Çré Nanda-mahotsava-varëana


Description of Çré Nanda's Festival


Text 1


atha putrotsavaà jätaà

çrutvä nanda uñaù-kñaëe

brähmaëäàç ca samähüya

kärayäm äsa maìgalam


atha—then; putra—of his son; utsavam—festival; jätam—born; çrutvä—hearing; nandaù—Nanda; uñaù-kñaëe—at dawn; brähmaëän—the brähmaëas; ca—also; samähüya—calling; kärayäm äsa—made; maìgalam—auspciousness.


Hearing the happy news of his son's birth, Nanda called the brähmaëas at dawn and had them perform the auspicious ceremonies.

sa-vidhi jätakaà kåtvä

nanda-räjo mahä-manäù

viprebhyo dakñiëäbhiç ca

mudä lakñaà gaväà dadau


sa-vidhi—following tradition; jätakam—the birth ceremony; kåtvä—having done; nanda-räjaù—King Nanda; mahä-manäù—who had a noble-heart; viprebhyaù—to the brähmaëas; dakñiëäbhiù—with priestly rewards; ca—also; mudä—happily; lakñam—a hundred thousand; gaväm—cows; dadau—gave.


When the traditional birth-ceremony was performed, noble-hearted King Nanda happily gave the brähmaëas a hundred thousand cows as dakñiëä.

suvarëa-çikharän girén

sa-rasän sapta-dhanyänäà

dadau viprebhya änataù


kroça—two miles; mätram—size; rätna—of jewels; sänün—mountain peaks; suvarëa—of gold; çikharän—mountain peaks; girén—mountains; sa-rasän—with nectar; sapta—seven; dhanyänäm—of wealth; dadau—gave; viprebhyaù—to the brähmaëas; änataù—his head bowed.


With bowed head he gave many hills of seven grains with peaks of jewels and gold to the brähmaëas.

mådaìga-véëä-çaìkhädyä

nedur dundubhayo muhuù

gäyakäç ca jagur dväre

nanåtur vära-yoñitaù


mådaìga-véëä-çaìkhädyäù—beginning with mådaìgas, véëäs, and çaìkhas; neduù—sounded; dundubhayaù—drums; muhuù—again and again; gäyakäù—singers; ca—also; jaguù—sang; dväre—at the door; nanåtuù—danced; vära-yoñitaù—väräaganäs.


Mådaìgas, véëäs, çaìkhas, dundubhis, and other instruments sounded again and again, singers sang, and at the entrance väräaganäs danced.

Decorated with beautiful and wonderfully colorful flags, awnings, gateways, and golden pots, Çré Nanda's palace was glorious.

rathyä—highways; véthyäù—footpaths; ca—also; dehalyaù—entranceways; bhitti—walls; praìgana—courtyards; vedikäù—platforms; tolikä-maëòapa-sabhä—gazebos and assembly-halls; rejuù—shone; gandha—fragrant; jala-ambaraiù—with water.


The highways, footpaths, entanceways, walls, courtyards, platforms, gazebos, and assembly-halls glistened with drops of fragrant water.

gävaù suvarëa-çåagyaç ca

hema-mälä-lasad-galäù

ghaëöä-maïjéra-jhaìkärä

rakta-kambala-maëòitäù


gävaù—the cows; suvarëa—gold; çåagyaù—with horns; ca—also; hema—of gold; mälä—with necklaces; lasat—shining; galäù—necks; ghaëöä—bells; maïjéra—and tinkling ornaments; jhaìkäräù—thinking; rakta—red; kambala—blankets; maëòitäù—decorated.


The cows were decorated with red cloths and their horns were covered with gold. Their necks glistened with golden necklaces and they tinkled with many bells and ornaments.

péta-pucchä sa-vatsäç ca

taruëé-kara-cihnikäù

haridra-kuakumair yuktäs

citra-dhätu-vicitritäù


péta—yellow; pucchäù—tails; sa-vatsäù—with calves; ca—also; taruëé—of young girls; kara—of the hand; cihnikäù—with the marks; haridra—with turmeric; kuakumaiù—and kuakuma; yuktäù—endowed; citra—colorful; dhätu—with mineral pigments; vicitritäù—decorated with pictures and designs.


