2010 Disappearance Day Festival for Srila Gour Govinda Swami

Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja's disappearance day falls this year on the 3rd of February.

Below is the schedule of events at ISKCON Mayapur

Remembrances Venue: Upstairs at the Panca-tattva extension classroom

MORNING CEREMONIES

* 9:00 AM - Kirtan procession from Radha Madhava’s temple to Maharaja’s puspa-samadhi

* 9:15 to 9:30 AM - Guru-puja and puspanjali at the puspa-samadhi

* 9:30 AM - Kirtan procession from puspa-samadhi to Radha Madhava’s temple, circumambulating Srila Prabhupada’s Samadhi on the way.

SESSION I

* 10:00 to 11:00 AM - Remembrances and glorifications of Maharaja at the Panca-tattva extension

* 11:00 to 11:30 AM - Special lecture by a senior devotee (to be announced.)

* 11:30 to 11:50 AM - Remembrances and glorifications

SESSION II

* 4:30 to 5:30 PM - Special lecture by a senior devotee (to be announced.)

* 5:30 to 8:00 PM - Remembrances and glorifications

Anyone in Mayapur who would like to cook something for Maharaja can do so. Please bring the offerings to his samadhi by 11:45 AM on the 3rd.

This photo was sent to our archives by H.H. BV Bhagavata Maharaja. Srila Prabhupada's disciple who spent some years staying in Bhubaneswar with Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja.

Bhagavata Maharaja commented on this picture:

The photos were taken during July or August of 1979 while I was doing Chatura Masa Vrata, hence the beard.

On the far left is my God brother Shasti Vara then there is one Orrisan boy from Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja's village I do not remember his name. Then Vaishnava Das who took Harinam from Srila Prabhupada, diksa from H.H. Jayapataka Maharaja, and Sannyasa from Srila Vaibhava Puri Maharaja. His name is now Dandi Maharaja and he is a ksetra sannyasi and always remains in Puri. Then there is Braja Bandhu who was asked to leave because he supposedly stole something. I do not believe that. I talked to him in 1996 when I was there. He took initiation from Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja. Then there is Caitanya Singha and his wife Racitambara with their daughter who is about 6 in this picture. They are my god brother and godsister. Then behind them is Moksha Lakshmi who was Jaya Gourangas wife at the time. the two personalities seated in the middle left to right on the floor in front are:

Vanamali who took initiation from H.H. Jayapataka Maharaja and who has a vegetarian restaurant in Bhubaneshwara. Then the next boy in yellow chadar I do not remember. Then the next boy was a local boy who would spend the whole day at the Matha but his parents didi not like it and they restrained him and sent him for education. Then as you can probably tell there is Abhaya Manik Srila Gour Govinda Maharaja's son. The last boy is I think a Bengali from Mayapura.
