Subject: [sreecgmath] Harikatha Video Conference on Dec. 25, 2010

Dear devotees,

Dandavat Pranams.

Our Most Revered Srila Gurudev will speak Harikatha tomorrow (25 Dec. 2010) on the auspicious occasion of disappearance anniversary of Srila Prabhupad. Webcast from Kolkata at 7.30 PM on
www.sreecgmath.org.

Prahlad Das

Sree Sree Guru Gaurangau Jayatah!

After the disappearance of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, darkness descended in the Gaudiya sampradaya. Many false-lineages have cropped up and the actual teachings of Mahaprabhu were misinterpreted. Seeing the plight of the enslaved jivas, Lord Chaitanya sent His own associate, Srila Bhakti Vinode Thakur to rescue the fallen souls. Accepting Him, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur had descended. He preached the message of Sriman Mahaprabhu all over the world.

Exhibiting the pastimes of extreme humility, Srila Prabhupad in his final instructions said that he had disturbed many people being obliged to speak unadulterated truth. He emphasized on performing Haribhajan without hypocracy. He said, "All the devotees should stay united to preach the message of Rupa and Rughunath. Don't lose your spirit if you see that the majority of people cannot accept the principle of selfless service to the Supreme Lord."

Our Most Revered Paramgurudev had got an opportunity to have darsan and take diksha from such a personality. Our Most Revered Gurudev then narrated the whole incident of how our Paramgurudev, in severe eagerness to envision the Lord, left for Himalayas where He had a celestial voice indicating Him to go back to the place where he had come from. Later Our Paramgurudev went to Mayapur, took darsan of Srila Prabhupad and was strongly influenced by his devotional conclusions. In Ultadanga Road, our Paramgurudev accepted Mantra diksha from Srila Prabhupad.

Sri Guru Vaishnava Kripa Prarthi,
Prahlad Das

Revered Vaishnavas,
Dandavat Pranams.

Srila Gurudev Om Vishnupad 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj will speak Divine Harikatha on the holy occasion of Sri Saphala Ekadasi on December 31, 2010 (Friday) between 7.30 PM to 9.00 PM at Kolkata Math. This will be webcast from www.sreecgmath.org. Please tune to the right channel for English translation.

Sri Guru Vaishnavas Dasanudas,
Prahlad Das

Dec. 29, 2010
Kolkata Math

Today morning, at around 9.30 AM, while Srila Gurudev was taking His breakfast, I conveyed the heart throbbing message of Parampujyapad Srila Narayan Maharaj's departure from this world. As soon as He heard, He was shocked, "Left the body?"; His mouth wide open. He paused for a while and said, "He left the body? I was informed that his health has improved. Is it not?" I said that there was improvement after what He had heard about Srila Narayana Maharaj's serious health trouble in October but that he left the body at about 3.00 AM today. Srila Gurudev said, "Everyone has to leave one day. Anytime anything can happen. This cause, that cause is just instrumental."

He took His next spoon of breakfast and said, "He roamed a lot outside India even at his advanced age. What is good is that he left his body in India and that too in a Dham." After a while, He asked about the Samadhi – when and where. I said it will be tomorrow in Navadvip. Srila Gurudev remembered, "His gurudev used to stay there. I went many times to that place. We used to go and do kirtan at their place. Even now I go."

Srila Gurudev then remembered that He had recently written some affectionate words towards Srila Narayan Maharaj (upon the request of his disciples for the occasion of his upcoming vyaspuja celebrations). I said, "Srila Narayan Maharaj received that and he felt happy reading the contents. Reading your remark that `I have desire to meet you' Pujyapad Narayan Maharaj said that if Krishna desires it is possible (as conveyed to me by Sri Madhavpriya Prabhu)." Srila Gurudev said, "Now it is not possible."

Srila Gurudev continued taking breakfast. Some time passed and He said, "It is not that it is impossible. It happens on few occasions. Narottam Thakur met Sri Rupa Goswami though the latter was not physically present that time. Sri Rupa Goswami fed milk to Narottam Thakur."

