Glorifications by Srila BV Narayan Maharaja

Update from Govardhan, November 10th

Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodehariji.

Devotees are relieved that Srila Gurueva is still here with us after the Disappearance Day of his beloved Godbrothers. However, he did not rest well last night, and he is quite withdrawn today, not interacting much with the devotees . We have had several darshans. Sometimes he has been lying down and resting, and occasionally he has been propped up on his bed. He has been almost completely immobile in all the darshans. The mood amongst the devois more subdued today, and there is not much more to add.

Today is the Disappearance Day of my Guru Maharaja Sri Srimad A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja. We had very nice heart-pushpanjali offerings from his disciples, and puja and kirtan, and then a great feast, and there will be more glorifications tonight.

SRILA GURUDEVAS SURPRISE!

 November 11, 2010 at 10:47am

There are about 1200 devotees here in Govardhan and more coming everyday. The temple room is packed during class with devotees pushed out on to the balcony, they are practically hanging off the walls! The devotees are getting a darshan of Srila Gurudeva everyday on the TV screen morning and evening. However what they are all hankering for is a personal darshan, a view of him in his spiritualized form. Well today they got their chance!

It appears that the Chinese Massage and the Physio-therapy is giving Srila Gurudeva a boost because he got into his wheel chair today and came to the door to give the devotees an up close and personal darshan. It was spiritual mayhem as the word spread that Srila Gurudeva was there at the door in the wheelchair. Devotees were excitedly rushing to the door to see Srila Gurudeva. But amazingly no one rushed or pushed so hard that anyone was hurt that I know of. It was so sweet for so many of the devotees who came from distant parts of the world to see Srila Gurudeva for the first time. It was a great and wonderful event.

Some one asked me online before how we had understood the position and activity of the Tumor as I expressed it in my last report. So here is the information I based it on for those who are wondering.

As far as whether the Tumor has spread or not I based my statement on the assessment of Srila Gurudevas Disciple who is an Oncologist, which is a cancer specialist. She has been dealing with cancer patients for over 20 years. She said when the cancer spreads to other organs it presents symptoms which you can see clearly. She said it is her opinion that since Srila Gurudeva is not presenting these symptoms that the cancer has not spread. As far as the softness of the Tumor the Ayurvedic Doctors pulse reading and Chinese doctors pulse reading and the physical examination of Brajesh and others all come up with the same conclusion that the tumor is soft.  Based on these things I made the statement in the previous post that the Tumor is soft and it has not spread to other par ts of the body.

There is a rip roaring Kirtan going on in the temple room after the Arotika which has everyone dancing and shouting for joy. Hundreds of devotees are all joined in the kirtan from all over the world. You can also do Kirtan where you are and feel the ecstasy of Guru and Krishnas presence always. Srila Gurudeva is working his magic on us and making us dance and sing and chant with abandon. JAI SRILA GURUDEVA KI JAYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update from Govardhan, November 11th

Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodehariji.

Srila Gurudeva rested better last night than the night before, although there was some difficulty during the early evening. For some reason, there was no darshan on the large screen this morning. Srila Gurudeva had some difficulty with digestion during the day.

Actually the impression we got from the darshans on the large screen (Srila Gurudeva lying or sitting motionless) has not been representative of Srila Gurudeva’s activity. Practically every day he has a light oil massage, and sits in the sun in his chair. Today he was also walking a little.

This evening, there was tremendous excitement. Srila Gurudeva was in his wheel chair at the door of his room. For many devotees, it was the first time they had had his physical darshan.

A new doctor has started giving Srila Gurudeva treatment, a Chinese doctor who does acupressure. This doctor gives very light energetic taps, and Srila Gurudeva has responded positively. There are also some plans to give some new foods to increase nourishment.

On the whole it seems that Srila Gurudeva had decided to come to Govardhan to leave, but now his decision may not be so final, seeing that his disciples so much want him to stay. We can pray to Giriraja Govardhan for Srila Gurudeva’s health and strength, and pray to Srila Gurudeva to stay with us.

