Çré Mathurä-prayäna

The Journey to Çré Mathurä

Text 1

çré-närada uväca

räjann evaà vadanténäà

gopénäà virahaà param

vijïäya bhagavän devaù

çéghraà täsäà gåhän yayau

çré-närada uväca—Çré Närada said; räjan—O king;

evam—thus; vadanténäm—speaking; gopénäm—of the

gopés; viraham—the separation; param—great;

vijïäya—understanding; bhagavän—the Supreme

Personality of Godhead; devaù—the Lord; çéghram—at

once; täsäm—of them; gåhän—to the homes;

yayau—went.

Çré Närada said: Aware of the anguish felt by the gopés that

spoke these words, the Supreme Personality of Godhead quickly

went to their homes.

Text 2

yävantyo yoñito räjaàs

tävad rüpa-dharo hariù

svayaà sambodhayäm äsa

vägbhiù sarväù påthak påthak

yävantyaù—as many; yoñitaù—women; räjan—O

king; tävat—so many; rüpa-dharaù—manifesting the

forms; hariù—Kåñëa; svayam—personally;

sambodhayäm äsa—enlightened; vägbhiù—with words;

sarväù—all; påthak påthak—individually.

Expanding into as many forms as there were gopés, Lord Kåñëa

spoke words of instruction to each gopé individually.

Text 3

çré-rädhä-mandiraà gatvä

dåñövä rädhäà ca mürchitam

rahaù-sthitaà sakhé-saìge

nanäda muraléà kaläm

çré-rädhä—of Çré Rädhä; mandiram—to the palace;

gatvä—going; dåñövä—seeing; rädhäm—Rädhä;

ca—and; mürchitam—faibnted; rahaù—in secluded

place; sthitam—situated; sakhé-saìge—in the company

of Her friends; nanäda—played; muralém—the flute; kaläm—sweetly.

Going to Çré Rädhä's palace and seeing Rädhä fallen

unconscious, in a secluded place, and in the company of Her

friends, Lord Kåñëa played sweet and soft notes on His flute.

Text 4

çrutvä vaàçé-dhvanià rädhä

sahasotthäya cäturä

netra unmélya dadåçe

çré-govindaà samägatam

çrutvä—hearing; vaàçé-dhvanim—the sound of the

flute; rädhä—Rädhä; sahasä—at once;

utthäya—rising; ca—and; aturä—agitated;

netre—eyes; unmélya—opening; dadåçe—saw; çré-

govindam—Çré Kåñëa; samägatam—come.

When She heard the flute-music, Rädhä became conscious

again. Agitated, She opened Her eyes and saw that Lord Kåñëa had

come.

Text 5

padminéva gatänandaà

padminé padminé-patim

vékñyotthäyägatä tasmai

sädareëäsanaà dadau

padminé—lotus flowers; iva—like;

gatä—attained; änandam—bliss; padminé—lotus

flowers; padminé-patim—the sun; vékñya—seeing;

utthäya—rising; ägata—come; tasmai—to Him;

sa—with; ädareëa—respect; äsanam—a seat;

dadau—gave.

She gazed at Him as a lotus flower gazes at the sun.

Approaching Him, She respectfully offered Him a seat.

açru-pürëa-mukhéà dénäà

rädhäà kamala-locanäm

çocantéà bhagavän äha

megha-gambhérayä girä

açru—with tears; pürëa—filled; mukhém—face; dénäm—poor; rädhäm—Rädhä; kamala-locanäm—lotus-

eyed; çocantém—weeping; bhagavän—the Supreme

Personality of Godhead; äha—said; megha-

gambhérayä—deep as thunder; girä—with words.

Gazing at poor, weeping, lotus-eyed Rädhä, Her face filled

with tears, the Supreme Personality of Godhead spoke with words

deep as thunder.

Text 7

çré-bhagavän uväca

vimanäs tvaà kathaà bhadre

mä çocaà kuru rädhike

athavä gantu-kämaà mäà

çrutväsi virahäturä

çré-bhagavän uväca—the Supreme Personality of Godhead;

vimanäù—unhappy; tvam—You; katham—why?; bhadre—O

beautiful one; mä—don't; çocam—lament;

kuru—do; rädhike—O Rädhä; athavä—or; gantu-

kämam—wishing to go; mäm—Me; çrutvä—heard;

asi—You are; viraha—by the separation;

aturä—distressed.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Why are You

unhappy, beautiful one? O Rädhä, please don't cry. Are You

unhappy because You heard that I want to go away?