Their tails were yellow, their calves were by their sides, they were decorated with taruëé-karas, they were anointed with turmeric and kuakuma, and they were decorated with designs and pictures drawn in mineral colors.

barhi—peacock; pucchaiù—with feathers; gandha—scented; jalaiù—with water; våñä—bulls; dharma-dhurandharäù—bearing the principles of religion; itas tataù—here and there; virejuù—shone; çré-nanda-dväri—at Nanda's door; manoharäù—handsome.


Decorated with peacock feathers and sprinkled with scented water, many bulls bearing the principles of religion shone gloriously at Çré Nanda's door.

go-vatsäù—calves; hema—gold; mälä—necklaces; ädhyäù—opulent; muktä—of pearls; hära—necklaces; viräjitäù—splendid; itas tataù—here and there; vilaìghantaù—leaping; maïjéra—tinkling ornaments; caraëäù—hooves; sitäù—white.


Opulent with golden necklaces, spkendid with strands of pearls, and their hooves decorated with tinkling ornaments, white calves jumped here and there.

çrutvä—hearing; putra—of the son; utsavam—the festival; tasya—of him; våñabhänu-varaù—King Våñabhänu; tathä—so; kalävatyä—with kalävaté; gaja-ärüòhaù—on an elephant; nanda-mandiram—to Nanda's palace; äyayau—went.


Hearing of the festival celebrating a son's birth, King Våñabhänu and Kalävati came, riding on an elephant, to Nanda's palace.

nandäù—Nandas; nava—nine; upanandäù—Upanandas; ca—also; tathä—then; ñaò—six; våñabhänavaù—Våñabhänus; nänä—various; upäyana—gifts; samyuktäù—bearing; sarve—all; te—they; api—also; samäyayuù—came.


The nine Nandas and Upanandas and the six Våñabhänus all came, bringing many gifts.

uñëéça—turban; upari—above; mälä—with garlands; äòhyäù—opulent; péta—yellow; kaïcuka—upper garment; çobhitäù—decorated; barha—peacock feather; guïjä—and gunja; baddha—tied; keçäù—hair; vana—forest; mälä—garlands; vibhüñaëäù—decorated.


Their turbans opulent with flower garlands and their hair tied with guïä and peacock feathers, they were decorated with forest garlands and handsome with yellow garments.

vaàsé—flutes; dhäräù—holding; vetra—sticks; hastäù—in hand; su-pätra—with beautiful pictures and designs; tilaka—with tilaka; arcitäù—anointed; baddha-barhäù—with peacock feathers; parékäräù—multitudes; gopäù—gopas; te—they; api—also; samäyayuù—came.


Carrying flutes, sticks in hand, and decorated with peacock feathers and tilaka decorations, many cowherd men came.

smaçruläù çiçavaù pare


nåtyantaù—dancing; parigäyantaù—singing; dhunvantaù—shaking; vasanäni—garments; ca—and; nänä—various; upäyana—gifts; samyuktäù—with; smaçruläù—bearded men; çiçavaù—children; pare—others.


Dancing, singing, and shaking their garments, many bearded men, accompanied by their sons, brought many different gifts.

dadhy-ajyänäà balén bahün

nétvä våddhä yañöi-hastä

nanda-mandiram äyayuù


haiyaìgavina—of fresh butter; dugdhänäm—milk; dadhi—yogurt; ajyänäm—and ghee; balén—offerings; bahün—many; nétvä—bringing; våddhäù—elderly; yañöi—sticks; hastäù—in hand; nanda—of Nanda; mandiram—to the palace; äyayuù—came.


Sticks in hand, and bringing many offerings of butter, ghee, milk, and yogurt, many elder cowherd men came to Nanda's palace.

kathayantaù parasparam

prema-vihvala-bhävaiù svair

änandäçru-samäkuläù


putra-utsavam—the festival of a son; vrajeçasya—of the king of Vraja; kathayantaù—talking; parasparam—among themselves; prema-vihvala-bhävaiù—overcome with love; svaiù—own; änanda—of bliss; açru—with tears; samäkuläù—filled.