SRILA GURUDEVA'S PRESENT CONDITION AND HEALTH CARE TEAM
by BV Bhagavat Maharaja on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 4:05am

There are some devotees who are not close to the daily health care team who have misunderstood Srila Gurudevas state of consciousness and physical well being. I want to clarify this for everyone so his state of consciousness can be clearly understood.

Srila Gurudeva is making steady progress. He is conscious and alert. He rests a lot which he should do. However when he is up, which is quite often during the day, he is alert and lucid. In fact even when he rests the pure devotee is completely conscious, not in the mode of ignorance like we conditioned souls. When a pure devotee rests he is in a highly spiritual conscious state called samadhi. Srila Gurudeva has brief conversations with devotees during the day and gives valuable instructions. I have talked to 2 devotees,  outside of the immediate health care team, who have had conversations with him. Srila Gurudeva goes out on the veranda almost daily in his wheel chair and sits in the Sun and then has a light massage. During this time he is fully cognizant and very clear. Yesterday he asked to be taken to 2 different doors when he was moving in the wheel chair . At each door he recognized the devotees who were there and briefly spoke clearly to them. There are times when he does not want to be bothered and he makes it very clear what he wants. However he mostly accepts the service we are giving him in terms of medical treatment. So he is clearly the decision maker in the present health care treatment he is being given.

I have written the other day about Srila Gurudevas health support team. I want to elaborate on that now a little. There is an Oncologist, a cancer specialist, who comes in regularly to check the condition, development, and stages of Srila Gurudevas cancer. There is another MD Doctor Prakash who checks his vital signs on a regular basis like Blood Pressure, oxygen levels in the blood, blood sugars, and a number of things that demonstrate that he is stable and not in any crisis condition. There is an Ayurvedic Doctor who has made a powerful herbal formula from fresh herbs he has handpicked himself that addresses seven different things that need care in Srila Gurudevas body. Srila Gurudeva takes this daily. The Ayurvedic Doctor also checks the pulses of Srila Gurudeva keeping an eye on what is happening inside. The Chinese Doctor is also checking pulses and has performed the second treatment on Srila Gurudeva today. The Chinese Doctor say s that Srila Gurudeva is responding very well to the qi gong/massage treatment and is making very good progress.

Besides this we have a physio-therapist whose expertise is in caring for elderly cancer patients. This person is  exercising him daily to tone his muscles and keep his limbs and joints flexible. Which is in addition to his light massage almost everyday on the Veranda. There is a chart for his nutrition and there is a chart for his scheduled medication and activities  everyday. There is an expert Homeopathic Doctor here who is in contact with Srila Gurudeva daily and is always consulting with one of the leading homeopaths of India who is Srila Gurudevas disciple in Mathura. There is also nutritionists who are helping oversee the diet and the quality and quantity of calories that are being given.

Are there little glitches here and there? Yes certainly. However nothing that is alarming at this present stage of the health care that is being given. In general Srila Gurudeva is well cared for and is progressively improving to a point where a more aggressive approach in dealing with the cancer will be possible. All of this is going on by his will and he is making us all dance as he likes. I feel very optimistic at this point that Srila Gurudeva will perform recovery pastimes very soon and be with us some more time. I realize that is only my personal opinion. But I feel that the most critical days are behind us and that Srila Gurudeva is giving signs that he wants to stay and guide us for some time longer. I would venture to say that this is the opinion of most of the devotees who are surrounding Srila Gurudeva.