Text 8

bhuvo bhärävatäräya

kaàsädénäà vadhäya ca

brahmaëä prärthitaù säkñäj

jäto 'haà vai tvayä saha

bhuvaù—of the earth; bhära—the burden;

avatäräya—to remove; kaàsädénäm—of the demons headed by

Kaàsa; vadhäya—for the killing; ca—and;

brahmaëä—by Brahmä; prärthitaù—requested;

säkñät—directly; jätaù—born; aham—I am;

vai—indeed; tvayä—You; saha—along with.

To remove the earth's burden and to kill the demons headed

by Kaàsa, on Brahmä's request I have taken birth here with You as

My companion.

Text 9

mathuräà hi gamiñyämi

hariñyämi bhuvo bharam

çéghram aträgamiñyämi

kariñyämi çubhaà tava

mathuräm—to Mathurä; hi—indeed; gamiñyämi—I will

go; hariñyämi—I will remove; bhuvaù—of the earth; bharam—the burden; çéghram—quickly; atra—here; ägamiñyämi—I will return; kariñyämi—I will do;

çubham—the happiness; tava—of You.

I will go to Mathurä and remove the earth's burden. Then I

will quickly return here and make You happy.

ity uktavantaà jagad-éçvaraà harià

rädhä patià präha viyoga-vihvalä

dävägninä däva-lateva mürchitä

su-kampa-romaïcita-bhäva-samvåtä

çré-närada uväca—Çré Närada said; éty—thus;

uktavantam—speaking; jagad-éçvaram—Supreme Personality of

Godhead; harim—Kåñëa; rädhä—Rädhä;

patim—Lord; präha—said; viyoga-vihvalä—anxious about

Their separation; dävägninä—with a forest fire;

däva—on fire; latä—a flowering vine; iva—like;

mürchitä—fainted; su-kampa—trembling; romaïcita—and hairs erect; bhäva—symptoms of love;

samvåtä—filled with.

Çré Närada said: Then, filled with love, trembling, and Her

bodily hairs erect, Rädhä, who was like a flowering vine caught

fire in a conflagration of anxiety about Their separation, spoke

to Her master, Lord Kåñëa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

bhuvo bharaà hartum alaà puréà vraja

kåtaà paraà me çapathaà çåëu tvataù

gate tvayi präëa-pate ca vigrahaà

kadäcid atraiva na dhärayämy aham

çré-rädhä uväca—Çré Rädhä said; bhuvaù—of the

earth; bharam—the burden; hartum—to remove;

alam—greatly; purém—to the city; vraja—go;

kåtam—done; param—then; me—to Me;

çapatham—vow; çåëu—please hear; tvataù—from You; gate—gone; tvayi—when You; präëa-pate—O Lord of My

life; ca—and; vigraham—form;

kadäcit—sometime; atra—here; eva—indeed;

na—not; dhärayämy—maintain; aham—I.

Çré Rädhä said: Go to the city to remove the earth's burden.

But please hear the vow I make. O master of My life, while You

are gone I will not keep this body alive.

Text 12

yadättha me tvaà çapathaà na manyase

dvitéya-väraà pradadämi väk-pathaà

präëo 'dhare gantum atéva-vihvalaù

karpüra-dhüleù kaëavad gamiñyati

yadä—when; attha—You said; me—to Me;

tvam—You; çapatham—vow; na—not;

manyase—think; dvitéya-väram—a second time;

pradadämi—I give; väk—of words; patham—the path; präëaù—life-breath; adhare—on the lips; gantum—to

go; atéva-vihvalaù—very agitated; karpüra-dhüleù—of a

speck of camphor; kaëavat—like a single grain;

gamiñyati—will go.

If You no not believe I will keep this vow, I say it for a

second time: The anxious breath that appears on these lips will

be extinguished like a speck of camphor devoured by a flame.

vacanaà me sva-nigamaà

düré-kartuà kñamo 'smy aham

bhaktänäà vacanaà rädhe

düré-kartuà na ca kñamaù

çré-bhagavän uväca—the Supreme Personality of Godhead

said; vacanam—words; me—of Me; sva-

nigamam—assertion; düré-kartum—far away; kñamaù—am

able; asmy—am; aham—I; bhaktänäm—of the

devotees; vacanam—the words; rädhe—O Rädhä;

düré-kartum—to throw far away; na—not; ca—and;

kñamaù—able.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: I can break My own

vow, but I have no power to break the vow of My devotees.

