tan-nama-sankirtanam eva mukhyam
tat-prema-sampaj-janane svayam drak
saktum tatah sresthatamam matam tat
Of the many ways to glorify Lord Krishna, chanting His holy name is the first. Because it has the power to give the great wealth of pure love for Him, it is considered the best.
sri-krishna-namamrtam atma-hrdyam
premna samasvadana-bhangi-purvam
yat sevyate jihvikayaviramam
tasyatulam jalpatu ko mahattvam
Who can describe the peerless glory of Lord Krishna's holy name, which delights the heart and is waves of nectar always lovingly tasted by the tongue?
sarvesam bhagavan-namnam
samano mahimapi cet
tathapi sva-priyenasu
svartha-siddhih sukham bhavet
Although all the Lord's names are equally glorious, by chanting the names that are dear to the devotees one quickly and easily attains his desire.
vicitra-ruci-lokanam
kramat sarvesu namasu
priyata-sambhavat tani
sarvani syuh priyani hi
The devotees attracted to various names of the Lord gradually become attracted to all His names. They all become dear to him.
ekasminn indriye pradur
bhutam namamrtam rasaih
aplavayati sarvanin
driyani madhurair nijaih
Appearing in one sense, the nectar of the holy name floods all the senses with sweetness.
mukhyo vag-indriye tasyo-
dayah sva-para-harsadah
tat pradhor dhyanato 'pi syan
nama-sankirtanam varam
The holy name's appearance on the voice-sense delights both oneself and others. For this reason glorifying the Lord's holy name is better than meditating on Him.
nama-sankirtanam proktam
krishnasya prema sampadi
balistham sadhanam srestham
paramakrasa-mantra-vat
It is said that chanting the holy name is a great treasure of love for Lord Krishna. It is the best and most powerful spiritual practice. It is like the best mantra.
tad eva manyate bhakteh
phalam tad rasikair janaih
bhagavata-prema-sampattau
sadaivavyabhicaratah
They who know how to taste spiritual nectar know that spiritual love is the fruit of devotional service. In spiritual love one chants the holy name without stop.
sal-laksanam prema-bharasya krishne
kaiscid rasajnair uta kathyate tat
premno bharenaiva ni jesta-nama-
sankirtanam hi sphurati sphutartya
They who know how to taste nectar describe the spiritual qualities of intense love for Lord Krishna. When the chanter is in distress, the Lord's holy name is chanted with great love.
namnam tu sankirtanam arti-bharan
megham vina pravrsi catakanm
ratrau viyogat sva-pate rathangi-
vargasya cakrosana-vat pratihi
Know that, as the cataka birds lament when there is no raincloud, and as the cakravaki birds lament when separated from their husbands, so the devotees, distressed by separation from the Lord, make a lament of chanting the holy names.
vicitra-lila-rasa-sagarasya
prabhor vicitrat sphuritat prasadat
vicitra-sankirtana-madhuri sa
ma tu sva-yatnad iti sadhu sidhyet
Only by the wonderful mercy of the Lord, who is a nectar ocean of wonderful pastimes, is the wonderful sweetness of chanting the holy name manifest. It is not manifest by one's own efforts.
GLORIFYING THE LOTUS FEET OF SRI RADHIKA

alam visaya varta ya naraka koti bibhatsaya
vrtha sruti kathasramo bata bibhemi kaivalyatah
paresa bhajanon mada yadi sukadayah tatah kim
parantu mama radhika pada rase mano majjatu
May my mind always float in the ocean of divine nectar emanating from the lotus feet of Srimati Radharani. No more fear of millions of hells. Studying of the scriptures has become simply troublesome. Merging into the brahman effulgence is terrible. The ecstatic symptoms of devotion to the Lord that are felt by the great devotees like Suka have lost their charms.