Srila Gurudeva is happy and comfortable here in Govardhan. Not just because he has an oxygen controlled room with air filters that make the air clean and fresh but because he is situated between Giriraja and Radha Kund the 2 highest spiritual places in the world. He is embraced by the transcendental atmosphere of Govardhan and he is immersed in the special spiritual pastimes that occur here. For Srila Gurudeva he does not see smoke, dust, noise, and pollution. Srila Gurudeva sees the Cintamani Dham the transcendental touchstone abode of spiritual gems where Krishna the gopas and the cows roam and Krishna and the gopis sport in the most confidential pastimes. This is what Srila Gurudeva is seeing and this is why he is happy and making progress here. It appears that just as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu came to Vraja to immerse himself in Radha Bhava under the Imlitala tree so Srila Gurudeva has come here to immerse himself in the transcendent al ecstasy of  Sri Sri Radha Vinode Biharis transcendental pastimes at Sri Giriraja Govardhan.

News from Govardhan, November 13th

Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodehariji.

Yesterday, Srila Gurudeva’s condition was stable after a restful night. Devotees commented that in the morning, he interacted with devotees more than the previous day. However, during the day, he had difficulty digesting his prasad. In the evening I was invited to attend the daily meeting of doctors and devotees involved in Srila Gurudeva’s treatment. It was a full house – about fifteen devotees. The topic was simply digestion and nutrition: how to give Srila Gurudeva the nutrition he needs, and how to help him digest prasad better. It was very detailed. Srila Gurudeva is being given very considered and expert treatment.& nbsp;

In the evening, when devotees returned from parikrama, there was a very quick darshan on the large screen.

Last night, Srila Gurudeva rested, but he had some difficulty. There was a brief darshan on the large screen. Pujyapada Madhava Maharaja came in while Srila Gurudeva was resting during the morning program. He said that we should have a positive mood, and pray to Giriraja Govardhan for Srila Gurudeva’s health, because Giriraja fulfills the desires of his devotees. This morning Srila Gurudeva had about 40 minutes of full physiotherapy, and then rested.

It is becoming more and more clear that everything depends on Srila Gurudeva’s desire. It is not so clear at the moment to most devotees here what Srila Gurudeva’s desire is.

News from Govardhan, November 14th Part Two

Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodehariji.

Wow! What’s going on?

While the parikrama party was at Sanket, Ramacandra Prabhu reported that Srila Gurudeva had come out right out of his room on to the balcony in his wheelchair, and devotees had darshan. Srila Gurudeva was holding up both hands and blessing them. Ramacandra Prabhu explained that today is Gopastami, which is a very “hilarious” day in Vraja. Krishna and all His gopi and gopa associates are so happy today, celebrating very joyfully. When someone is very happy, they will be ready to give any boons to those who ask. Ramacandra Prabhu then said that at each pastime place we should pray for Srila Gurudeva’s strength and health. BV Tirtha Maharaja then led a pra yer for Gurudeva. We also prayed for Srila Gurudeva at other places.

When we arrived back in the evening, we heard that Srila Gurudeva gave another darshan in his wheelchair in the evening. Within the context of what has been going on, today was a Good Day. Srila Gurudeva had rested well. He had three or four spoons of kicheree, which is the first time he has eaten anything solid for several days. He also took about the same amount of soup today as on the last few days, which is still down on what he needs. He walked with some help, took an oil massage, and sat in the sun. He also talked with devotees, sometimes very lovingly and sometimes very sharply.

At the doctors’ meeting this evening (which I was unable to attend), Madhuvrata Prabhu said that Srila Gurudeva has abruptly started being much more aware and taking much more interest of what is going on around him. This has meant that the assistants in the room actually have much more work, because Srila Gurudeva is requesting them to change the light, and telling them that he is cold, and so on, which he was not doing until very recently.

One devotee to whom Srila Gurudeva spoke lovingly this morning, made a suggestion. Although Srila Gurudeva previously made a definite decision about leaving, perhaps being surrounded by his loving devotees, he is changing that decision, or preparing to change it.

Today, after hearing Ramacandra Prabhu’s katha, I was praying for Srila Gurudeva’s health and strength, and praying for wisdom and opportunities to serve him and Srila Prabhupada in this world and in the spiritual world.

