Description of the Yamunä's Arrival

çré-sannanda uväca
goloke hariëäjïäptä
kälindé saritäà varä
kåñëaà pradakñiëé-kåtya
gantum abhyudyatäbhavat
çré-sannandaù uväca—Çré Sannanda said; goloke—in
Goloka; hariëä—by Lord Hari; jïäptä—informed; kälindé—Yamunä; saritäm—of
rivers; varä—the best; kåñëam—Lord Kåñëa;
pradakñiné-kåtya—circumambulating; gantum—to go;
abhyudyata—about; abhavat—became.
Çré Sannanda said: Ordered by Lord Kåñëa in Goloka, Yamunä,
the best of rivers, circumambulated the Lord and was about to go
(to the earth).

tadaiva virajä säkñad
gaìgä brahma-dravodbhavä
dve nadyau yamunäyäà tu
sampraléne babhüvatuù
tadä—then; eva—certainly; virajä—Viraja;
säkñat—directly; gaìgä—the Ganges; brahma-
dravodbhavä—spiritual river; dve—two;
nadyau—rivers; yamunäyäm—in the yamuna; tu—indeed; sampraléne—merged; babhüvatuù—became.
Then the Virajä river and the spiritual Gaìgä river both
entered the Yamunä.

paripürëatamäà kåñëäà
tasmät kåñëasya nanda-räö
paripürëatamasyäpi
patta-räjïià vidur janäù
paripürëatamam—the supreme; kåñëam—the Yamunä;
tasmät—from that; kåñëasya—of Kåñëa; nanda-räö—King
Nanda; paripürëatamasya—of the Supreme Personality of
Godhead; api—even; paööaräjïim—the most
important queen; viduù—know; janäù—the people.
O king Nanda, for this reason the people know that the
Yamunä is the greatest of rivers and the first queen of Lord
Kåñëa.

tato vegena mahatä
kälindé saritäà varä
bibheda virajä-vegaà
nikuïja-dvära-nirgatä
tataù—then; vegena—with power; mahatä—great; kälindé—the Yamunä; saritäm—of rivers; varä—the
best; bibheda—broke; virajä-vegam—the current of the
Virajä; nikuïja—of a forest grove; dvära—to
the gate; nirgatä—gone.
Then, with great force breaking through the current of the
Virajä, the Yamunä left the gate of the transcendental forest
grove.

asaìkhya-brahmäëòa-cayaà
spåñövä brahma-dravaà gatä
bhindanti taj-jalaà dérghaà
sva-vegena mahä-nadé
asaìkhya-brahmäëòa-cayam—countless universes;
spåñövä—touching; brahma-dravam—the spiritual river;
gatä—gone; bhindanti—breaking; taj-jalam—that
water; dérgham—long; sva-vegena—by its own power; mahä-nadé—great river.
Touching countless universes, she came to the spiritual
Gaìgä. With great force the great Yamunä river broke through the
Gaìgä's waters.

väma-pädäìguñöha-nakha-
bhinna-brahmäëòa-mastake
çré-vämanasya vivare
brahma-drava-samäkule
vama—left; pädäìguñöha—toe; nakha—nail;
bhinna—broken; brahmäëòa—of the universe; mastake—on
the head; çré-vämanasya—of Lord Vämana; vivare—in the
opening; brahma-drava-samäkule—through which the spiritual
Gaìgä flowed.
Then the Yamunä came to an opening Lord Vämana's left toe
had made in the top of a universe, an opening through which the
spiritual Gaìgä flowed.
Text 7
tasmin çré-gaìgayä särdhaà
praviñöäbhüt sarid-varä
vaikuëöhaà cäjita-padaà
sampräpya dhruva-maëòale
tasmin—in that place; çré-gaìgayä—Çré Gaìga;
särdham—with; praviñöä abhüt—endered; sarid-varä—the
best of rivers; vaikuëöham—Vaikuntha; ca—amd;
ajita—of the unconquerable; padam—the abode;
sampräpya—attaining; dhruva—of Dhruva; maëòale—in the
realm.
With Çré Gaìgä entering that opening, the Yamunä, the best
of rivers, then came to the unconquerable Lord's abode of
Vaikuëöha in the planet of Mahäräja Dhruva.

brahmalokam abhivyäpya
patanti brahma-maëòalät
tataù suräëäà çataço
lokäl lokaà jagäma ha
brahmalokam—Brahmaloka; abhivyäpya—attaining;
patanti—falling; brahma-maëòalät—from the planet of
Brahma; tataù—then; suräëäm—of the demigods;
çataçaù—hundreds; lokäl—from planet; lokam—to
planet; jagäma—went; ha—indeed.
Then the Yamunä came to Brahmaloka. Falling from Brahmä's
planet, she went to the hundreds of planets of the demigods. She
went from one planet to another.