Overcome with love and their eyes filled with tears of bliss, they talked about the birth-festival of the king of Vraja's son.

svänandäçrv-äkulekñaëaù

pujayäm äsa tän sarväàs

tilakädyair vidhänataù


jäte—manifested; putrotsave—the festival of a son; nandaù—Nanda; svänanda—of bliss; açru—with tears; äkula—filled; ékñaëaù—eyes; pujayäm äsa—worshiped; tän—them; sarvän—all; tilakädyaiù—beginning with tilaka; vidhänataù—by placing.


His eyes filled with tears of bliss, Nanda worshiped everyone with tilaka and other gifts during the festival celebrating his son's birth.

jätaù putrotsavas tathä

anapatyasyecchato 'lam

ataù kià maìgalaà param


çré-gopäù ücuù—the cowherd men said; he—O; vrajeçvara—king of Vraja; he—O; nanda—Nanda; jätaù—born; putrotsavaù—the festival of a son; tathä—so; anapatyasya—of one who is childless; icchataù—desiring; alam—greatly; ataù—then; kim—what?; maìgalam—auspiciousness; param—greater.


The cowherd men said: O king of Vraja, O Nanda, for a chuldless man who desires a son, what can be more auspicious than this festival of a son's birth?

daivena darçitaà cedaà

dinaà vo bahubhir dinaiù

kåta-kåtyäç ca bhütäù smo

dåñövä çré-nanda-nandanam


daivena—by fate; darçitam-shown; ca—also; idam—this; dinam—day; vaù—of us; bahubhiù—with many; dinaiù—days; kåta-kåtyäù—successful; ca—also; bhütäù—become; smaù—we; dåñövä—seeing; çré-nanda-nandanam—the son of Nanda.


After many days, destiny shows this day to us. As we gaze at Nanda's son, our lives have attained success.

he mohaneti dürät tam

aìkaà nétvä gadiñyasi

yadä lälana-bhävena

bhavitä nas tadä sukham


he—O; mohana—charming one; iti—thus; dürät—from far away; tam—Him; aìkam—on the lap; nétvä—taking; gadiñyasi—You will say; yadä—when; lälana-bhävena—with fondling; bhavitä—will be; naù—of us; tadä—then; sukham—happiness.


When, placing Him on your lap, you fondle Him and say, "O my charming one," then we will be happy.

bhavatäm äçiñaù puëyäj

jätaà saukhyam idaà çubham

gopänäà vraja-väsinäm


çré-nandaù uväca—Çré Nanda said; bhavatäm—of you; äçiñaù—the blessings; puëyät—from piety; jätam—born; saukhyam—happiness; idam—this; çubham—auspiciousness; äjïä—the order; värté—speaking; hi—indeed; aham—I; gopä—O cowherd men; gopänäm—of the cowherd men; vraja-väsinäm—of the residents of Vraja.


Çré Nanda said: Your pious blessings make me very happy. O cowherd men, I am a servant obedient to the orders of the cowherd men of Vraja.

çré-nanda-räja-suta-sambhavam adbhutaà ca

çrutvä visåjya gåha-karma tadaiva gopyaù

çré-näradaù uväca—Çré Närada said; çré-nanda-räja—of King Nanda; suta—of the son; sambhavam—the birth; adbhutam—wonderful; ca—also; çrutvä—hearing; visåjya—abandoning; gåha—household; karma—duties; tadä—then; eva—indeed; gopyaù—the gopés; türëam—quickly; yayuù—went; sa-balayaù—with offerings; vraja-räja-gehän—to the palace of the king of Vraja; udyat—rising; pramoda—happiness; paripürita—flooded; håt—hearts; manaù—minds; 'agäù—and limbs.


