H.G. Sankarshan das Adhikari, USA: Thursday 16 September 2010--Living in Krishna in London--and--More Arguments Against Meat EatingOur brief stop in London on the way to Bulgaria was ecstatic, a sublime opportunity to once again share the inner secrets of the amazing transcendental science of Krishna consciousness. I explained to the packed hall of eager listeners how even though a devotee may externally be living in London, the real fact is that is living in Krishna. In our everyday... Bharatavarsa.net: Book distribution seminar: Srila Prabhupada's Mercy Is for ALLAs we looked down the list of all the libraries in Pretoria South Africa, one stood out: the Winterveld library. This was the only library that had no phone number. Not knowing how to contact Winterveld, we called the head office of the Community Libraries of Pretoria and asked if they had a phone number or a physical address. But they said they had no contact information for this library and they'd never communicated with them! That was quite strange. To top it off, all Google searches for Winterveld library in Pretoria also proved fruitless. This left us a little disappointed. How would we get Srila Prabhupada's books to this library? Sadly, we reconciled ourselves to the likelihood that maybe we wouldn't be the ones to introduce Srila Prabhupada's books to Winterveld library. Maybe in the future devotees would be able to find the library and give them books. So, resigning ourselves to helplessness, we left Winterveld off our list. A while later we were delivering Srila Prabhupada's books to the few libraries in Soshanguve, the northernmost part of the city. Somehow, by the Lord's arrangement we had an extra set of books with us from the previous delivery. After reaching the last library on our route, we handed over Srila Prabhupada's books and the librarian thanked us kindly. She asked, "Have you given books to the Winterveld library?" We were thrilled to hear her utter the name of this elusive library! We explained our struggle to contact this library and said we would love to give books to the Winterveld library. In fact, we told her, we happened to have an extra set with us. The librarian immediately volunteered to take us to the Winterveld library, almost half an hour's drive further north. Winterveld turned out to be a rundown suburb far from the city. The library had recently been built to aid the community but was struggling financially. The Winterveld librarian was really surprised to see the set of brand-new books we donated to her library. She also explained why they have no telephone number. "It's the crime," she said. "Criminals often break into the library and steal whatever they can get their hands on: petty things like stationery or a telephone handset. That's why we have no telephone or other electronic communication with the world. Last time they broke in, they saw nothing of value so they stole the flushing mechanism of the toilet!" "Wow," I exclaimed, "at least they didn't steal the books!" The library did have a few serious people, including schoolchildren, reading its limited selection of books. With Srila Prabhupada's books now occupying a prominent place on the bookshelves of the library at Winterveld, surely devotees will be made there in the very near future. Srila Prabhupada's mercy is truly available for ALL. From Bhajan Kutir #71 H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: 723:25 A.M. Namamrita by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada If Krishna sees that one is chanting Hare Krishna sincerely, He helps internally and externally: We should try to avoid the ten offences in chanting the holy name but anyone who chants Hare Krishna sincerely is purified ceto darpana marjanam bhava maha davagni dirvapanam [CC Antya 20-12] (Siksastaka 1). This is the easiest process by which the mirror of the mind can be cleansed. If Krishna sees that someone is sincerely chanting Hare Krishna, He will help. He is within everyone and He can understand whether one is sincere or not. Krishna helps the sincere devotee internally and externally. Internally He helps as Paramatma by giving intelligence from within dadami buddhi yogam tam. Externally he helps as His representative, the spiritual master.( Teachings of Lord Kapila the son of Devahuti.) This excerpt declares that Krishna helps the sincere chanter. It is several times mentioned that the chanting must be sincere in order to get Krishna's help. Krishna is reciprocal to the chanting of Hare Krishna mantra. He wants us to advance and come closer to Him. And when we chant He reaches out to us. It is sometimes said that if we go one step forward, Krishna will go ten steps forward toward us. He is very concerned for the living entities and wants them to come home back to Godhead. In Kali-yuga He has made it as easy as possible through the harinama process. He gives us intelligence from within how to approach Him when we chant. And He sends us the spiritual master to give us all guidance. We certainly need help. We cannot go it alone. Even though the mantra is given Krishna has to help us to bring us toward Him through chanting. The key is sincerity. I slept alright and woke a little bit after one o'clock. My chanting was routine but a little distracted by the wandering mind. I kept bringing it back to attention but it would fly off again and it was disquieting. But I chanted my full quota or sixteen rounds before 3:30 so that is a solace. One is sorry that one doesn't chant with more sincerity and get more help from Krishna as stated in this morning's Namamrita quote. The chanting can be improved and then Krishna is waiting to bring you to higher stages but it requires more effort on your part. A complacent or distracted chanting will not be as effective as fervent prayerful japa. Krishna wants to help. H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Prabhupada SmaranamOne Hundred Prabhupada Poems # 29Prabhupada, I told it to my Father, I spent time reading Father, I'm sleepy