ADI-BUDDHA (sáns.). El primero o supremo Buddha. El "Buddha Primordial", deidad principal en el sistema Mahayana. Véase, SAMATABHANDRA.


ADI-BUDDHA (ocultistas budistas). El Gran Maestro o Yo Superior de uno. Para los brahmanes el Yo Superior es Atman, y para los gnósticos es el Christos.

ADIBUDHA. (Etim. Del sánscrito addi, inicial, primitivo, y Buddha). Mit. ind. Según los budistas, nombre del ser Supremo, anterior a todo lo creado, y autor de todas las cosas. Según ellos, el Budha primitivo multiplicó su propio ser dando vida a otros cinco Budhas, de los cuales cada uno tuvo a su vez otros cinco hijos espirituales, uno de los cuales, Padmapani, creó el mundo y los tres poderes supremos de Brahma, Visnu y Siva. Esta teoría, nacida y arraigada en el Nepal, es casi desconocida por los budistas del sur. Mongkut, rey de Birmania, muerto en 1868, reconocido generalmente por un sabio budista y muy conocedor de todas las doctrinas de la secta, afirmó al doctor Bastian, de Bremen, que la doctrina de ADIBUDHA era la que, dentro del budismo, se acercaba más a las religiones monoteísta, como el cristianismo, el judaísmo el islamismo.