Çré Närada said: Hearing of the wonderful birth of King Nanda's son, the gopés at once abandoned their household duties. Their hearts, minds, and limbs flooded with rising happiness, they rushed with gifts to the palace of Vraja's king.

sarvä itas tata uta tvaram ävrajantyaù

yäna-çlathad-vasana-bhüñaëa-keça-bandhä

rejur narendra pathi bhüpari mukta-muktäù


ä—up to; nanda-of Nanda; mandira-purät—the palace; sva—own; gåhat—from the home; vrajantyaù—going; sarväù—all; itas tataù—here and there; uta—indeed; tvaram—quickly; ävrajantyaù—coming; yäna—from coming; çlathat—loosened; vasana—garments; bhüñaëa—ornaments; keça-bandhäù—and hair; rejuù—shone; narendra—O king; pathi—on the path; bhüpari—on the ground; mukta—released; muktäù—pearls.


O king, running from their own homes to Nanda's palace, their garments, ornaments, and hair becoming loose as they went, and dropping pearls on the ground, they all were splendidly beautiful.

çré-kaëöha-sütra-bhuja-kaìkana-bindukäbhiù

jhaìkära—jingling; nüpura—anklets; nava—new; aìgada—armlets; hema—golden; céra—garments; maïjéra—ornaments; hära—necklaces; maëi—jewels; kuëòala—earrings; mekhaläbhiù—with belts; çré-kaëöha-sütra—necklaces; bhuja-kaìkana—with bracelets; bindukäbhiù—with dots; pürëa—full; indu—moon; maëòala—circle; nava—new; dyutibhiù—with splendor; virejuù—shone.


Decorated with tinkling anklets, armlets, gold céras, anklebells, necklaces, jewel earrings, sashes, kaëöùa-sütras, bracelets, and bindukäs, they shone with the glory of a host of full moons.

çré-räjika-lavaëa-rätri-viçeña-cürëair

go-dhüma-sarñapa-yavaiù kara-lälanaiç ca

uttärya bälaka-mukhopari cäçiñäs täù

sarvä dadur nåpa jagur jagadur yaçodäm


çré-räjika-lavaëa-rätri-viçeña-cürëaiù—with ground mustard and salt; go-dhüma-sarñapa-yavaiù—with wheat and barley flour; kara—of the hand; lälanaiù—with gentle strokes; ca—also; uttärya—lifting; bälaka—of the child; mukha—face; upari—above; ca—and; äçiñäù—benedictions; täù—they; sarväù—all; daduù—gave; nåpa—O king; jaguù—they sang; jagaduù—they spoke; yaçodäm—to Yaçodä.


With gentle strokes they anointed the child's face with a paste of wheat and barley flours, black mustard, and salt. They all gave many blessings. O king, they sang, and then they spoke to Yaçodä.

sädhu sädhu yaçode te

diñöyä diñöyä vrajeçvari

dhanyä dhanyä parä kukñir

yayäyäà janitaù sutaù


çré-gopyaù ücuù—the gopés said; sädhu—well done; sädhu—well done; yaçode—O Yasodä; te—to you; diñöyä—by good fortune; diñöyä—by good fortune; vraja—of Vraja; éçvari—O queen; dhanyä—fortunate; dhanyä—fortunate; parä—exalted; kukñiù—womb; yayä—by which; ayam—He; janitaù—born; sutaù—son.


The gopés said: O Yaçodä, well done! Well done! O queen of Vraja, your fortune is very great! Your fortune is very great! Your noble womb, which gave birth to such a son, is very fortunate, very fortunate!

icchä-yuktaà kåtaà te vai

devena bahu-kälataù

rakña bälaà padma-netraà

su-smitaà çyäma-sundaram


icchä—desire; yuktam—endowed; kåtam—done; te—by you; vai—indeed; devena—by the Lord; bahu-kälataù—after a long time; rakña—please protect; bälam—the child; padma—lotus; netram—eyes; su-smitam—with a charming smile; çyäma—dark; sundaram—and handsome.


After a long time the Lord fulfilled your desire. (O Lord,) please protect this lotus-eyed, sweetly smiling, handsome, dark boy.

bhavadéya-dayäçérbhir

jätaà saukhyaà paraà ca me

çré-yaçodä uväca—Çré Yaçodä said; bhavadéya—your; dayä—of mercy; äçérbhiù—with blessings; jätam—created; saukhyam—happiness; param—great; ca—also; me—of me; bhavaténäm—of you; api—also; param—then; diñöyä—by good fortune; bhüyät—may be; ataù param—then.