[Prayers to Gaurakisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja by Srila Bhakti Raksaka Sridhara Maharaja]

Gaurakisora dasa babaji would gather dry foodstuffs from the householders of the holy dhama by begging, and offer them in his hand to the Lord. To cook, Gaurakisora dasa babaji would often collect dry wood from the pathways and wash discarded pots he found along the roadside near the Ganges. To meet his practical necessities such as clothing himself, he would go to the shore of the Ganges River and collect and wash the discarded cloth that had been used to cover the corpses in the burning grounds. In this way he always remained independent of others by using rejected items that served no purpose for anyone.
Srila Bhaktivinoda often related the behavior of Srila Gaurakisora dasa babaji as an example of "nirapeksa," or total indifference to worldly existence.

SRILA GURUDEVA TAKES US ON A ROLLER COASTER RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!

by BV Bhagavat Maharaja on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 10:25pm
There is so much to say I do not know where to begin. I am a historian by nature so I guess I will give it to you chronologically.  I wrote a positive report on Friday November 12th. It was accurate but was missing something. I had told you in my earliest posts how things can go up and down during the natural healing of cancer. How one day you can be riding high and the next flat on your face. There were so many good things to report on Friday and we were trying to stop some alarmist false rumors about Srila Gurudeva not getting adequate care so I left out one thing. It turns out that by Saturday night that one thing became the one BIG THING!

On Thursday and Friday Srila Gurudeva had decreased his food consumption. He was not taking anything through the mouth and he was returning most of what went down the tube. He was down to about 300 calories at most. When he repeated this on Saturday we were beside ourselves. What could we do he was not digesting the offerings we were giving him. Then on Saturday evening when Sripad Tirtha Maharaja gave him the first printing of the 10th Canto of the Bhagavatam in Hindi Srila Gurudeva’s response caused our hearts to sink. After Srila Gurudeva signed the book he gave the pen and the book to Sripad Tirtha Maharaja and told him that the responsibility to finish translating and editing the Bhagavatam was now in his hands. He explained to him how translation and writing work of transcendental literature was being done by Krishna and the Guruvarga through him. Srila Gurudeva told Sripada Tirtha Maharaja that when Srila Gurudeva tran slated the Jaiva Dharma into Hindi Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Maharaja had edited it. Srila Bhakti Prajnana Keshava Maharaja said in the introduction to Jaiva Dharma that he had been given some credit for editing but that it was really the work of Sripad Narayan Maharaja. Srila Gurudeva said that even though his Guru Maharaja said that he never felt like that in his heart. He believed always that it was his Guru Maharaja who was doing this translating work through him and he was only the instrument. Srila Gurudeva told Sripad Tirtha Maharaja you should always think like this within your heart that the Guruvarga is doing this work through me.

When we all heard this pastime that Srila Gurudeva had given up writing the Bhagavatam and was decreasing his food intake and was unable to digest our offerings we felt helpless. So many times Srila Gurudeva said if I cannot write then I do not want to stay. So many of us thought, to be quite honest, that he had made a decision to leave. The mood was gloomy and we were all heartbroken. I was desperate as were so many others. We Need Our Srila Gurudeva what will we do without him. I did not write a report that night. How could I? I had omitted the fact that he was not eating and digesting the night before thinking it was a couple of down days and he would get over it. But now I felt it was actually headed in a completely different direction. But then some things started to turn around almost inexplicably.
Saturday Night at about 9pm Sripada Madhava Maharaja had decided to give Srila Gurudeva antibiotics because he was complaining of some discomfort in the abdomen area which is usually a sign of his chronic reoccurring urinary tract infection. This was given at 9pm on Saturday Night. Around 2am on Sunday Morning he was obviously feeling some relief from that problem. However what was even more obvious according to a report we received from Madhuvrata Prabhu at the health care meeting last night was that he was more externally conscious. He was no longer deeply in his meditative sleep but was now more externally concerned about his environment. He then started making a number of requests for adjustments to the comfort of his body and the temperature and atmosphere. Cool water for his feet, then more blankets, no light complete darkness, etc etc. Madhuvrata Prabhu narrated how when Srila Gurudeva is in a more externally conscious state he has many requirements and makes them known, and It is our pleasure to serve His needs always. Brajanath Prabhu mentioned in the meeting that it has been Srila Gurudevas history that when we solve Srila Gurudevas urinary tract problems his Spiritualized body functions better and he responds better. What happened the rest of Sunday was simply amazing. I will now list some of the things that have happened yesterday that show Srila Gurudeva is clearly back on the upswing but not in chronological order.