Text 14

çrédäma-çäpät pürvasmäd

goloke kalahän mama

çata-varñaà te viyogo

bhaviñyati na saàçayaù

çrédäma—of Çrédämä; çäpät—because of the curse;

pürvasmät—previous; goloke—in Goloka; kalahän—froma

quarrel; mama—of Me; çata-varñam—a hundred years; te—of You; viyogaù—separation; bhaviñyati—will

be; na—no; saàçayaù—doubt.

Because of a quarrel in Goloka, Çrédämä cursed You to be

separated fgrom Me. You must be separated from Me for a hundred

years. Of this there is no doubt.

Text 15

mä çokaà kuru kalyäëi

varaà me smara rädhike

mäsaà mäsaà viyoge te

darçanaà me bhaviñyati

mä—don't; çokam—lament; kuru—do; kalyäëi—O

beautiful one; varam—lover; me—Me;

smara—remember; rädhike—O Rädhä; mäsam—month;

mäsam—after month; viyoge—in separation; te—of

You; darçanam—the sight; me—of Me;

bhaviñyati—will be.

Beautiful one, don't cry. O Rädhä, remember Me always as

Your lover. Month after month You will still see Me, even though

We are separated.

Text 16

çré-rädhoväca

mäsaà prati viyoge me

dätuà svaà darçanaà hare

cen nägamiñyasi tadä-

sün duùkhät santyajämy aham

çré-rädhä uväca—Çré Rädhä said; mäsaà prati—every

month; viyoge—in separation; me—to Me; dätum—to

give; svam—own; darçanam—sight; hare—O $; cen—if; na—not; ägamiñyasi—You will return;

tadä—then; asün—life; duùkhät—out of unhappiness; santyajämy—renounce; aham—I.

Çré Rädhä said: If every month You do not return to let Me

see You I will grieve and give up My life.

lokäbhiräma jana-bhüñaëa viçva-dépa

kandarpa-mohana jagad-våjinärti-härin

änanda-kanda yadu-nandana nanda-süno

adyägamasya çapathaà kuru me puras tvam

loka—of the worlds; abhiräma—O happiness; jana—of

the people; bhüñaëa—O ornament; viçva—of the

universe; dépa—O lamp; kandarpa—as kämadeva;

mohana—charming; jagat—of the universes; våjina—of the

sins; arti—the sufferings; härin—O remover;

änanda-kanda—O source of bliss; yadu-nandana—O descendent of

Yadu; nanda-sünaù—O son of Nanda; adya—today;

ägamasya—of the return; çapatham—vow; kuru—do;

me—of Me; puraù—in the presence; tvam—You.

O happiness of the worlds, O ornament of the people, O lamp

lighting the universe, O youth more handsome than Kämadeva, O

Lord who removes the world's sufferings, O root from which all

bliss has blossomed, O descendent of King Yadu, O son of Nanda,

promise Me that You will return.

çré-bhagavän uväca

rambhoru mäsaà prati te viyoge

cen nägamiñye çapathaà gaväà me

niùsaàçayaà niñkapaöaà vacas tvaà

avehi rädhe kathitaà mayä yat

çré-bhagavän uväca—the Supreme Personality of Godhead

said; rambha—banana tree; üru—thighs;

mäsam—month; prati—every; te—of You; viyoge—in

separation; cen—if; na—not;

ägamiñye—return; çapatham—promise; gaväm—of the

cows; me—of Me; niùsaàçayam—wihtout doubt;

niñkapaöam—without duplicity; vacaù—words;

tvam—You; avehi—please understand; rädhe—O Rädhä; kathitam—spoken; mayä—by Me; yat—which.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O girl with thighs

graceful as banana trees, every month I will return. I vow this

on all My cows. O Rädhä, please believe that My words are not a

lie.

Text 19

yo mitratäà niñkapaöaà karoti

niñkäraëo dhanyatamaù sa eva

vidhäya maitréà kapaöaà vidadhyät

taà lampaöaà hetu-paöaà naöaà dhik

yaù—who; mitratäm—to friendship;

niñkapaöam—sincere; karoti—does;

niñkäraëaù—unselfish; dhanyatamaù—most fortunate;

sa—he; eva—indeed; vidhäya—placing;

maitrém—friendship; kapaöam—insincere;

vidadhyät—should place; tam—that; lampaöam—a

debauchee; hetu—reason; paöam—dressed; naöam—an

actor; dhik—fie!