Çré Yaçodä said: Your kind blessings bring me great happiness. May you always be very fortunate.

yatheñöaà hépsitaà kuru


he rohiëi—O Rohiëé; mahä—very; buddhe—intelligent; püjanam—worship; tu—indeed; vraja-okasäm—of the people of Vraja; ägatänäm—arrived; sat-kulänäm—of good families; yathä—as; iñöam—desired; hi—indeed; épsitam—desire; kuru—please fulfill.


O very intelligent Rohiëé, please worship the noble people of Vraja who have come here. Please fulfill their desires.

çré-näradaù uväca—Çré Närada said; rohiëé—Rohiëé; räja—of a king; kanyä—the daughter; api—even; tat—that; karau—hands; däna-çélinau—generous; tatra—there; api—also; noditä—sent; däne—charity; dadau—gave; ati-mahä-manäù—very noble-hearted.


Çré Närada said: Even though she was a princess, when asked in this way noble-hearted Rohiëé gave charity with two generous hands.

ratnäbharaëa-bhüñitä

vyacarad rohiëé säkñät

püjayanté vrajaukasaù


garua—fair; varëä—color; divya—glistening; väsä—garments; ratna—jewel; äbharaëa—ornaments; bhüñitä—decorated; vyacarat—did; rohiëé—Rohiëé; säkñät—directly; püjayanté—worshiping; vraja-okasaù—the people of Vraja.


Then fair-complexioned, splendidly dressed, jewel decorated Rohiëé worshiped the people of Vraja.

paripürëatame säkñäc

chré-kåñëe vrajam ägate

nadatsu nara-türyeñu

jaya-dhvanir abhün mahän


paripürëatame—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; säkñät—directly; çré-kåñëe—Çré Kåñëa; vrajam—to Vraja; ägate—came; nadatsu—sounding; nara-türyeñu—the four kinds of men; jaya—of victory; dhvaniù—sound; abhüt—became; mahän—great.


When Çré Kåñëa, the original Supreme Personality of Godhead, came to Vraja Village, many türyas sounded and a great cry of "Victory!" rose up.

dadhi-kñéra-ghåtair gopä

gopyo haiyaìgavair navaiù

çiçicur harñitäs tatra

jagur uccaiù parasparam


dadhi—with yogurt; kñéra—milk; ghåtaiù—and ghee; gopäù—the gopas; gopyaù—gopés; haiyaìgavair navaiù—with fresh butter; çiçicuù—sprinkled; harñitäù—jubilant; tatra—there; jaguù—sang; uccaiù—loudly; parasparam—together.


Then the happy gopas and gopés sprinkled each other with fresh butter and loudly sang.

bahir antaù-pure jäte

sarvato dadhi-kardame

våddhäç ca sthüla-dehäç ca

petur häsyaà kåtaà paraiù


bahiù—outside; antaù-pure—inside their homes; jäte—created; sarvataù—completely; dadhi—with yogurt; kardame—mud; våddhäù—elder; ca—and; sthüla—large; dehäù—bodies; ca—also; petuù—fell; häsyam—laughter; kåtam—done; paraiù—by the others.


When a large elder gopa fell in the yogurt-mud that was everywhere, inside and outside the homes, the others laughed.

mägadhä vaàsa-saàçakäù

vandinas tv amala-prajïäù

prastäva-sadåçoktayaù


sütäù—the sütas; pauraëikäù—the pauraëikas; proktäù—said; mägadhäù—the mägadhas; vaàça- saàçakäù—the reciters of genealogies; vandinaù—the vandis; tu—also; amala—pure; prajïäù—children; prastava—prayers; sadåça—like that; uktayaù—words.


Then many intelligent and pure sütas, pauräëikas, mägadhas, vaàça-çaàsakas, and vandés recited many prayers.

tebhyo nando mahä-räjo

sahasraà gäù påthak påthak

vaso-'laìkära-ratnäni

hayebhän akhilän dadau


tebhyaù—to them; nandaù—Nanda; mahä-räjaù—the great king; sahasram—a thousand; gäù—cows; påthak påthak—to each; vasaù—garments; alaìkära—ornaments; ratnäni—jewels; haya—horses; ibhän—and elephants; akhilän—all; dadau—gave.