upasya caranambuje vraja bhrtam kisori ganaih
mahad bhirapi purusair apari bhavya rasotsave
agadha rasa dhamani svapada Padma seva vidhau
vidhehi madhuroj jvalam iva krtim mamadhisvari
O Radha! You are my sole Ruler and only shelter. Countless gopis of Vraja swarm around Your lotus feet and worship them wholeheartedly. Your lotus feet are an inexhaustible fountainhead of the quintessence of universal love and are inconceivable to great saints. That is perhaps the reason why great devotees are striving with ever increasing courage and hope to catch the sweetness and beauty of the grace that flows from Your lotus feet. O Queen! Will You be pleased to show me the particular manner in which I should serve Your lotus feet?
atisnehaduccair api ca hari namani grnatah
tatha saugandhadyair bahubhi rupa carais ca yajatah
paranandam vrndavana manu carantam ca dadhato
mano me radhaya padamrdu lapadme nivasatu
Chanting of the holy name of Lord Hari with love attracts my mind towards Sri Radha's feet. This attraction becomes very strong as soon as the delicious ingredient of Sri Radha's service is added to the chanting. Meditation on blissful Krsna as He roams about in Vrndavana has put me under the shade of the tender feet of kind Sri Radha.
kamam tulikaya karena harinayalatka kairankita
nanakeli vidagdha goparmani vrdai tatha vandita
ya sanguptaya tatha upanisadam hrd yeva vidyo tate
sa radha carana dvayi mama gatih lasyai kalilamayi
My only shelter is Sri Radhika's lotus feet which I yearn to worship with love and devotion. These lotus feet of Srimati Radhika are painted by Krsna's soft fingers with a feather dipped in the most fragrant red-colored juice. The gopis follow Krsna's example and worship the same feet for the happiness of all living entities. These feet are glorified in the Upanisads, and are found in the depth of the hearts of pure devotees.
vrndavanesari tavaiva padaravindam
premamrtaika makaranda rasau gha purnam
hrdyar apitam madhupate smaratapa mugram
nirvapayat parama sitala ma srayami
O Vrndavanesvar! O Sri Radhe! I pray for the shelter of Your lotus feet. Your lotus feet are treasure house of nectar of divine love. Syamasundara keeps them safely and dearly in His heart. These feet are the supreme cooling remedy for the blazing fires of this material world.
yadi snehad radhe disasi ratilam payata padavi
gatam me svaprestam tadapi mamnistham srunu yatha
kataksai raloke smita saha carair jata pulakam
sama aslisyamyuc cai atha ca rasaye tvatpadarasam
O dear Sri Radha! When out of sheer compassion, and moved by Krsna's overwhelming love for You, will grant Him His prayers to massage Your lotus feet? At that time, I shell look at the ecstatic smiling faces of both of You, and so encouraged I shall hug Your feet with my hands, and taste the nectar of Your lotus feet to my full satisfaction.
yasya aste bata kinkarisu bahusas catuni vrndatavi
kandarpah kurute tavaiva kim api prepsuh prasadotsavam
sadrananda ghananuraga lahari nisyanda padambuja
dvandve sri vrsabhanu nandini sada vande tava sripadam
O Vrsabhanu-nandini! I bow down to Your lotus feet with great awe and reverence, from which selfless love is ever pouring forth in abundance. In His ceaseless and tireless efforts to win Your grace, Sri Krsna, the God of love of Vrndavana and Supreme Almighty, always solicits the favors of Your servants with love and affection.
radhapada saroja bhaktim acalam udviksya niskaitavam
pritah svam bhajatopi nibhaira maha premnadhikam sarva sah
alingatyatha cumbati svavadanat tambulam asyer apayet
kante svam vanamali kamapi mama nyasyet kada mohanah
I know, and it has been confirmed by all reliable authorities that Madana-Mohana Krsna would be so ecstatically delighted to see pure devotion unto Sri Radha's lotus feet that he would descend from His worshipped throne to embrace, kiss, give His chewed betel nuts, and garland to Sri Radhika's devotee. When shall I be blessed with such devotion, getting such treatment from Krsna as my reward for devotion to Radha's lotus feet?
sat premasindhu makaranda rasau gadhara
sarana jasramabhitah sravada sritesu
sri radhike tava kada caranaravindam
govinda jivana dhanam sirasa vahami
O Radhika! When shall I enjoy the fortune of having my head used by You as Your footstool? Your feet, which are the life-treasure of Govinda, will then be a crown on my head. They will further bathe my head with a pure nectarine flood of love that always flows among Your devotees.
