Japa Group: Depending On The LordToday this came into my mind before I began chanting Japa....we express our devotion to Krsna through our chanting of the Holy names, and also through our dependence on the Lord. Krsna wants to see this from us, that we depend on Him for everything in our lives - to have this vision requires purification and that purification comes from good quality chanting. When we can realise that everything comes by the mercy of the Lord and that we just have to ask for help through prayer...including the Maha mantra which is a prayer for service. Srila Prabhupada's Letters1957 May 7: "The whole Hindu Muslim conflict, the whole struggle of Gandhi and Jinnah and the whole question of Kashmir problem have arisen from this petty difference of bones only." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1957 May 7: "In this age of quarrel and fight everything has to be done by combined force to achieve ready success. We have to combine the different forces of men, money, intelligence and field work to make the spiritual movement a grand success." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1966 May 7: Srila Prabhupada's Letters1975 May 7: "I went to attend the meeting and how I appreciated the grand place of Kuruksetra. I wish to organize this holy spot for spreading Krishna Consciousness all over the world." Srila Prabhupada's Letters1975 May 7: "Regarding your physical malady, you should do whatever is required to treat it properly. Whatever is most practical. Akrura das, Gita Coaching: GITA COACHING VIDEOBharatavarsa.net: Bhakti Vikasa Swami: attentiveness of a devoteeI remembered an example my spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, had once used to describe the attentiveness of a devotee. Samurai warriors, he described, were trained by their martial arts guru to sleep so lightly that the slightest sound would wake them and put them on guard. At night the guru would silently creep up and bring a bamboo switch swiftly down across the disciple's legs. It would get to the point where the disciple could hear the swish of his guru's stick, awaken, and roll instantly out of range before the switch hit the ground. Japa Group: Please Join The Japa GroupPlease share your realisations with other devotees from around the world...simply send me an introduction email and I will be happy to make you a member: H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: '429' from The Yellow Submarine4:00 A.M.I went to bed with a headache but subdued it with medicine. I woke up at 2:00 A.M. with another headache. I took medicine, but the headache didn't go away. Nevertheless I chanted my rounds rapidly. In two hours I've chanted sixteen rounds. I endured the pain and chanted in my mind. I was able to pay attention but was hampered by the headache. This chronic condition will not go away, but I don't let it stop my japa. I could not however go deep into contemplation but stayed on the surface and repeated the words all in order. I'm glad I was able to finish the quota so early. I have two medical appointments today at the hospital, x-rays at 11:30 and a follow-up at 3:00 P.M. At least I know my chanting has been done. I doubt that I'll do extra as I'll be afraid of getting more headaches. I have the satisfaction of finishing my quota, but my pain still remains. I may have to take more medicine. At least I have fulfilled my vow to Prabhupada. Chanting with pain H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: 'Little Drops of Nectar: The General' from The Yellow SubmarinePrabhupada SmaranamHe looks like an army general with his field coat. (His saffron coat with "furry" collar and cuffs was made by Govinda Dasi, suitable for a sannyasi). He gestures forward with a strong thrust of his left arm and hand. He is making an exciting, important point with his jabbing mudra. He is cutting down the Mayavada doctrine that the absolute is formless and there is no God. His men behind him listen intently and want to follow his lead. It is not so easy to follow him. It is not just done by wearing the same clothes and getting up early in the morning, although these things help. You have to act ideally and not fall down. You have to preach to whomever you meet and tell them about Krishna. You have to study Prabhupada's books and repeat his teachings with conviction. Prabhupada almost looks like he is striking someone with his hand, striking them with a karate punch. He said he knew the art in logical debate to strike like in karate. He said he would look for the person's weak point and chop. His spiritual master was also famous for his "chopping technique". It is something necessary when meeting opposition, not to do it physically, but with logic. This powerful military side of Prabhupada enthused many disciples who had this nature. Some had the nature but lacked the purity behind it and didn't have the same results as