There I saw Bidhan Candra and Krishna Katha prabhus lying bleeding on the floor. Damodara Masa Maha Harinam 2009 [ISKCON Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia]
By Rajaram Naidu & Hemalann Nambiyar
To usher in auspiciousness, the Harinam Ministry of Sri Jagannatha Mandir, ISKCON Kuala Lumpur held a Maha Harinam during the temple’s Sunday Feast Festival on 11th October 2009. It was an opportune moment, being the most auspicious Damodara Masa as well as it being only a few days away from Deepavali Celebrations.
Logistical problems and the late departure from SJMKL resulted in the Maha Harinam starting at midday; a delay of about an hour and a half.
Sarvatirtha Krishna Prabhu and his team of devotees at Taman Sri Sentosa were on hand to welcome the congregation who had travelled in private cars and in two coaches. The welcoming party were excellent hosts as were their devotion for detail in decorating the deity alters at the local Taman Sentosa ISKCON Centre, The Sri Gauranga Prema Tirtha. They were kind hosts to all the devotees and made every effort to attend to the needs of the arriving congregation with care and affection.
Prior to the start of the Maha Harinam, the Kirtan during the offering of flowers and obeisances to HDG Swami Srila Prabupada were melodious, harmonious and food for the soul.
The mid day heat did not deter the assembled devotees who were ready and ever willing to share and recite the holy name of Lord Sri Krishna in the homes and to reach out to the hearts and minds of all the residents who were willing listeners to their messages.
The congregation was divided around a team of 27 leaders. Every team was well provided with Damodara Deepavali altar calendars, information leaflets, cards and ghee lamps. Some team leaders went a step further by bringing along beautifully decorated figurines of Mother Yashoda & Baby Krsna and provided prasadam for distribution as well. The teams spread out into the neighbourhood of Taman Sentosa, Klang. Some teams began on foot while others were ferried in the two busses to pre-designated sites further and deeper into the neighbourhood.
For the devotees, it was an opportunity to acquaint with the local residents as well as simultaneously spread the mercy of Lord Damodara. The ringing of kartals to the harmonious accompaniment of the mrdangas for the chanting of the Maha Harinam, made for a joyous sight to behold … the Vaishnava devotees “taking over” of this neighbourhood in Klang.
The Harinam teams spread out into the township, visiting each row of homes. Devotees were duly assigned and a target of 20 homes was set for each team for the 2 hour Harinam. It was indeed a sight to savour. Every home in every street had devotees at their doorsteps, introducing Their Lordships, and narrating the leela of Lord Damodara being bound by Mother Yasoda’s tender love and motherly affection. As in many past instances, it continues to amaze individuals reached during the Harinam that there is in fact much more to the month of Deepavali than the demise of King Nargasuran, symbolizing the triumph of “Good over Evil”.
An invitation flyer was also included in the Maha Harinam, promoting the local Taman Sentosa ISKCON Centre’s weekly programs. The Sri Gauranga Prema Tirtha, Sentosa Centre hosted devotees to a sumptuous lunch prasad. The Prasad menu was further supplemented with a birthday cake, kindly shared in celebration of Bhakta Ramanuja’s second birthday.
When the details were finally tallied, a total of 400 homes had been graced with the presence of Lord Sri Damodara. In addition, a total of 1,500 individuals had the opportunity to offer ghee lamps to Their Lordships and receive a polite narration of the glories of the month Damodara.
HG Sarvatirtha Krishna prabhu led the kirtan after the culmination of the Maha Harinam and upon the devotees offering of the ghee lamps. It was both ecstatic and joyful. A heartfelt thanks and compliments to Sarvatirta Prabhu and his team for leaving no stones unturned in making the inaugural Maha Harinam in Taman Sentosa a truly memorable one.
This was indeed a successful event as it gave much inspiration to both the congregational devotees of Sri Gauranga Prema Tirtha, Klang and Sri Jagannatha Mandir, KL.
We continue to pray for the mercy of all Vaishnavas and the blessings of Their Lordships such that we may be able to reach out to more individuals during this month of Damodara; in our quest to fulfil HDG A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabupada’s mission.
All Glories to HDG Swami Srila Prabupada.

Rajaram Naidu & Hemalann Nambiyar,
Sri Jagannatha Mandir,

George Harrison Festival at Prabhupada Village NC November 7
George Harrison Festival at Prabhupada Village NC November 7By Mitrasena dasa
Of all the festivals I’ve organized, this one is easily drawing the most attention.
Within fifteen minutes of sending announcements to local newspapers, I received a phone call from an editor asking if their paper could sponsor the event.
I’m getting phone calls regularly from musicians of all ages asking for a chance to be involved.
When I told a neighbor about our plan to have a sing along of “My Sweet Lord “, accompanied by one hundred guitars, she said,”I’m getting chills just thinking about it, I won’t miss this for anything”.
As they discuss their appreciation for George, these people invariably bring up the topic of Krishna.
George’s involvement with Krishna Consciousness is well known and well documented.
People that are curious about George are also curious about us.
When they hear that Gurudas’ friendship with George and that he will be speaking at the event, they are completely sold.
This event will draw people who are very ripe for what we have to offer. There is no need to pull green fruits off of branches. These people will need only a gentle tug and you’ll find them to be very sweet, thanks to George, for warming their hearts all these years.
My biggest organizational anxiety is to insure we have enough devotees on hand to receive this crowd.
A large tent and stage will be set up outside, thanks to Madhuha and his Festival of India. This will be the main music stage.
Meanwhile, inside the temple, classes and workshops will be held on japa, kirtan,Bhagavad Gita and Vegetarian Cooking.
There will be a couple Arotiks scheduled. These have proven to be very ecstatic at our festivals with many first timers dancing and singing enthusiastically.
Aside from the temple functions there will be a variety of activities to keep the attendees busy and to give them their money’s worth.
-A Lavish Vegetarian Banquet
-Sitar Concert and Workshop
-Plenty of Music from local performers, such as a rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps “ played on a saw. A ukulele solo of “Something “ and “Here Comes The Sun”
-An Introduction to My Friend George Harrison, a talk given by Guru das with photos he had taken of George.
-Raffle of several items donated by sponsors such as Carolina Zip Lines, Dan River Company , (a kayaking outfit on the nearby Dan River), H2O Tie Dyes and Kindred Spirits, a devotee owned gift shop in Winston who are kindly donating over $800 in BBT books through their organization “Benediction Moon “ (If you want to support book distribution , look at their website) www.BenedictionMoon.com
It’s a sign of the times when local businesses feel comfortable advertising themselves at a Hare Krishna event
Stokes County has taken an interest in our community. They see us as an asset and are willing to give us support in any way within their means. The County maintains a Face Book Account to advertise local events and attractions. Our event is proudly displayed there at their request. I’m getting calls from people who have noticed us there. They are inquiring about advance tickets and how they might be able to help..
We are expecting a crowd of from 200 to 2000. It very much depends on the weather, which can be very beautiful in November. We are selling advance tickets at a reduced price to insure a crowd no matter what weather.
See our website for more details. NCGeorgefest.com
If you’d like to be involved please contact me at mitradasa@gmail.com
The next day will feature Guru das telling stories of his travels with Srila Prabhupada for the Sunday lecture.
Gurudas first met Srila Prabhupada in 1967 in San Francisco, and immediately joined the temple, helping with the first Ratha Yatra that summer.
He also traveled across India with Srila Prabhupada in 1971 as part of the World Sankirtan Party.
He was also involved in the construction of the Krishna Balaram Temple in Vrindavan.
There are many stories to tell, and Guru das is happy to have an audience to share them with. This is an opportunity to hear from someone who was involved in the development of our ISKCON society from the very beginning.

Finding Ourselves - Who We Are and What We Are Meant to Do
By Giriraj Swami
We all want to know who we really are, what role we are meant to play in God’s plan, what contribution we are meant to make to God’s work. And, by God’s grace, we may get a sense of our calling, what we are meant to do in His service.