An unselfish and sincere friend is the most fortunate of

persons. Fie on one who is only an actor pretending to be a

friend!

karmendriyäëéha yathä rasädiàs

tathä sa-kämä munayaù sukhaà yat

manäì na jänanti hi nairapekñaà

güòhaà paraà nirguëa-lakñaëaà tat

karma—working; indriyäëi—senses; iha—here;

yathä—as; rasädiàù—beginning with the tongue;

tathä—so; sa-kämä—with desire; munayaù—the sages; sukham—happiness; yat—which; manäk—slightly;

na—not; jänanti—know; hi—indeed;

nairapekñam—aloofness; güòham—hidden; param—great; nirguëa-lakñaëam—beyond the modes of nature; tat—that.

Philosophers that still desire the objects of the material

senses cannot at all understand the great secret of renunciation,

a secret untouched by the three modes of nature.

jänanti santaù sama-darçino ye

däntä mahäntaù kila nairapekñäù

te nairapekñyaà paramaà sukhaà me

jïänendriyädéni yathä rasädén

jänanti—know; santaù—the saintly devotees; sama-

darçinaù—seeing equally; ye—who; däntä—self-

controlled; mahäntaù—great souls; kila—indeed;

nairapekñäù—renounced; te—they;

nairapekñyam—renunciation; paramam—supreme;

sukham—happiness; me—of Me; jïänendriyädéni—beginning with the knowledge-acquiring

senses; yathä—as; rasädén—beginning with taste.

Saintly devotees, who control their senses and see everyone

equally, know the great happiness of renunciation. They taste Me

with their tongues and the directly experience Me with their

other senses.

Text 22

sarvaà hi bhävaà manasaù parasparaà

na hy ekato bhämini jäyate tataù

premaiva kartavyam ato mayi svataù

premëä samänaà bhuvi nästi kiïcit

sarvam—all; hi—indeed; bhävam—love;

manasaù—of the heart; parasparam—mutual; na—not; hy—indeed; ekataù—alone; bhämini—O beautiful

one; jäyate—is born; tataù—then;

prema—love; eva—indeed; kartavyam—should be done; ataù—then; mayi—for Me; svataù—spontaneously; premëä—with love; samänam—equal; bhuvi—in the

world; na—not; asti—is; kiïcit—anything.

O beautiful one, they love Me with all their hearts. The

living entities should love Me. In this world nothing is equal to

love for Me.

Text 23

yathä hi bhäëòéra-vaöe manoratho

babhüva rädhe hi tathä bhaviñyati

ahaitukaà prema ca sadbhir äçritaà

tac cäpi santaù kila nirguëaà viduù

yathä—as; hi—indeed; bhäëòéra-vaöe—in

Bhandiravana; manorathaù—desire; babhüva—was;

rädhe—O Rädhä; hi—indeed; tathä—so;

bhaviñyati—will be; ahaitukam—causless;

prema—love; ca—and; sadbhiù—by the devotees;

äçritam—taken shelter; tac—that; ca—and;

api—even; santaù—the devotees; kila—indeed;

nirguëam—beyond the modes; viduù—know.

O Rädhä, as in the past I fulfilled Your desires in

Bhäëòéravana forest, so in the future I will fulfill them again.

The saintly devotees love Me selflessly. They stand on the

spiritual platform, above the three modes of material nature.

Text 24

ye rädhikäyäà tvayi keçave mayi

bhedaà na kurvanti hi dugdha-sauklyavat

ta eva me brahma-padaà prayänti tad

ahaituka-sphurjita-bhakti-lakñaëäù

ye—who; rädhikäyäm—in Rädhä; tvayi—in You;

keçave—in Kåñëa; mayi—in Me; bhedam—difference;

na—not; kurvanti—do; hi—indeed; dugdha—milk; sauklya—and whiteness; vat—like; ta—they;

eva—indeed; me—of Me; brahma-padam—the spiritual

abode; prayänti—attain; tat—that;

ahaituka—selfless; sphurjita—manifest;

bhakti—devotional service; lakñaëäù—characterized.