tataù papäta vegena
sumeru-giri-mürdhani
giri-küöän atikramya
bhittvä gaëòa-çilä-taöän
tataù—then; papäta—fell; vegena—with great
force; sumeru-giri-mürdhäni—on top of Mount Sumeru;
giri-küöän—the mountain peaks; atikramya—passing;
bhittvä—breaking; gaëòa-çilä-taöän—the stone face of the
mountain.
Then with great force she fell on Mount Sumeru. Flowing from
its peaks, she broke the stones on its slope.

gantum abhyuditäbhavät
tataù çré-yamunä säkñäc
chré-gaìgäyäà vinirgatä
sumeroù—from Sumeru; dakñiëa-diçam—to the south;
gantum—to go; abhyuditä abhavät—began; tataù—then; çré-yamunä—Çré Yamunä; säkñät—directly; çré-
gaìgäyäm—in Çré Gaìgä; vinirgatä—left.
Then, in order to go south from Mount Sumeru, Çré Yamunä
left Çré Gaìgä's path.

gaìgä tu prayayau çailaà
himavantaà mahä-nadé
kåñëä tu prayayau çailaà
kälindaà präpya sa tadä
gaìgä—the Gaìgä; tu—indeed; prayayau—went;
çailam—to the mountains; himavantam—Himalaya; mahä-
nadé—the great river; kåñëa—Yamunä; tu—indeed;
prayayau—went; çailam—to mount; kalindam—kalinda; präpya—attaining; sa—she; tadä—then.
Then the Gaìgä went to Mount Himavat and the great river
Yamunä went to Mount Kalinda.

kälindé—the daughter of Kalinda; iti—thus;
samäkhyatä—named; kalinda—from Kalinda;
prabhavä—born; yadä—when; kälinda-giri—of Mount
Kalinda; sänünäm—of the peaks; gaëòa-çaila-taöän—the
slopes with stones; dådhän—firm;
bhittvä—breaking; luöhanti—moving on the ground; bhü-
khaëòe—on the earth; kåñëa—the Yamunä;
vegavaté——powerful; saté—sacred; deçän—the
countries; punanti—purifying; kälindé—the Yamunä; präptä—attained; vai—indeed; khäëòave vane—the
Khandava forest.
Because she is thus Mount Kalinda's daughter, she is named
Kälindé. Flowing from Mount Kalinda's peaks, and breaking the
hard rocks on his slopes, the sacred Kälindé swiftly flowed on
the earth, purifying the countries she passed. Then she entered
the Khäëòava forest.

paripürëatamaà säkñac
chré-kåñëaà varam icchanté
dhåtvä vapuù paraà divyaà
tapas tepe kalindajä
paripürëatamam—the Supreme Personality of Godhead;
säkñac—directly; chré-kåñëam—Çré Kåñëa; varam—as her
husband; icchanti—wishing; dhåtvä—manifesting;
vapuù—a form; param—then; divyam—transcendental; tapaù—austerity; tepe—performed; kalindajä—the
Yamunä.
Wishing to attain Lord Kåñëa, the Original Supreme
Personality of Godhead, as her husband, the Kälindé assumed a
splendid spiritual form and performed great austerities.

piträ vinirmite gehe
jale 'dyäpi samäçritä
tato vegena kälindé
präptäbhüd vraja-maëòale
piträ—by her father; vinirmite—made; gehe—in a
house; jale—in the water; adya—today;
api—even; samäçritä—sheltered; tataù—then;
vegena—with force; kälindé—the Kalindi; präptä
abhüt—attained; vraja-maëòale—Vraja-maëòala.
Even today she stays in a water-house her father made for
her. Then the Kälindé swiftly entered Vraja-maëòala.

våndävana-samépe ca
mathurä-nikaöe çubhe
çré-mahävana-pärçve cä
saikate ramaëa-sthale
våndävana—Våndävana; samépe—near; ca—and;
mathurä—Mathura; nikaöe—near; çubhe—beautiful;
çré-mahävana—of Çré Mahavana; pärçve—by the side;
ca—and; sä—she; ekate—secluded;
ramaëa—beautiful; sthale—in a place.
Then she flowed through Våndävana, beautiful Mathurä, and
beautiful secluded Mahävana.