Prabhupada. The military attitude was especially effective in distributing books. History has shown that purity is the force, not just chopping. Bharatavarsa.net: Book distribution seminar: Where there is will, there is...Abhinandan Prabhu, a 67-year young devotee is a veteran book distributor in Sri Sri Radha Gopinath Mandir, Chowpatty. He has undergone 15 operations including hernia, prostate, ear and abdominal wall, and suffers from diabetes, high BP, partial deafness and vertigo. Yet his spirits are indomitable. He recalls his experience of 2009 December Marathon: The whole of 2009 I was terribly sick. I had severe abdominal pain due to an umbilical hernia. The Doctors decided not to operate and strictly advised me not lift anything heavy. "You have done enough," my counselor told me, "now rest." I said, "OK." At this stage, I am not even allowed to offer dandwats. The Marathon arrived. I have been doing marathon for past 20 years. I could not sit idle. I requested the temple authorities to give me 500 Bhagavad-gitas. I went to a builder and he took 100 books. I went to central bank and met an officer and requested her to place bulk order. She said, "What will I do with them?" I said, "You can distribute in old age homes, hospitals etc." She gave me money for 108 books. I gave the books to a devotee to distribute to the poor. Then another builder took 100 books. A Doctor took 60 books. Many others took books. I could not lift, yet people helped me load the books in the car and deliver them. In this way, I distributed all 500 books in spite of so many difficulties. I have no qualification, nor do I know any philosophy. It's only by the mercy of Sri Sri Radha Gopinath, Srila Prabhupada, my spiritual master and the Vaisnavas that I could distribute them. H.H. H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: 'Madhavendra Puri' from The Yellow SubmarineFree writeThe pujari appears to be Madhavendra Puri offering aratrika and a massive amount of prasadam to his Gopal Deity standing on Govardhana Hill. Krishna in His original form as a cowherd boy approached Madhavendra Puri in Vrndavana and gave him some milk. He then appeared in a dream to Madhavendra Puri and told him He was buried in His statue form amidst the jungle on Govardhana Hill. With the help of the villagers, Madhavendra Puri discovered the Deity and held a great abhiseka ceremony, and the people brought many foodstuffs to offer to Gopala. Krishna states in the third chapter of Bhagavad-gita that if one eats food without first offering it to God in sacrifice, he is eating sin. In the ninth chapter, verse 26, Krishna states, "If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water, I will accept it." The atheists do not believe in the worship of the Deity, which they consider an idol, or in the process of offering Him food. The sastras state "arcye vishnau sila dhir, gurusu…"—those who don't accept the arca or Deity of the Lord are residents of hell. First of all we have to accept that the Absolute Truth has a humanlike form, in His Bhagavan aspect. When a devotee makes a carving (in metal or wood or jewel or the mind) of the form of God, the Lord enters that form and transforms the matter to spirit. Worshiping the arca-vigraha is as good as worshiping Krishna directly. The example is given that the postal service places many authorized postal boxes around the city, and if you place your letter in any authorized mailbox it is as good as delivering it to the main post office. The Deity accepts the offered food just by hearing the prayers, and He eats the food but also leaves it to be distributed and taken by the worshipers. Whoever eats maha-prasadam makes great spiritual benefit. When Madhavendra Puri offered the bhoga to Gopala, he actually saw Him accept it and eat it. Gopala and Madhavendra Puri had many transcendental pastimes together. ISKCON News.com: Cooking Up Spiritual Life in America's Heartland

Sivarama Swami: Skype conference with Russian disciplesSkype conference with Russian disciplesMay 7th, 2010 Engaging lust in Krsna consciousness, how much prasadam is prasadam and is machine made bread pure? and more (Russian/English) H.H. Sivarama Swami: Skype conference with Russian disciples ISKCON Brisbane, AU: Nrsimha Caturdasi 2010H.H. Sivarama Swami: Problem of evilSRS: This is the question on “why there is evil?” Hare Krishna Sivarama Swami, pamho. I watched the debate on the dandavats website…for a prof of philosophy he was rather weak. Perhaps he thought his points would be more obvious because he didn’t bother trying to elaborate them. I think the main issue that was not honed in on is the same one as always: how is it conceptually possible for an omnipotent & omnibenevolent being to exist if evil exists. This question is actually not adequately answered by the notion of reincarnation and karma. Why create a system in which free beings will suffer at all?? Obviously