They who know that as milk and its quality of whiteness

cannot be separated, so there is no difference between You,

Rädhä, and Me, Kåñëa, are My selfless devotees. They go to My

transcendental abode.

Text 25

ye rädhikäyäà tvayi keçave mayi

paçyanti bhedaà ku-dhiyo narä bhuvi

te käla-sütraà prapatanti duùkhitä

rambhoru yävat kila candra-bhäskarau

ye—who; rädhikäyäm—in Rädhä; tvayi—in You;

keçave—in Kåñëa; mayi—in Me; paçyanti—see;

bhedam—difference; ku-dhiyaù—fools; naräù—people; bhuvi—in this world; te—they; käla-sütram—the rope

of time; prapatanti—fall; duùkhitä—unhappy;

rambha—banana trees; üru—thighs; yävat—as;

kila—indeed; candra—the moon; bhäskarau—and the sun.

They who see a difference etween You, Rädhä, and Me, Kåñëa,

are fools. O girl with thighs graceful as banana trees, they fall

into the line of time and suffer there for as long as the sun and

the moon shine in the sky.

çré-närada uväca

evam äçväsya täà rädhäà

sarvaà gopé-gaëaà tathä

äyayau nanda-bhavanaà

bhagavän naya-kovidaù

çré-närada uväca—Çré Närada said; evam—thus;

äçväsya—comforting; täm—Her; rädhäm—Rädhä;

sarvam—all; gopé-gaëam—the gopés; tathä—so;

äyayau—went; nanda-bhavanam—to Nanda's palace;

bhagavän—the Lord; naya-kovidaù—the greatest philosopher.

Çré Närada said: After thus comforting Rädhä and the gopés,

the Lord, who is the wisest of philosophers, returned to Nanda's

palace.

atha süryodaye jäte

nandädyäù çakaöair balim

nétvä rathän samäruhya

sarve çré-mathuräà yayuù

atha—then; süryodaye—at sunrise;

jäte—manifested; nandädyäù—headed by nanda;

çakaöaiù—with wagons; balim—offerings;

nétvä—taking; rathän—chariots; samäruhya—climbing; sarve—all; çré-mathuräm—to Mathurä; yayuù—went.

The next morning at sunrise Nanda and all the gopas put

their offerings in many wagons, themselves climbed onto many

chariots, and went to Mathurä.

äruhya räma-kåñëäbhyäà

svaà rathaà gandiné-sutaù

prayäëam akarod räjan

mathuräà drañöum udyataù

äruhya—climbing; räma-kåñëäbhyäm—with Kåñëa and

Balaräma; svam—own; ratham—chariot; gandiné-

sutaù—Akrüra; prayäëam—the journey; akarot—did;

räjan—O king; mathuräm—to Mathurä; drañöum—to see; udyataù—prepared.

O king, Akrüra climbed on his chariot and with Kåñëa and

Balaräma went to see Mathurä.

koöisaù koöiço gopyo

märge märge samästhitäù

paçyantyas tan-nirgamanaà

krodhäòhyä moha-vihvaläù

koöisaù koöiçaù—millions and millions; gopyaù—of

gopés; märge—on path; märge—after path;

samästhitäù—stood; paçyantyaù—gazing; tan-

nirgamanam—at the departure; krodhäòhyä—filled with

anger; moha-vihvaläù—overcome with bewilderment.

Angry and bewildered, millions and millions of gopéss stood

on every path, staring at the Lord's departure.

krüra krüreti cäkrüraà

vadantyaù päruñaà vacaù

rurudhuù sarvato yänaà

yathärkaà sa-rathaà ghanaù

krüra—cruel; krüra—cruel; iti—thus;

ca—and; akrüram—to Akrüra; vadantyaù—saying;

päruñam—harsh; vacaù—words; rurudhuù—blocked;

sarvataù—everywhere; yänam—the journey; yathä—as; arkam—the sun; sa-ratham—with chariot; ghanaù—a

cloud.

Calling out, "Cruel! Cruel!" they jeered Akrüra. As

clouds block the sun-god's chariot, they blocked every path

akrürasya rathaà räjan

nijaghnur yañöibhir bhåçäm

açväàs tathä särathià ca

bhagavad-virahäturäù

akrürasya—of Akrüra; ratham—the chariot; räjan—O

king; nijaghnuù—hit; yañöibhiù—with sticks;

bhåçäm—greatly; açvän—the horses; tathä—so;

särathim—the charioteer; ca—and; bhagavad-

virahäturäù—distraught with separation from the Lord.