PREMA BHAKTI: LOVE GOD WITH ALL THY HEART

It was Christ Jesus who first said "Love God with all thy heart, with all thy mind, with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and love man as thy brother." This is an absolute truth indeed; but different men put different interpretations to this noble expression. The expressions of all great men are nice but somewhat mysterious - when understood they bring the truth nearest to heart otherwise they remain mere letters that "kill." The reason of the mystery is that men, advanced in their inward approach to the Deity, are in the habit of receiving revelations which are but mysteries to those that are behind them. The stages of progress are very much the same as the circles of spiritualism which, though not true themselves, explain a great deal about the gradual development of the soul.
We have understood some spiritualists to maintain that matter when sublimated converts itself to spirit. This theory is indeed against any inward conviction. Matter is matter, and spirit is spirit; one of them cannot form the other. Spirit is certainly of superior existence; though we cannot fully understand in our present state of material imprisonment, what relation spirit does exactly bear to matter, space and time. Metaphysics apart, we decide that the human soul rises higher and higher and can understand things of which we have no idea at present. Subject to this important rule, Christ Jesus of Nazareth received and uttered these words quoted above.
To readers who are a little above the scale of ordinary men, these expressions of Jesus teach, that man should love God with all his heart (meaning the affections of the heart perceivable in all children as opposed to hate), with all his mind (meaning the intellect which knows, as opposed to igorance of, good things), with all his soul, (meaning the principle of the human constitution which worships the Almighty and feels its own immortality) and with all its strength (meaning all active work). To the inspired, however, more things and better and sublimer meanings appear beneath these holy words of the inspired Jesus. He teaches man to love God and not to know, infer, hate or think of God. He tells us that man in his absolute state is not the intellect or the body but is the pure soul itself.
The essence of the soul is wisdom and its action is love absolute. The absolute condition of man is his absolute relation to the Deity in pure love. Love then alone is the religion of the soul and consequently of the whole man. The pupil asks here "What have I to do with the heart? - my heart loves to see the 'sun to smile', 'to eat the sweetest dishes and to see a dance'". Jesus profoundly replies "Yes, you must love God with all thy heart. Your heart now runs to other things than God, but you must, as you train a bad horse, make your feelings run to the loving God." This is one of the four principles of worship or what is known in Vaishnava literature as Shanta Rasa. Then the pupil says "My Lord, the intellect takes me elsewhere from God, i.e. it wants to take me to Positivism; please instruct me what am I to do?" "Yes," replies Jesus"you must love god with all your mind, i.e. when you perceive, conceive, remember, imagine and reason, you must not allow yourself to be a dry thinker but must love. Love alone can soften the dryness of the intellect, you must develop the intellect on all good and holy things by means of love of truth, spiritual beauty and harmony." This is the second phase of Vaishnava development which passes by the name of Dasya Rasa. The pupil then enquires whether the development of the affections and the intellect is quite enough for him. Then says the Lord, "You must love God with thy soul also, i.e. you must perceive yourself in spiritual communication with the Deity and receive holy revelations in your sublimest hours of worship." This is called the Sakhya Rasa of the Vaishnavas - the soul approaching the Deity in holy and fearless service.