So on Sunday Morning the Chinese Qi Gong Massage therapist worked on Srila Gurudeva for an hour. He acted like he was resting quietly on his bed with his eyes closed while the massage was going on even though he was significantly more externally conscious. How merciful is our Srila Gurudeva. The massage therapist reported that his energy and muscle strength is definitely improving more and more. That he had demonstrated better control of his neck muscles and was able to hold his arm up for sometime on his own without assistance. These were all good signs. This was later confirmed again when Srila Gurudeva’s physiotherapist asked him after their session if he could do some exercise. The therapist asked him to hold out his arms and to open and close his fists as an exercise. Srila Gurudeva held out his arms and opened and closed his fists and then when he closed them he started rotating his wrists and his arms as well. The phys io therapist’s eyes opened wide. Smiling the therapist said yes this is very good if you can do this. Our Srila Gurudeva is so merciful and sweet. First he appears to be helpless and complies with our efforts to help him and then he clearly demonstrates his transcendental prowess and exceeds our understanding and our expectations of him.
Srila Gurudeva had a sun bath and a light massage as well. Then Srila Gurudeva asked Doctor Prakash what I have to do to get better. Doctor Prakash said eat and walk. Srila Gurudeva’s request was music to our ears and his response was a soothing balm to our hearts. Srila Gurudeva began eating more today and digesting it as well. He consumed about 1.5 liters of liquid food through the tube and ate a few spoons of kichidi for lunch and a few spoons of dalia (cracked wheat) for dinner. He appeared to digest everything well. So the eating has begun but what is even more amazing is the activity.

He came outside on the veranda in his wheel chair this morning and the few devotees that stayed back from the parikrama were amazed and jubilant. Later when many of us had returned from the Parikrama we were ecstatic to see Srila Gurudeva back out on the veranda. I had just returned when he was brought to the door and the devotees were all over the place singing Jaya Jaya Gurudeva and Gurudeva tomare Jaya Jaya Ho. Their hands were upraised and their voices jubilant and filled with excitement and happiness the spiritual energy was unbelievable. I ran from the gate all the way to the stairs pushing everyone out of the way as I approached. I really wanted to run up the stairs and touch his feet but I knew it would start a stampede so in order to avoid mayhem I restrained myself but it was hard.

After being on the veranda and smiling lovingly at all the devotees he then went inside and began walking up and down with the assistance of two devotees. So it appears by all indications that Srila Gurudeva has decided to better by his own spiritual power. Of course he is the transcendentally completely independent Mahabhagavat nitya siddha and can do as he likes. He may decide to stay today and leave tomorrow but something he told to one devotee today in private is very significant. That devotee revealed it to me in an interview. That devotee told me that Srila Gurudeva said: “I wanted to leave but all of my disciples want me to stay”. This statement and his activities yesterday seems to make it clear what his present intentions are.

All we can do is continue to pray and beg him to stay and guide us for some time more. All of his thousand’s of disciples and well wishers all over the world have been offering heartfelt prayers and Kirtans, begging our Srila Gurudeva to please not go from this world now. He has heard our prayers and it appears that he is responding. Now we must keep up the heartfelt intentions and actions. There are ups and downs in the natural healing of cancer however when you apply these things to a nitya siddha like Srila Gurudeva you get a roller coaster ride through the Himalaya’s from the heights down to the valley and back up again. Only Srila Gurudeva can do this. Only he can make us take such a ride and come out the other side better than when we started out.