and the flies are H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Poem from Under Dark Stars1. H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: Radhastami in Viraha BhavanFree writeWe're trying to get Rama-raya here early enough so he can participate in Radhastami ceremony. Damodara is also coming from Boston bringing many prasadam preparations. Rama-raya is bereft over the disappearance of his leader and friend Aindra Prabhu but is determined to carry on with the twenty-four hour kirtana in Vrindavana. We'll be lucky if we get him before he returns to India. He sings excellently with harmonium and is very well versed in Radha-Krishna pastimes. If he doesn't make it here on time I may have to speak myself although I cannot do it as well as he can. I would speak on what I wrote in Free Write yesterday about the "aradhita" verse of Srimad Bhagavatam and the gopis seeing the footprints. In speaking about Radharani I like to speak of Lord Caitanya as the path to Radha-Krishna pastimes. You can't go directly to Radha-Krishna but you have to go through the sankirtana movement. The chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra gradually brings one to raganuga sadhana bhakti. I'd like to speak of Lord Caitanya as Krishna coming in the mood and golden complexion of Radharani. In the Gambhira in the presence of His intimate associated He expressed Radharani's feelings of separation from Krishna. Krishna das Kaviraja gives the confidential reasons why Lord Caitanya appeared and they are all in connection with Radha. First of all, He wanted to take the position of Radharani. As Krishna in His original form, He was not able to take the position of Radha. But as Caitanya-deva He assumed Her position. The second confidential reason He appeared was to taste the bliss of Himself which Radharani was attracted to. Finally, He wanted to know the bliss Radha experienced in Her loving affairs with Krishna. Because He assumed the mood of Radharani, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was able to taste all these mellows. By performing the pastimes Lord Caitanya appeared to be in the distress of Radharani feeling separation from Krishna but actually He tasted the supreme bliss. Radharani is the hladini-sakti or pleasure potency of Krishna. When Krishna wants to taste loving affairs He expands Himself into Radharani. They have pastimes like a boy and girl of the material world except there is no exchange of lust or sense gratification. They exist for each other's pleasure. They experience the loving affairs in two states – union and separation. When Krishna lives in Vraja, they enjoy the rasa dance and other sports of conjugal union. When Krishna goes to the pastures for the day Radharani suffers separation from Him and when He leaves Vrndavana and lives in Mathura and Dvaraka for years Her separation is extreme. Lord Caitanya lead his followers, the six Goswamis, in experiencing separation from Krishna in what is known as viraha-bhava. It appears very miserable but it is a form of more intense union with Krishna by remembering Him. Lord Caitanya in Jagannatha Puri and the Six Goswamis in Vrindavana experienced this mood of Radharani's separation from Krishna and it's considered to be the topmost experience of love of God. On another level, they were never without Krishna because He was always present before them in the intense remembrance which was as good as union with Him. H.H. Jayadvaita Swami: An impossible sequence (my mistake)In a recent exchange of letters online, I wrote that as a result of the well-known “Rascal Editors” conversation, Radhavallabha Dasa, the BBT production manager, sent a sample of my second-canto editing to Srila Prabhupada, who replied, on September 7, 1976, “Concerning the editing of Jayadvaita Prabhu, whatever he does is approved by me. I have confidence in him.” My godbrother Yasodanandana Prabhu has pointed out that the sequence here makes no sense, since the “Rascal Editors” conversation took place almost a year later, on June 22, 1977. He is entirely right. Obviously, there’s no way a letter written in September 76 could have been a reply to a conversation held in June 77. My mistake. The conversation led, rather, to an exchange of letters between Ramesvara Swami and Tamal Krishna Goswami. Though clearly not on the same level as a letter from Srila Prabhupada, these do have historical interest. I’ll gather and post them when I can. Srila Prabhupada's Letters1967 September 15: "I understand the draft board is disturbing you. It is also disturbing me, but we have no other recourse than Krishna. Do your best to serve Krishna and he will give you required intelligence to cope with disturbing situations." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1968 September 15: "I can understand the regulative principles of Deity worship are taking much of your time and you can minimize according to your convenience. There is no harm. But I am so glad to learn that this engagement makes one developing the Brahminical qualities. I thank you very much for appreciating this secret of worshiping the Lord." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1969 September 15: "While you are in school, simply speak to the students and teachers, distribute our books and arrange for kirtana where many students can hear the sound of Hare Krishna. This is the prescribed formula for propagating Krishna Consciousness." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1971 September 15: "Our Krishna Consciousness movement is the representative of Krishna. But we are very much poor in strength. Our only strength is chanting Hare Krishna and that will give us strength to enlighten people in Krishna consciousness and cut down bad government." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1972 September 15: "On the whole, they should not be given any power unless they are my initiated disciples, but try to keep them as consultants. Our process is slow but sure. Our big centers started with only a handful of men and because they were determined to expand by recruiting the local men, that has been their success." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1972 September 15: "He should donate Kesighat Temple to us and we shall renovate and make very gorgeous for the foreign tourists. And everyone will appreciate the contribution of the King of Bharatapur and perpetuate his memory. So approach him yourself immediately and ask him to donate." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1974 September 15: "Dead metal utensils when they come together they make so much noise, so what to speak of living utensils. Europeans and Americans are very agitative, but since we have all taken a pledge, we have to change this habit for the peaceful service of Krishna." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1975 September 15: "Krishna gives perfect social order, perfect economic development, perfect philosophy, perfect religion, and perfection of life. Therefore Krishna consciousness movement is not a sentimental fanaticism. It is the perfect culture of the whole human society." Hari Sauri das, Mayapura, IN: Radhastami in Dubai 2010I am here in Dubai on my first ever visit. I came in yesterday morning September 14, on the tail of HH Jayapataka Swami’s Janmastami visit. I would like to wish everyone a very auspicious Radhastami festival. May Srimati Radharani’s merciful glance benedict us all with the desire for full surrender to Her Lord Gopinatha. May She grant us entry into His eternal presence and pastimes. Here are the first Deities I ever saw, and still my favorite-Sri Sri Radha Gopinath from Sydney. I first saw Them in January 1972, a little under a year after They were installed by Srila Prabhupada himself. This picture was taken by Rama dasa in 1977. Here’s a couple of photos of Srimati Radharani’s lotus feet: And here’s one of my all time favorite paintings of Radha and Krsna: Here in Dubai everyone works during the day and the main program is tonight. They had about 3,000 devotees attend their recent Janmastami and Rathayatra festival. Mayapur Online: Happy RadhastamiHappy Radhastami. Waves of Radharani’s mercy overflowing in Mayapur today. Hearing of pastimes of Srimati Radharani, darshan in new outfit, drama and dance on appearance of Radharani, ecstatic abhisheka, kirtan, Maha feast and in the evening-lamp offering and Maha Harinam- in this way the whole day is packed with celebrations. We all travelled to the festival in order to experience 2 days of ecstatic devotional service in honour of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna. We also celebrated the appearance day of the founder of the Hare Krishna Movement, Srila Prabhupada. This was a deeply inspiring event, which left all of the devotees feeling purified. After the festival, Gandiva and myself drove to Upwey to pick up the Deities new altar. We spent the weekend purchasing lights and curtains to adorn the altar. This new altar is truly beautiful, being hand crafted from himalayan cedar, and it has a very powerful presence about it. We are feeling that the presence of this new altar is the beginning of a new era at Hare Krishna Valley, as an enthusiastic momentum is beginning to build with all those who are involved with the project. The first of our new broccoli have been picked and brought to Melbourne for the pleasure of the Deities. This is just the beginning of the broccoli harvest, and there are thousands to come, so anyone who feels inspired to come and pick some broccolis, please contact me. All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who spread Your fame around the world.
Your glories are the most confidential and the highest. You are the favourite of all Krsna's Gopis and You are the greatest devotee. You care for us all like our mother, making sure we spiritually grow to become obedient devotees of Krsna. When I was only four years old, I was taught a song to praise You. We were all learning it for Your divine appearance day but I was too young to realize the specific purpose so I simply learned it to my best ability, hoping that I would know it forever on. Some time after the special day of Your appearance, HH Ramai Swami came to New Gokula (Australia). I do not remember the event so clearly but I grabbed some kartalas and spontaneously marched up to this sacred sadhu, saying "we have to sing for the Maharaja." Although I was the shiest of the lot and although I was totally embarrassed, I sung Your song, to please You and Your devotee. It was a very joyous memory, although it is very vague; it is one of the only times I remember doing something spontaneous in Your service.
The simple song goes:"Radharani, queen of Vrndavana, You are Krsna's consort. You are beautiful, so sweet and pure, Radharani we love You."
Thank You for Your causeless mercy.
Your ever wishful servant, Madhavendra Puri Dasa.

It’s the day celebrating the Birthday of Sri Radha, the girl you always see pictured with Krishna. Over five millenia ago in a place now called Northern India on a half moon night in the month of Bhadra, King Vrishabhanu came to the Jamuna River to bathe and found himself engulfed in a golden aura that was emanating from a lotus, which had a baby girl standing on its whorl. When the king returned to the palace with the baby, Queen Kirtida was delighted. But, she was also shocked to find that the girl was blind. Lord Krishna’s mother Yashoda heard that her best friend Kirtida had a baby, so she came to visit along with her husband and her son. Krishna crawled up to the cradle and pulled Himself up and looked in. At that moment, Srimati Radharani’s eyes fluttered and opened wide and blossomed like lotuses. It seems that she did not want to see anything of this world, only the form of Sri Krishna. Everyone was delighted. Srimati Radharani is the mother of the universe, the spiritual mother of all souls. The concept of mother is the most sacred symbol – that of purity, selflessness, caring, sharing, nurturing, and love.
