[edit] History

Adipur was originally founded as a refugee camp after the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947 by the government of India. Its running was later passed onto a self-governing body called the Sindhu Resettlement Corporation (SRC). The person credited with the formation of this settlement was Bhai Pratap Dialdas, who requested from Mahatma Gandhi this land for the (mostly Sindhi) immigrants from what was at the time East Pakistan

2600 acers of land was donated by the Maharaj of Kutch, (Called Maharao of Kutch) as it was felt that the climate and culture of Kutch resembled that of Sindh.

[edit] Notable residents

Famous residents of Adipur are:

  • L.K. Advani, the founder of BJP;
  • the late Hundraj Dukhayal, who was awarded the Padma Shree and was the President of the Gandhidham Maitri Mandal;
  • Gopal V. Hingorani who was an Honorary Principal of the Gandhidham Polytechnic Institute and went on to become the Deputy Managing Director of Gammon India Ltd., one of the largest civil engineering and construction companies in India to this date.

[edit] Education

Adipur has six higher education institutions under one org. namely Tolani Collegiate Board:

  • Tolani Commerce College
  • Tolani College of Arts and Science
  • Tolani Institute of Management Studies
  • Gandhidham Polytechnic Institute
  • Tolani College of Pharmacy
  • Dada Dukhayal College of Education

Admissions were traditionally competitive with the rest of the district, but overall, due to the limited infrastructure surrounding the campuses, the populace is mostly local students from Anjar, Gandhidham, Adipur, and other surrounding towns.