O king, anguished by their imminent separation from the

Lord, with sticks the gopés whipped Akrüra's chariot, horses, and

chariot driver.

açväs tatra samutpetus

täòitäs ta itas tataù

gopé-dvy-aìguli-ghätena

särathiù patito rathät

açväù—the horses; tatra—there;

samutpetuù—bolted; täòitäù—beated; ta—they;

itaù—here; tataù—and there; gopé—of the gopés;

dvi—two; aìguli—fingers; ghätena—by the blow;

särathiù—the charioteer; patitaù—fell; rathät—from the

chariot.

The whipped horses suddenly bolted, running here and there.

Pushed by two gopé fingers, the charioteer fell from the chariot.

Text 33

vihäya lajjäà lokasya

samäkåñya rathäd balät

kaìkaëais teòur akrüraà

paçyatoù kåñëa-rämayoù

vihäya—giving up; lajjäm—the shame; lokasya—of

the world; samäkåñya—pulling; rathät—from the

chariot; balät—by force; kaìkaëaiù—with

bracelets; teòuù—beat; akrüram—Akrüra;

paçyatoù—looking on; kåñëa-rämayoù—Kåñëa and Balaräma.

Throwing their shyness far away, they dragged Akrüra from

the chariot and beat him with their bracelets as Kåñëa and

Balaräma passively looked on.

Text 34

gopé-yütha-balaà dåñövä

sa-balo bhagavän hariù

gopéù sambodhayäm äsa

rakñitvä gandiné-sutam

gopé-yütha—of the gopés; balam—the power;

dåñövä—seeing; sa-balaù—with Balaräma; bhagavän—the

Supreme Personality of Godhead; hariù—Kåñëa; gopéù—to

the gopés; sambodhayäm äsa—addressed;

rakñitvä—protecting; gandiné-sutam—Akrüra.

Seeing how strong the gopés were, Lord Kåñëa and Balaräma

interceded on Akrüra's behalf and protected him. Lord Kåñëa said

to the gopés:

sandhyäyäm ägamiñyämi

mä çokaà kurutäìganäù

paçyataç cäsya mad-dhäsyaà

mä kurvantu vrajaukasaù

sandhyäyäm—at sunset; ägamiñyämi—I will return;

mä—don't; çokam—lament; kuruta—do; aìganäù—O

girls; paçyataù—looking; ca-—and; asya—of

him; mad-dhäsyam—troubling; mä—not;

kurvantu—should do; vrajaukasaù—the people of Vraja.

Girls, don't cry. At sunset I will return. The people of

Vraja should not trouble Akrüra.

ity evam uktvä sarathaù samägato

'krüreëa kåñëo baladeva-samyutaù

turaìgamair vegamayair manoharair

yayau puréà yädava-vånda-maëòitam

ity—thus; evam—thus; uktvä—speaking;

sarathaù—riding in a chariot; samägataù—come;

akrüreëa—with Akrüra; kåñëaù—Kåñëa; baladeva-

samyutaù—with Balaräma; turaìgamaiù—with the horses;

vegamayaiù—fast; manoharaiù—handsome; yayau—went; purém—to the city; yädava-vånda-maëòitam—decorated with

the Yädavas.

After speaking these words, Lord Kåñëa, accompanied by

Balaräma and Akrüra, journeyed in the chariot pulled by many fast

and handsome horses to the great city Mathurä, which had the

Yädavas as its splendid decoration.

yävad rathaù ketur utäçva-reëur

alakñyate tävad atéva-mohät

sthitä hy abhüvan pathi citravat täù

småtvä harer väkyam utägatäçäù

yävat—as; rathaù—the chariot; ketuù—the flag; uta—indeed; açva—of the horses; reëuù—the dust; alakñyate—was seen; tävat—so; atéva—great;

mohät—from illusion; sthitä—situated; hy—indeed; abhüvan—was; pathi—on the path; citravat—like a

picture; täù —they; småtvä—remembering;

hareù—of Lord Kåñëa; väkyam—the words; uta—indeed; ägata—returned; äçäù—hope.

As long as the chariot, it's flag, or the cloud of dust the

running horses made could be seen, the stunned gopés stood like

painted pictures on the path. Then, remembering Lord Kåñëa's

words, they became hopeful.