I am trying my best to give you the story and the atmosphere of what is happening here with Srila Gurudeva. Sometimes I may make some mistake please forgive me for any faults in my presentations. I am begging for the mercy of Srila Gurudeva and the dust of all the Vaishnavas upon my head.

Dear devotees,

Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodehariji.

Today has been a long day on parikrama. We visited Varshana and Surya-kunda, amongst other places. That is why this update is so late.

Srila Gurudeva did not rest well last night. However, this morning he again came out onto the balcony in his wheelchair at about 8.30, after most of the devotees had left for parikrama. BV Tridandi Maharaja said it was the best he has seen him looking for weeks. The devotees were chanting Hare Krishna, and Srila Gurudeva stayed for 15 minutes or more. He waved his hands, and spoke to some devotees in a strong voice. "He was very present," said one devotee who was there. Srila Gurudeva walked four times, with some assistance. In the evening he again came out at about 5.30 pm, but for a very short time.

Tomorrow is Ekadasi and a rest day, so I will be able to get more information then. In the meantime, we can continue to pray for Srila Gurudeva's health and strength, as the devotee performing parikrama have been doing at the pastime places.

Dear devotees,
Please accept my dandavat pranams. All glories to Srila Gurudeva and Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Sri Sri Radha-Vinodebihariji.
Recent picture of Srila Gurudeva by Pandita didi
Today is Ekadasi, and Srila Gaura-Kisora Dasa Babaji Maharaja’s Disappearance Day. It is also the first day of Bhishma-pancakam. I do not have so much news today, but the general trend is good. Srila Gurudeva spoke with devotees this morning. He was very “present” with them and spoke in a strong voice. Later he became a little indisposed, and then said that he wanted to rest. Later he took part in his normal routine, but he did not sit out in the sun, because it is very cloudy today. (Yesterday we even had some rain at Varshana.) At present he is “peaceful”.
Devotees in the team around Srila Gurudeva have related conversations that clearly show that Srila Gurudeva wants to be cured, and is also concerned with practical arrangements. This mood is quite different from the mood of a few days ago. Srila Gurudeva is a transcendental personality. He is capable of making so many arrangements himself, and he has on occasion stated that he can cure himself. At the same time, it appears that he accepts the influence of Yogamaya to make arrangements and situations, to which he submits. Thus, sometimes it appears that there are two wills at work: the will of the Lord and Srila Gurudeva’s will. How these two wills interact with each other is a deep mystery to me.
We continue to pray to Giriraja Govardhan for Srila Gurudeva’s health and strength.

Srila Gurudeva’s Health Update December 1st

Dear Devotees and dear Friends,
Please accept our dandavats pranams and receive heartly blessings from Srila Gurudeva. All glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga and all glories to Sri Sri Radha Vinode Bihariji.
On 29th November we have arrived in Sri Ksetra Dham, the transcendental residence of Sri Jagannath Deva, Sri Baladeva and Srimati Subhadra.
By Their causeless mercy we continue to render little seva to assist Srila Gurudeva in this unique pastime. Here everything is favorable for Srila Gurudeva and all of us. In Jaya Shree Damodar Gaudiya Math Srila Gurudeva’s quarters are overlooking the ocean and all day long a mild breeze is entering through the balcony doors and the many windows. The sun rises at 05.30 AM and from that time till 14.00 PM its rays are directly coming into Srila Gurudeva’s living room.
Over the last two days we are already observing little improvements in Srila Gurudeva’s physical condition. Although we have heard from Sastra and Saintly persons about the transcendental position and nature of Sri Guru, still we are anxious and determined to do the best we can in order to alleviate his any physical distress and increase his overall wellbeing.
We thank the Lord above for making these arrangements and will keep you updated. Please continue your affectionate services, especially your heart felt prayers.
