ISKCON Toronto, Canada: Mark your calendars for the upcoming weekend!Summer is a busy time at the Hare Krishna temple with a lot of fun, festivity and activity! The coming weekend is just the beginning of a fun-filled summer at the Hare Krishna temple! On Saturday, June 5th, senior monk, Devamrita Swami will be giving the morning Srimad Bhagavatam class at 7:30am at the Hare Krishna Temple. Initiated by Srila Prabhupada in January 1974, since the past 35 years he has traveled extensively on every continent of the world sharing his realizations of Krishna Consciousness. He is very well reputed in the academic circles for his insightful presentations on contemporary topics like Spiritual Economics, Sustainability, Yoga of Money etc. However, those of us who have heard him lead kirtan, know that his kirtans can have devotees dancing in pure joy! He is currently based in New Zealand but is a frequent visitor to Toronto and we are very happy to have him give a very special class! Sunday, June 6th, will be a very special Sunday Feast. Firstly, it is the Youth Sunday! At this very special Sunday Feast, the youth will be cooking and serving prasadam, taking part in aratis etc. If you are interested in helping out with Youth Sunday, please contact our local youth group Pandava Sena for more information. Another main reason by June 6th Sunday Feast will be very special is because we will be enthralled by amazing class and kirtans led by Bada Hari das. Based in Gainesville, Florida, he is a celebrated Kirtan singer who travels internationally presenting seminars on Vaishnava songs and devotional practices. In his previous visits to Toronto, he had the entire temple room dancing in pure joy and had us all looking forward to his next visit! A lot happening this weekend, so make sure that you will be at the Hare Krishna temple this weekend to get a chance to meet these two amazing monks and listen from them! ISKCON Toronto, Canada: No Sunday Feast Recording This Week :(Due to technical difficulties with the Mic, we were unable to record our live broadcast of the Sunday Feast and so we are unable to post a recording this week. We apologize for any inconvenience as many devotees were hoping to catch a recording of the amazing 8pm arati again.
We hope to resolve the problem and to resume with live broadcasts and videos with the upcoming Sunday Feasts! ISKCON Toronto, Canada: Deity Darshan: Sunday, May 30, 2010H.H. It also includes using tulasi beads; clear pronunciation; concentrating on the meaning of the mantra; reviewing and avoiding the ten offenses, and repentance for transgressions. H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: '453' from The Yellow Submarine3:55 A.M.I woke up at 11:47 P.M. last night with a headache. I subdued it and went back to sleep and woke with the alarm clock at 2:30 A.M. I had a new headache and took medicine for it, but it didn’t go down. After fifteen minutes I took more medicine, and gradually the pain went down. But my chanting report is mostly about the feeling of pain and not the concentration on the Hare Krishna mantra. I want to share with my readers experience and even instruction about japa, but it’s like I’m trapped in a car after a car accident and my consciousness is occupied with pain. I have only a small portion of attention that I can spare for contemplation. The one thing I can teach is that the chanting goes on like a heartbeat despite the physical inconvenience. I continue chanting rapidly and hearing the mantras quietly in my mind. So far I’ve chanted almost nine rounds, which is not a slow pace, but it’s not been a relaxed pinpointing of my mind on prayer to Radha and Krishna. I have been chanting for my survival. It’s really not so bad in terms of pain, but it’s not good in terms of excellent japa-yajna. You can’t chant well
H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: 'In His Own World' from The Yellow SubmarinePrabhupada SmaranamSrila Prabhupada stops on his walk, and he dramatically gestures with both his hands. Svarupa Damodara, Brahmananda Swami, Srutakirti and others gather in closely and listen thoughtfully. He is not speaking something humorous that has made them smile, but they are attentive and serious. He looks like an actor on stage, with his two arms extended and his fingers held apart. He is making a dramatic point. Prabhupada wears his long, hooded coat, and the devotees are wrapped in big chadars, sweaters and scarves. But the chilly weather is of no importance. Prabhupada is in his own world, speaking his personal realizations of the Vedic truths. He does it for the benefit of his students and also because he is unselfconsciously ecstatic over the words of the acaryas in praise of Sri Krishna. The devotees are spellbound because Prabhupada is not an ordinary presence on the beach but a transcendental speaker like Sukadeva Gosvami. They know they are honored to be in his presence, and they accept it gratefully and soak it in like thirsty sponges. Unlike the dog-walkers and strollers on this California beach, they are fortunate to be close to him like magnets and hear the rare Vedic sound from the bona-fide spiritual master. Fortunately, it is being recorded and can be heard in the future by people who are not even born yet. His words, like the Srimad-Bhagavatam when it was spoken five thousand years ago, are timeless, and this little group is fortunate to be in the presence of Vyasa’s direct representative for a vivid retelling of brahma-sabda. read more from SDGonline - daily updates from The Yellow Submarine: My Bhajana Kutir journal H.H. Satsvarupa das Goswami: 'Your Map Of the World' from The Yellow SubmarineFree writeThe typical New Yorker thinks his neighborhood of the city is the center of the world. The rest of the world is seen as far away and insignificant. The Hudson River is almost as big as the Pacific Ocean. Japan, China and Russia are just dots on the horizon. What really matters is the streets and buildings with action on the west side of the city. This is, of course, an extremely subjective and erroneous map. Seen from the correct universal point of view, all the cities of the world are insignificant, and the people are tiny without influence. Out of false ego we think we are the controllers of everything. We are actually controlled by material nature, and if we see through the scriptures we will see actual reality. The Krishna conscious scriptures inform us that the living entity is one ten-thousandth the tip of a hair in size. He lives in a material covering of a body which is his material size. As for the planets and countries and cities in the material world, they are all only one-fourth of the size of the spiritual worlds. We and our lands are small in comparison to the spiritual world. The scriptures give the picture of the material world in comparison to the spiritual world and in comparison to the other planets in the material world. The earth planet is a very small planet in the material world where people suffer the threefold miseries. To think that Manhattan, or Paris, or London or Moscow or Tokyo is the center of the action is a great misconception. They are not places of eternity, bliss and knowledge, and so they are all filled with illusory activities. On The New Yorker map there is no trace of the higher material planets or the spiritual Vaikuntha planets. If we want to see a map of the total reality it would be entirely different, like the cover of Srila Prabhupada’s First Canto Srimad-Bhagavatam printed in India. The reader is encouraged to look at that cover for an accurate picture of the mapping of the spiritual and material worlds, which all emanates from the topmost planet of Goloka Vrndavana. H.H. Dear Maharaja,
PAMHO. AGTSP. I was very happy to see the slideshow, the photos were wonderful. You are looking wonderful as well, so I hope you are in good health. Honestly, I am so fortunate because I desire only to see you smile. For when you smile it is like Arjuna seeing Sri Krishna’s opulences. I have no thought of going back to Godhead, or enjoying material pleasures. How fortunate am I that I see your smile! I hope that I have this good fortune eternally. It feels like 9 months of winter has passed by here. I am cold, it is cold. Sometimes it’s sunny and warm. My bones are brittle from the dreary grey skies. So with my sincere good wishes for your Vyasa puja and good wishes also for your book, I give thanks for your service and Krishna’s mercy.
Lila, Ipswich.