there must be a limitation on the potency of a being that can only have love with evil. It could have created free will beings who had free love but always chose to do things that didn’t lead to suffering/evil. Or is the idea to create evil beings that somehow eventually become good? why create the evil at all? Some say that the only way to have freely willed loving relationship with the being is to include evil but that violates the concept of omnipotence itself which demands that whether or not we can understand how the being would achieve perfect goodness while also having free will it must be able to do so or else it is limited in potency. Or is a proper understanding of Krishna Consciousness that God is actually either not all powerful or not all good? Why would free beings living in the ecstacy of Krishnaloka ever choose to leave??? Do they wish they could be like Krishna? Doesn’t that mean that they’ll never actually be truly happy? Because then they fall and suffer and only come back to Krishna after getting fed up with being too impotent to be like Krishna? So they’d be happier if they actually could just be like Krishna??? Narayana Maharaj says that this exists because the jivas use their free will while they are originating in marginal energies and not in heaven…that’s still unsatisfactory since it still means that an omnipotent and omnibenevolent being allowed for suffering even though it didn’t need to happen. As mentioned above: if it needs to happen then He’s not all powerful. If He wants it to happen then He’s not all good. Or are we supposed to suddenly redefine goodness to include evil?…that’s a ridiculous double think. I chant and consider myself a vaishnav but frankly this question is absolutely not satisfactorily answered. Is there some advanced scripture/treatise that addresses it? I doubt it otherwise it’d be common knowledge in philosophy and religion departments. If you are realized enough that you can logically answer this question then please do since almost everyone on the planet is more likely to follow the process if there is NOT a logical PROBLEM with the belief system from the getgo. Ultimately, the professor, though he didn’t do a good job of making his point remained unrebutted in his proposition that the problem of evil logically requires that we assume there’s no God by the definition he gave. The proposition that creation is sophisticated and therefore perfect and therefore the creator is good is not logic. Sophistication doesn’t equal moral goodness nor does it discount the problem of evil. I write this in the hopes that vaishnavs will someday be able to answer this question. I hope you’re not offended by this email but the goal is to let you know how most rational people will perceive it and hopefully to spur a real answer one day to the problem of evil other than “the mystery card” as the philosopher said. Thus far, though more rationally appealing than most religions, vaishnavism remains a “religion” in that it is based on “faith” that is in contradiction to rationality. Contrary to the title of the book, it is not science and the process as a scientific experiment does not prove it’s reality (more people have tried it and left than had arational experiences and stayed let alone experiences that include a way of explaining it rationally). Hare Krishna. S.B. It was a debate that happened in 2004. My main question is whether or not there is logical solution within vaishnav theology to the “problem of evil”. This post is to remind me of the order I have to start things tomorrow to have them work. Yoga of Ecology, Bhakta Chris, USA: Building A Green Economy But is it possible to make drastic cuts in greenhouse-gas emissions without destroying our economy? Like the debate over climate change itself, the debate over climate economics looks very different from the inside than it often does in popular media. The casual reader might have the impression that there are real doubts about whether emissions can be reduced without inflicting severe damage on the economy. In fact, once you filter out the noise generated by special-interest groups, you discover that there is widespread agreement among environmental economists that a market-based program to deal with the threat of climate change — one that limits carbon emissions by putting a price on them — can achieve large results at modest, though not trivial, cost. There is, however, much less agreement on how fast we should move, whether major conservation efforts should start almost immediately or be gradually increased over the course of many decades. In what follows, I will offer a brief survey of the economics of climate change or, more precisely, the economics of lessening climate change. I'll try to lay out the areas of broad agreement as well as those that remain in major dispute. First, though, a primer in the basic economics of environmental protection. H.H.