Prahlad Das

Sree Sree Guru gaurangau Jayatah!

Another name of Ekadasi is Harivasar. The main duty as part of observance of Ekadasi is to satisfy Hari and His devotees completely with all the senses. Upavas means to stay in the vicinity of Sri Hari. Giving up all sins, and with all good qualities, one who remains near Krishna, totally relinquishing all enjoyments, has actually observed the vow of Ekadasi.

Is getting mundane temporary benefits pure devotion? If we are not following the instructions of Srila Prabhupad and Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur then whatever we performed is not pure devotion and everything will be destroyed. It is totally anti-devotional to perform the activities that are not approved by our Gurudev and Guruvarga.

Even though it is most unfortunate to take birth in sinful Kaliyuga, it is our best fortune to take birth in this special Kaliyuga that comes in the 28th chaturyuga of the 7th Manvantara because of getting the opportunity to obtain the Highest Mellow of Transcendental Divine Love.

This human birth is attained after many births. This is very rare. Although it is temporary, it can bestow highest eternal benefit. Therefore, an intelligent person endeavors to obtain the highest eternal welfare immediately, without delaying even a moments time, before death occurs because sense enjoyment is available in all other species as well.

--- His Divine Grace Srila Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Goswami Maharaj (originally spoken in Bengali. Translated to English by Prahlad Das)

All Glory to Sree Guru and Gauranga!

Revered Vaishnavas,
Dandavat Pranams.

On January 6, 2011 Srila Gurudev along with sevak team had been to Chakdah for celebrating the disappearance day of Sri Jagadish pandit. Srila Gurudev spoke Harikatha on 7th of January but due to poor internet connectivity, we did not announce the conference. However, the lecture has been uploaded on our website and report of the trip is also posted (www.sreecgmath.org).

Srila Gurudev will speak Harikatha on Ekadasi, January 16, 2010. The Annual festival of Kolkata Math starts from 19th of January and ends on 23rd January. Srila Gurudev is expected to speak on more than one days during that time.

New Year Greetings

As the world passes out of the dark shadow cast by Darwinism for the past 150 years, and the paradigm of Big Bang cosmology is found to be full of inscrutable black holes, imploding in a complete collapse from the foreboding overshadowing of dark matter and dark energy, the steady undimmed voice of divine wisdom that has perennially guided countless generations and writhing civilizations continues to be the faithful beacon that unwaveringly leads the inquiring soul to the shore of truth.

May Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Lord of Love Incarnate, open the door to our hearts and dance therein eternally with the chanting of His Holy Names.

In special remembrance of our illustrious Grand Master, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Thakur, we offer this conclusive prayer encapsulating the real essence of his life teachings, composed by his superlative disciple and our divine master Srila Bhakti Rakshaka Sridhara Deva Goswami Maharaja.

nikhila-bhuvana-maya-chinnavicchinna-karttri
vibudha-bahula-mrgya-mukti-mohanta-dhattri
sithilita-vidhi-ragaradhya-radhesa-dhani
vilasatu hrdi nityam bhaktisiddhanta-vani

With his first step, he cut to pieces the whole plane of exploitation of unlimited sense gratification, and with his second, he crushed the boasting research of scholars of ever competing  schools of thought. With his third, he softened the grandeur and formality of worship with a touch of Divine Love (raga marga). Taking us beyond Vaikuntha, he has introduced us to the highest worship of Sri Radha and Sri Govinda. May these divine teachings of Bhaktisiddhanta play forever within the core of our hearts.

Hare Krishna Juan

Sri Sri Radha-NilaMadhava would like to welcome you to a full day's immersion in the sweetness of the Holy Name. This opportunity is available to us everyday, but how many of us are in a situation to be able to accept such a divine invitation. This day, Sunday, January 16, IS the situation for which we have been waiting.

Dedicated chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra in an assembly of sincere Vaishnava's is one of life's greatest pleasures. If you have experienced a Japa Retreat, you know what I am talking about. If you have not experienced a japa retreat, then your are going to have to come and find out for yourself. They don't call it re-TREAT for nothing.

The various activities will be laid upon the foundation of mauna-vrata, a vow of silence, except for the beautiful chanting of the Lord's Holy Names - like the constant humming of honey bees.

A simple breakfast of oatmeal, fruit and milk will be available starting at 6:30AM and can be taken when needed.
7:00 AM Arotika
7:20 AM Arcana-siddhi prabhu's inspiring words
8:00 AM *Mauna-vrata and Japa begins
12:00 Noon Lunch (Rice, Dahl, Salad, Bread, Tea) accompanied by readings from Sacinandana Swami's japa meditation books
1:00 PM Japa continues
5:00 PM *Mauna-vrata ends with Sharing
6:00 PM til whenever - Kirtan led by Mitrasena prabhu

If you are unable to attend the whole day, you are welcome to come when you are able. So as not to disturb others, we ask that EVERYONE enter the house through the side back door into the sunroom. There you will leave your shoes and coats and quietly join in the current activities.

*Mauna-vrata vow of silence. Does that mean "No talking". Yup. But it means more than that. It means no communicating with another except for Krishna (and your guru). That means no winking, head signals, hand signals, secret morse code tapping, writing messages, smoke signals, etc. During mauna vrata, we all agree to suspend, so to speak, our normal social etiquettes of acknowledging each other with welcoming words and gestures, even smiles. It is the unique time when we focus within rather than going out in one of our normal unlimited ways. So please do not feel offended if devotees do not welcome you with the usual hugs and kisses, dandavats or even a glance. Know that you are still loved.

An advantageous factor for parents: no small children will be able to attend this event. Leave anyone at home (with a caretaker, of course) who is not 100% capable of taking care of themselves. One day. No dependents. Just your dependence on Krishna.

After we chose this date for the JapaFest, we found out that New Goloka is having THEIR JapaFest the day before on Saturday, January 15. Sooo, if you want to take FULL advantage of Krishna's mercy this weekend, you can attend the Japa Day in Hillsborough on Saturday and continue on into Sunday's JapaFest in Winston Salem. For details of New Goloka's program please
EMAIL or phone 919-732-6492.

Wear comfortable clothing. And if you will be needing anything special during the day - ie. your favorite cushion from home, special prasadam, please bring it with you or let me know your needs ahead of time so we can be sure you will be comfortable and free to focus on the holy name.

Please RSVP if you are planning on coming - just so I have an idea as to how much prasadam to prepare. You can
EMAIL me or phone 336-499-4494. Any questions or comments, please contact me as well. Directions to our Home.

Wow, I am so excited. Radha and Krishna are only a name away!

Nam Kirtan: The Essence of The Bhagavatam

Sri Caitanya sat attentively at the feet of His divine master, Sri Isvara Puri, who had just promised to disclose to Him the verse that is the essence of the Bhagavatam. Emphatically, but devotionally, Isvara Puri recited:

“One who chants the names of one's beloved Lord without material attachment or inhibition awakens deep attachment to his Lord. As his hearts melts with ecstatic love, he laughs very loudly or cries or shouts. Sometimes he sings and dances like a madman oblivious to public opinion.”

No serious student of the Bhagavatam questions that nam kirtan is stressed in the text as the best means for realizing the Absolute Reality. How does that, however, make it the fundamental ingredient of everything spoken, the topic that weaves together the myriad subjects found within the text that are geared to establishing Krishna as the full manifestation of Godhead?

To decipher the actual theme of any book the first place to look is the history of its composition, specifically the intention of the author in writing the text. That account is told in the Bhagavatam itself:

Sri Vyasa, the empowered editor of the eternal Vedas, had just failed in his attempt to present the Vedas in a relevant way for this present age of discord. Seeing his despondency, Sri Narada, his spiritual master, confirmed what Sri Vyasa had already suspected, that he had not sufficiently glorified Krishna. Shaken by his teacher's mild rebuke, Sri Vyasa entered a deep meditation to attain greater realization. The result was the Bhagavatam, a text systematically and directly glorifying Krishna in 18,000 beautiful verses meant to be read and sung in various melodies. The Bhagavatam is therefore kirtan itself.