To each one Nanda Mahäräja gave a thousand cows and many garments, ornaments, jewels, horses, and elephants.

vandibhyo mägadhebhyaç ca

sarvebhyo bahulaà dhanam

vavarña dhanavad-gopo

nanda-räjo vrajeçvaraù


vandibhyaù—to the vandis; mägadhebhyaù—to the magadhas; ca—and; sarvebhyaù—to everyone; bahulam—abundant; dhanam—wealth; vavarña—showered; dhanavat—wealthy; gopaù—gopa; nanda-räjaù—King Nanda; vrajeçvaraù—the ruler of Vraja.


King Nanda, the wealthy gopa ruler of Vraja, showered great wealth on the vandés, mägadhas, and everyone else.

nidhiù siddhiç ca våddhiç ca

bhuktir muktir gåhe gåhe

véthyäà véthyäà luöhantéva

tad-icchä kasyacin na hi


nidhiù—wealth; siddhiù—mystic perfection; ca—and; våddhiù—glory; ca—and; bhuktiù—sense gratification; muktiù—liberation; gåhe gåhe—at every home; véthyäà véthyäm—on every pathway; luöhanti—roll on the ground; iva—as if; tad-icchä—the desire; kasyacin—of someone; na—not; hi—indeed.


Wealth, mystic powers, glory, sense gratification, and liberation rolled about on the ground in every home and on every pathway. No one had any desires left to be fulfilled.

sanat-kumära-kapila-çuka-vyäsädibhiù—headed by Sanat-kumära, Kapila, Çuka, and Vyäsa; saha—with; haàsa-datta-pulastyädyaiù—those headed by Haàsa, Datta, and Pulastya; mayä—with me; brahma—Brahmä; jagäma ha—went.


Then, accompanied by me and by the great sages headed by Sanat-kumära, Kapila, Çukadeva, Vyäsa, Haàsa, Datta, and Pulastya, the demigod Brahmä went there.

mukuöé kuëòalé sphuran

catur-mukho veda-kartä

dyotayan maëòalaà diçam


haàsa—on a swan; ärüòhaù—riding; hema-varëaù—golden color; mukuöé—wearing a crown; kuëòalé—wearing earrings; sphuran—splendid; catur-mukhaù—with four faces; veda—of the Vedas; kartä—the author; dyotayan—illuminating; maëòalaà diçam—the directions.


Wearing a crown and earings, his complexion the color of gold, and filling the directions with light, four-faced Brahmä, the author of the Vedas, came, riding on a swan.

våñärüòho maheçvaraù

rathärüòho raviù säkñäd

gajärüòhaù purandaraù


tathä—so; tam—him; anu—after; bhüta—by ghosts and demons; äòhyaù—accompanied; våña-ärüòhaù—riding on a bull; maheçvaraù—Lord Çiva; ratha-ärüòhaù—riding on a chariot; raviù—the sun-god; säkñät—directly; gaja-ärüòhaù—riding on an elephant; purandaraù—Indra.


Accompanied by many ghosts and demons, Lord Çiva came, riding on a bull. The sun-god came riding on a chariot. Indra came riding on an elephant.

väyuç ca khaïjanärüòho

yamo mahiña-vähanaù

dhanadaù puñpakärüòho

mågärüòho kñapeçvaraù


väyuù—Väyus; ca—also; khaïjana-ärüòhaù—riding on a khanjana bird; yamaù—Yama; mahiña-vähanaù—riding on a buffalo; dhanadaù—Kuvera; puñpaka-ärüòhaù—riding on a flower chariot; måga-ärüòhaù—riding on a deer; kñapeçvaraù—the moon-god.


Väyu came riding on a khaïjana bird. Yamaräja came riding on a buffalo. Kuvera came riding on a flower chariot. The moon-god came riding on a deer.

