sri Sri Radha MadhavaHari Dham to express support and donated Lakshmi to meet expenses related to removal of graffiti.

It is worth mentioning that Town had organized an event named “Gilbert Faith Group Summit” on Nov 5 attended by me. Mayor, Council Member Jenn Daniels, Town Manager George Petit and several other speakers were offered blessed garlands from Sri Sri Radha MadhavaHari Dham, which they wore gladly though out the meeting. All chanted Maha Mantra,” Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare! Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare” with both hands rose, when requested by me during the Prayer offereing before taking meals.

Krishna Consciousness at funeral: Ken Jeffers, a preacher of Baha’i faith carried his journey to upper world. A blessed garland from Sri Sri RadhaMadhavaHari Dham was offered to him and placed at the coffin before his final journey. His wife Donna greeted me with Hare Krishna, as she and her husband had visited ‘Dham twice before and were offered blessed garlands and prasadam. Story of Ajamil was narrated by me to three grandchildren of Ken who listened it attentively and all three uttered the name “Narayan”

Larri Ganchos Peru, Carlos, and Indian Prison Preaching

Candrasekhara das (Director of ISKCON Prison Ministry): There is a prison in Peru in the high desert called Larri Ganchos which was built to accommodate 3,000 men. It now houses over 10,000. There are only a few guards.

Bhakti-lata Dasi: Hare Krsna! Below is an excerpt of a letter from an inmate in Oregon. You can see that there are really no obstacles to Krsna consciousness, even in prison!

Tejnath Paudel: For many centuries, Varanasi has been the center of the advaitavada, but now the acintya-bheda-abheda system is getting recognition there. After concluding his post-graduation as a gold-medalist in 2006, Bhakta Demian - a Brazilian devotee- pursued a doctorate program, having as the main subject Lord Caitanya’s acintya-bheda-abheda-tattva philosophy according to the commentary ‘Govinda-bhasya’ written by Baladeva Vidyabhusana. In this research work, Demian substantiated the authenticity and relevance of the gaudiya school of Vedanta, and elaborated on the distinguished philosophical conclusions presented by Baladeva. He defended his thesis on the 11th of this month before a committee of scholars headed by Dr. R.C. Panda, the principal of the Sanskrit Faculty at Banaras Hindu University. During a one hour presentation and debate in spoken Sanskrit, he answered many questions, and at the end was highly congratulated by all. They particularly appreciated the nature of the topic and its depth, admitting that Lord Caitanya’s system occupies an eminent place in the history of philosophy and religion. The presentation was recorded and can be watched in his blog:
