Ecstatic Prabhupada, de Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami Sdgonline
Some people never met him but they know much about him and they are very dedicated to him. I heard and saw a female disciple on video yesterday recalling him. She said one day she was alone in the temple room serving at the receptionist desk (in the Brooklyn Henry Street temple). She said the temple was completely quiet but she could clearly hear Prabhupada from his quarters playing the harmonium and singing a bhajana. She said after a while he stopped singing and began sobbing. Then after a while he started up again but several times he broke down and commenced sobbing. She said she began crying herself and was very impressed to hear Prabhupada crying “in love of Krishna”. With only one person as a witness to something like that you become a little doubtful, but I suppose she had no reason to tell a lie.
I have seen Prabhupada break down and become unable to speak during a lecture. His voice raised very high and cracked during a lecture in Los Angeles when he was thanking the devotees for helping him serve his Guru Maharaja. In Atlanta, after visiting two Gaura-Nitai temples in Caraccas and Miami, he very much appreciated the Gaura-Nitai worship in Atlanta. He told the devotees that worship of Krishna was complete just by worshipping merciful Gaura-Nitai and then his voice cracked and he was unable to continue speaking. He also became silent in the middle of a lecture in Mayapura and everyone was quiet until Hamsadhuta Maharaja began chanting the Hare Krishna mantra and that broke up the mood and the lecture. In Los Angeles he was speaking how pure devotees serve Krishna without any reward. He said “Just like the gopis…” and then he fell silent for a long time absorbed in ecstasy. When a devotee asked Prabhupada if they had done the right thing in Mayapura to interrupt his long silence he innocently said, “I don’t do that very often.”

Srila Prabhupada is an ocean of mercy. He could have sat in exctacy the whole day and just thought of Krsna but he saved us by compassionately preaching with such determination and attention to detail. I am eternally indebted to him. Please pray for me to engage in trying to repay my debt dear vaishnavas.