The disciple apprehends that he will be lost in such a position and will be unable to act. Then the Saviour tells us these words, "You must love God with all thy strength or will - you are wrong to conclude that you will loose your active existence - you will get it the more. Work for God and to God, proceeding from no self interested views but from a holy free will (which is alone the strength of man) and identifying itself with pure love, will fully engross your attention." This description is of Bhakti in general. Then Jesus proceeds to tell us "You must love man as thy brother." From this is inferred the fourth phase of love which is a feeling that all men are brothers and God is their common Father. This is Vatsalya Rasa in its first stage of development.
Bhakti (love) is thus perceived in the very first development of the man in shape of heart, then in the shape of mind, then in the shape of soul and lastly in the shape of will. These shapes do not destroy each other but beautifully harmonize themselves into a pure construction of what we call the spiritual man or the Ekanta of Vaishnava Literature. But there is another sublimer truth behind this fact which is revealed to a few that are prepared for it. We mean the spiritual conversion of the soul into a woman. It is in that sublime and lofty state that the soul can taste the sweets of an indissoluble marriage with the God of love. the fifth or the highest stage of Vaishnava development is this, which we call Madhura Rasa, and on this alone the most beautiful portion of the Vaishnava Literature so ably expatiates. This phase of human life, mysterious as it is, is not attainable by all, nay, we should say, by any but "God's own." It is so very beyond the reach of common men that the rationalists and even the ordinary theists cannot understand it, nay, they go as far as to sneer at it as something unnatural.
Oh God! Reveal Thy most valuable truths to all so that Your own may not be numbered with the fanatics and the crazed and that the whole of mankind may be admitted as "Your own."

Srimati Radhika’s face makes the full moon of the Sarat season feel bashful. Multitudes of flowers adorn her beautifully braided hair. She is dressed in a blue sari and the upper part of her body is covered with a veil. I worship the lotus feet of Srimati Radhika, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu
The dot of sindur on the forehead of Srimati Radhika defeats the redness of the early morning sun. The fragrance of lotus from Her body causes the bumble bees to go wild and fly around her. The gesture of her eyebrows defeats the pride of million of Cupids. I worship the lotus feet of that Srimati Radharani, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu.
Her eyes, which move like the khanjana bird, are anointed with mascara. From the corner of Her eyes, She shoots her beautiful glance, ust like the flower arrows from the bow of Cupid. Her beautiful nose defeats the beauty of sesame-flowers and from it a nose-ring swings very beautifully. I worship the lotus feet of that Srimati Radhika, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu.
Her lips are more reddish than a ripe bimba-frui, and Her teeth are as beautifully set as the seeds of pomegrantes. Her voice is more melodious than that of a cuckoo. I worship the lotus feet of that Srimati Radhika, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu.
The beauty of Her cheeks defeats the beauty of a golden mirror. She wears jeweled ankle bells and Her ear-rings swing beautifully. Her slender fingers are decorated with jewel-studded rings. I worship the lotus feet of that Srimati Radhika, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu.
She moves more majestically than the king of elephants. A golden girdle shines beautifully around her slender waist, and the small gold bells in them tinkle sweetly. Her thighs are smooth and slender like an upturned trunk of a golden banana tree. I worship the lotus feet of that Srimati Radhika, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu.
Her movement is more graceful than a swan’s. Jewelled ankle-bells adorn her feet. I worship the lotus-feet of that Srimati Radhika, the daughter of King Vrsabhanu.
THE PRINCIPLE REASON FOR THE DESCENT OF SRI CAITANYA MAHAPRABHU

External reasons for the appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
Excerpted from Caintanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Ch 3 .
I offer my respectful obeisances to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. By the potency of the shelter of His lotus feet, even a fool can collect the valuable jewels of conclusive truth from the mines of the revealed scriptures. All glories to Lord Caitanya! All glories to Lord Nityananda! All glories to Advaitacandra! And all glories to all the devotees of Lord Caitanya! May the Supreme Lord who is known as the son of Srimati Saci- devi be transcendentally situated in the innermost core of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has descended in the Age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation has ever offered before: the most elevated mellow of devotional service, the mellow of conjugal love.