Agni came riding on a ram. Varuëa came riding on a shark. Kärttikeya came riding on a peacock. Sarasvaté came riding on a swan.

vimäna-sthä samäyayau


lakñméù—Lakñmé; ca—and; garuòa-ärüòhä—riding on Garuòa; durgä-äkhyä—Durgä; siàha-vähiné—riding on a lion; go-rüpa-dhäriëé—manifesting the form of a cow; påthvé—the earth-goddess; vimäna-sthä—riding in a airplane; samäyayau—came.


Lakñmé came riding on Garuòa. Durgä came riding on a lion. Manifesting the form of a cow, the earth-goddess came riding in an airplane.

dola-ärüòhäù—riding in a swing; divya—splendid; varëäù—colors; mukhyäù—the most important; ñoòaça-mätåikäù—the sixteen Mätåikäs; ñañöhé—Ñañöhé; ca—also; çibika-ärüòhä—riding on a palanquin; khaòginé—holding a sword; yañöi-dhäriëé—holding a stick.


The sixteen Mätåkäs came riding on a swing, and Goddess Ñañthé, holding a sword and club, came riding on a palanquin.

bhäsärüòho budhaù småtaù

géñpatiù kåñëasära-sthaù

çukro gavaya-vähanaù


maìgalaù—the ruler of the planet mars; vänara-ärüòhaù—riding on a gorilla; bhäsa-ärüòhaù—riding on a rooster; budhaù—the ruler of the planet mercury; småtaù—considered; géñpatiù—the ruler of the planet jupiter; kåñëasära-sthaù—riding on a black-deer; çukraù—the ruler of the planet Venus; gavaya-vähanaù—riding on an ox.


The ruler of the planet Mars came riding on a gorilla. The ruler of the planet Mercury came riding on a rooster. The ruler of the planet Jupiter came riding on a black stag. The ruler of the planet Venus came riding on an ox.

uñöra-sthaù siàhika-sutaù

koöi-bälärka-saìkäça

äyayau nanda-mandiram


çaniù—the ruler of the planet Saturn; ca—also; makara-ärüòhaù—riding on a shark; uñöra-sthaù—riding on a camel; siàhikä-sutaù—the ruler of the planet Rahu; koöi—millions; bälärka—of rising suns; saìkäçäù—splendid; äyayau—they came; nanda—of Nanda; mandiram—to the palace.


The ruler of the planet Saturn came riding on a shark. The ruler of the planet Rähu came riding on a camel. Splendid as millions of suns, they came to Nanda's palace.

kolähala-samäyuktaà

gopa-gopé-gaëäkulam

nanda-mandiram abhyetya

kñaëaà sthitvä yayuù suräù


kolähala—with a tumult; samäyuktam—endowed; gopa—of gopas; gopé—and gopés; gaëa—with multitudes; äkulam—filled; nanda-mandiram—Nanda's palace; abhyetya—attaining; kñaëam—for a moment; sthitvä—standing; yayuù—went; suräù—the dmeigods.


Finally coming to Nanda's palace, which was filled with many gopas and gopés making a great tumult, the demigods paused for a moment, and then entered.

paripürëatamaà säkñäc

chré-kåñëaà bäla-rüpiëam

natvä dåñövä tadä deväs

cakrus tasya stutià paräm


paripürëatamam—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; säkñät—directly; çré-kåñëam—Çré Kåñëa; bäla-rüpiëam—in the form of a child; natvä—offering obeisances; dåñövä—seeing; tadä—then; deväù—the demigods; cakruù—did; tasya—to Him; stutim—prayers; paräm—excellent.


After offering obeisances to Him and gazing at Him, the demigods offered many eloquent prayers to Çré Kåñëa who, although manifesting the form of a child, was the original Supreme Personality of Godhead.

vékñya kåñëaà tadä devä

brahmädyä åñibhiù saha

sva-dhämäni yayuù sarve

harñitäù prema-vihvaläù


vékñya—seeing; kåñëam—Lord Kåñëa; tadä—then; deväù—the demigods; brahmädyäù—headed by Brahmä; åñibhiù—the sages; saha—with; sva—own; dhämäni—to the abodes; yayuù—went; sarve—all; harñitäù—happy; prema—with love; vihvaläù—overcome.


After gazing at Lord Kåñëa, Brahmä and the demigods and sages, now very happy and overwhelmed with feelings of love, went to their own abodes.