Lord Krishna, the son of the King of Vraja, is the Supreme Lord. He eternally enjoys transcendental pastimes in His eternal abode, Goloka, which includes Vrajadhama. Once in a day of Brahma, He descends to this world to manifest His transcendental pastimes.
We know that there are four ages [yugas], namely Satya, Treta, Dvapara and Kali. These four together constitute one divya- yuga. Seventy- one divya- yugas constitute one manv- antara. There are fourteen manv- antaras in one day of Brahma. The present Manu, who is the seventh, is called Vaivasvata [the son of Vivasvan]. Twenty- seven divya- yugas [27 x 4,320,000 solar years] of his age have now passed.
At the end of the Dvapara- yuga of the twenty- eighth divya- yuga, Lord Krishna appears on earth with the full paraphernalia of His eternal Vraja- dhama. Servitude [dasya], friendship [sakhya], parental affection [vatsalya] and conjugal love [srngara] are the four transcendental mellows [rasas]. By the devotees who cherish these four mellows, Lord Krishna is subdued. Absorbed in such transcendental love, Lord Sri Krishna enjoys in Vraja with His devoted servants, friends, parents and conjugal lovers.
Lord Krishna enjoys His transcendental pastimes as long as He wishes, and then He disappears. After disappearing, however, He thinks thus:
"For a long time I have not bestowed unalloyed loving service to Me upon the inhabitants of the world. Without such loving attachment, the existence of the material world is useless. Everywhere in the world people worship Me according to scriptural injunctions. But simply by following such regulative principles one cannot attain the loving sentiments of the devotees in Vrajabhumi. Knowing My opulences, the whole world looks upon Me with awe and veneration. But devotion made feeble by such reverence does not attract Me. By performing such regulated devotional service in awe and veneration, one may go to Vaikuntha and attain the four kinds of liberation - sarsti [achieving opulences equal to those of the Lord], sarupya [having a form the same as the Lord's], samipya [living as a personal associate of the Lord] and salokya [living on a Vaikuntha planet]. Devotees never accept sayujya, however, since that is oneness with Brahman.
Hence, I shall personally inaugurate the religion of the age-nama- sankirtana, the congregational chanting of the holy name. I shall make the world dance in ecstasy, realizing the four mellows of loving devotional service. I shall accept the role of a devotee, and I shall teach devotional service by practicing it Myself. Unless one practices devotional service himself, he cannot teach it to others. This conclusion is indeed confirmed throughout the Gita and Bhagavatam."
"Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion-at that time I descend Myself. To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium. If I did not show the proper principles of religion, all these worlds would fall into ruin. I would be the cause of unwanted population and would spoil all these living beings. Whatever actions a great man performs, common people follow. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues."
"My plenary portions can establish the principles of religion for each age. No one but Me, however, can bestow the kind of loving service performed by the residents of Vraja."
There may be many all- auspicious incarnations of the Personality of Godhead, but who other than Lord Sri Krishna can bestow love of God upon the surrendered souls? Thinking thus, the Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna Himself, descended at Nadia early in the Age of Kali. Thus the lionlike Lord Caitanya has appeared in Navadvipa. He has the shoulders of a lion, the powers of a lion, and the loud voice of a lion. May that lion be seated in the core of the heart of every living being. Thus with His resounding roar may He drive away one's elephantine vices.
In His early pastimes He appears as a householder with a golden complexion. His limbs are beautiful, and His body, smeared with the pulp of sandalwood, seems like molten gold. In His later pastimes He accepts the sannyasa order, and He is equipoised and peaceful. He is the highest abode of peace and devotion, for He silences the impersonalist nondevotees.
In Srimad- Bhagavatam it is repeatedly and clearly said that the essence of religion in the Age of Kali is the chanting of the holy name of Krishna. In the Age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the name of Krishna. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Krishna Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions.
The two syllables "krs-na" are always in His mouth; or, He constantly describes Krishna with great pleasure. These are two meanings of the word "krishna- varna." Indeed, nothing else but Krishna issues from His mouth.
By performing the sacrifice of congregational chanting of the holy name, learned scholars in the Age of Kali worship Lord Krishna, who is now nonblackish because of the great upsurge of the feelings of Srimati Radharani. He is the only worshipable Deity for the paramahamsas, who have attained the highest stage of the fourth order [sannyasa]. May that Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Caitanya, show us His great causeless mercy.
The sinful life of the living beings results from ignorance. To destroy that ignorance, He has brought various weapons, such as His plenary associates, His devotees and the holy name. The greatest ignorance consists of activities, whether religious or irreligious, that are opposed to devotional service. They are to be known as sins [kalmasa].
Raising His arms, chanting the holy name and looking upon all with deep love, He drives away all sins and floods everyone with love of Godhead.
May the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the form of Lord Sri Caitanya bestow His causeless mercy upon us. His smiling glance at once drives away all the bereavements of the world, and His very words enliven the auspicious creepers of devotion by expanding their leaves. Taking shelter of His lotus feet invokes transcendental love of God at once.
Anyone who looks upon His beautiful body or beautiful face becomes freed from all sins and obtains the wealth of love of Godhead.
In other incarnations the Lord descended with armies and weapons, but in this incarnation His soldiers are His plenary parts and associates.
Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is always the most worshipable Deity of the demigods, including Lord Siva and Lord Brahma, who came in the garb of ordinary men, bearing love for Him. He instructs His own pure devotional service to His own devotees. Will He again be the object of my vision?
Whenever Sri Krishna desires to manifest His incarnation on earth, first He creates the incarnations of His respectable predecessors. Thus respectable personalities such as His father, mother and spiritual master all take birth on earth first. Madhavendra Puri, Esvara Puri, Srimati Sacimata and Srila Jagannatha Misra all appeared with Sri Advaita Acarya.
Advaita Acarya having appeared, He found the world devoid of devotional service to Sri Krishna because people were engrossed in material affairs. Everyone was engaged in material enjoyment, whether sinfully or virtuously. No one was interested in the transcendental service of the Lord, which can give total relief from the repetition of birth and death. Seeing the activities of the world, the Acarya felt compassion and began to ponder how He could act for the people's benefit.
Advaita Acarya thought: "If Sri Krishna were to appear as an incarnation, He Himself could preach devotion by His personal example. In this Age of Kali there is no religion other than the chanting of the holy name of the Lord, but how in this age will the Lord appear as an incarnation? I shall worship Krishna in a purified state of mind. I shall constantly petition Him in humbleness."
While He was thinking about how to propitiate Krishna by worship, the following verse came to His mind. "Sri Krishna, who is very affectionate toward His devotees, sells Himself to a devotee who offers Him merely a tulasi leaf and a palmful of water."
Advaita Acarya considered the meaning of the verse in this way: "Not finding any way to repay the debt He owes to one who offers Him a tulasi leaf and water, Lord Krishna thinks, 'There is no wealth in My possession that is equal to a tulasi leaf and water.' "Thus the Lord liquidates the debt by offering Himself to the devotee." Considering in this way, the Acarya began worshiping the Lord. Thinking of the lotus feet of Sri Krishna, He constantly offered tulasi buds in water from the Ganges. He appealed to Sri Krishna with loud calls and thus made it possible for Krishna to appear.
Therefore the principal reason for Sri Caitanya's descent is this appeal by Advaita Acarya. The Lord, the protector of religion, appears by the desire of His devotee.
"O my Lord, You always dwell in the vision and hearing of Your pure devotees. You also live in their lotus like hearts, which are purified by devotional service. O my Lord, who are glorified by exalted prayers, You show special favor to Your devotees by manifesting Yourself in the eternal forms in which they welcome You."

In the Caitanya Caritamrita, there is the following authoritative statement (amnaya vakya) concerning Krishna:
mukhya gauna vritti kimva anvaya vyatireke
vedera pratijna kevala kahaye krishnake
The Vedas sometimes speak directly of Krishna, using the primary import of words, and sometimes speak indirectly of Krishna, using the secondary import of words. Sometimes they speak of Krishna with affirmative, logical statements and sometimes by negative or contrary expression.

The Personality of Godhead Sri Krishna is the original primeval Lord, the source of all other expansions. All the revealed scriptures accept Sri Krishna as the Supreme Lord.

The Personality of Godhead is He who is described as the Absolute Whole in the Vedas, Bhagavatam, Upanishads and other transcendental literatures. No one is equal to Him. Through their service, devotees see that Personality of Godhead, just as the denizens of heaven see the personality of the sun. Those who walk the paths of knowledge and yoga worship only Him, for it is Him they perceive as the impersonal Brahman and localized Paramatma.

The Svetasvatara Upanishad says:
eko devo bhagavan varenyo yoni svabhavan adhitishthaty ekah
Bhagavan is worshipable by all. He is the basis of all entities who take birth.

In the Bhagavatam, bhagavan is identified as Krishna:
ete camsa kalah pumsah krishnas tu bhagavan svayam
All the above mentioned incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord, but Lord Sri Krishna is the original Personality of Godhead.

In the Bhagavat Gita, Krishna says:
mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya
O conqueror of wealth, there is no Truth superior to Me.

By all the Vedas am I to be known.

In the Gopala Tapani Upanishad it is said:
tasmat krishna eva paro devas tam dhyayet
tam raset tam bhajet tam yajet
eko vasi sarvagah krishna idya
ekopi san bahudha yo vibhati
tam pithastham ye tu bhajanti dhiras
tesham sukham sasvatam netaresham
Therefore Krishna is the supreme Lord. One should meditate on Him, chant His name, worship Him and make offerings to Him. All pervading and controlling all, he is to be worshipped. Though he is one, he appears in many forms such as Kurma, Matsya, Vasudeva and Sankarshana. Those wise persons who worship this form situated on his pitha attain eternal happiness. Others, worshipping Brahman or Paramatma, cannot attain happiness. G.T. Purva Tapani, 21
There is a karika in this regard:
krishnamshah paramatma vai brahma taj jyotir eva ca
paravyomadhipas tasyaisvarya murtir na samsayah
Krishna is the only Lord. Paramatma is his part and Brahman is his light. Narayana in Vaikuntha is a lordly manifestation of Krishna.
There is no doubt about this, since the Vedas and other scriptures clearly show this. Taittiriya Upanishad says:
satyam jnanam anantam brahma yo veda nihitam guhayam parame vyoman so'snute sarvan kaman saha brahmana vipascita
Brahman is eternal, conscious, and infinite. He is situated in the heart as paramatma and in Vaikuntha as Narayana. Whoever knows the vipascit brahman attains auspicious qualities similar to the Lord's.
Taittiriya Upanishad. 2.1
Here, the expression vipascit brahman means Krishna. Srimad Bhagavatam also uses the world "brahman" to indicate Krishna, as in the following words: gudham param brahma manushya lingam yam mitram paramanandam purnam brahma sanatanam Vishnu Purana also uses the word Brahman to mean Krishna:
yatravatirnam krishnakhyam param brahma narakritim
Where the supreme brahman called Krishna appeared in human-like form
Gita says brahmano hi pratishthaham, I am the basis of brahman.
By these authoritative statements and many thousands more, para brahma or vipascit brahman is equated with Krishna. The meaning of vipascit is "wise" (indicating brahman with quality). It ranks important among the sixty-four qualities of Krishna.