çré-goloke ca yamunä
yuthé-bhütväti-sundaré
çré-kåñëacandra-räsärthaà
nija-väsaà cakära ha
çré-goloke—on Çré Goloka; ca—and;
yamunä—Yamunä; yuthé-bhütvä—becoming a leader of many
gopés; ati—very; sundaré—beautiful; çré-
kåñëacandra—of Lord Kåñëacandra; räsa—the rasa dance;
artham—for the purpose; nija—own; väsam—home;
cakära—did; ha—indeed.
As the very beautiful leader of many gopés, Çré Yamunä made
her home in Çré Goloka to perform the räsa dance with Çré
Kåñëacandra.

atho vrajäd vrajanté sä
vraja-vikñepa-vihvalä
premänandäçru-samyuktä
bhütvä paçcima-vähiné
athaù—then; vrajät—from Vraja;
vrajanti—going; sä—she; vraja—of Vraja;
vikñepa—leaving; vihvalä—overwhelmed; prema—of
love; änanda—of bliss; açru—with tears;
samyuktä—endowed; bhütvä—becoming; paçcima—west; vähiné—flowing.
As she left Vraja she became overwhelmed by feelings of
separation. Filled with tears of bliss and love, she turned west
(and returned to Vraja).

tatas tri-varaà vegenä
natvätho vraja-maëòale
deçän punanté prayayau
prayägaà tértha-sattamam
tataù—then; tri-varam—three times;
vegenä—quickly; natvä—bowing down; athaù—then;
vraja-maëòale—in Vraja-mandala; deçän—to coutnries;
punanti—purifying; prayayau—went; prayägam—to
Prayag; tértha-sattamam—the best of holy places.
Then, bowing three times to Vraja-maëòala, she went to very
holy Prayäga, purifying the countries she passed.
Text 20
punaù çré-gaìgayä särdhaà
kñéräbdhià sa jagäma ha
deväù suvarñaà puñpänäà
cakrur divi jaya-dhvanim
punaù—again; çré-gaìgayä—Çré Gaìgä;
särdham—with; kñéräbdhim—to the milk-ocean;
sa—she; jagäma—went; ha—indeed; devaù—the
demigods; suvarñam—a shower; puñpänäm—of flowers; cakruù—did; divi—in heaven; jaya-dhvanim—sounds of
"victory!".
When, flowing with Çré Gaìgä, she entered the Kñéra ocean,
the demigods in heaven showered flowers and exclaimed
victory!"

kåñëä çré-yamunä säkñät
kälindé saritäà varä
samudram etya çré-gaìgäà
präha gadgadayä girä
kåñëä—dark; çré-yamunä—Çré Yamunä;
säkñät—directly; kälindé—the daughter of Mount Kalinda; saritäm—of rivers; varä—the best; samudram—to the
ocean; etya—going; çré-gaìgäm—to Çré Gaìgä;
präha—said; gadgadayä—choked with emotion; girä—with
words.
When dark Çré Yamunä, who was the best of rivers and the
daughter of Mount Kalinda, entered the ocean, she spoke to Çré
Gaìgä with words choked with emotion.

he gaìge tvaà tu dhanyäsi
sarva-brahmäëòa-pävané
kåñëa-pädäbja-sambhütä
sarva-lokaika-vanditä
çré-yamunä uväca—Çré Yamunä said; he—O;
gaìge—Gaìgä; tvam—you; tu—indeed;
dhanyä—fortunate; asi—are; sarva—all;
brahmäëòa—universes; pävané—purifying; kåñëa—of Lord
Kåñëa; pädäbja—from the lotus feet;
sambhütä—born; sarva—by all; loka—people;
eka—alone; vanditä—offered respects.
Çré Yamunä said: O Gaìgä, you are fortunate. You purify all
the universes. You were born from Lord Kåñëa's lotus foot.
Everyone bows down before you alone.
Text 23
ürdhvaà yämi harer lokaà
gaccha tvam api he çubhe
tvat-samänaà hi divyaà ca
na bhütaà na bhaviñyati
ürdhvam—up; yämi—I go; hareù—of Lord Hari;
lokam—to the world; gaccha—go; tvam—you;
api—also; he—O; çubhe—beautiful one; tvat—to
you; samänam—equal; hi—indeed;
divyam—glorious; ca—and; na—not; bhütam—was; na—not; bhaviñyati—will be.
Now I will ascend to Lord Hari's abode. O beautiful one, you
come also. There never was, nor will there ever be, anyone as
glorious as you.

çré-gaìgoväca
sarva-tértha-mayé gaìgä
tasmät tväà praëamämy ahaà
yat kiïcid vä prakathitaà
tat kñamasva su-maìgale
çré-gaìgä uväca—Çré gaìgä said; sarva-tértha-
mayé—consisting of all holy places; gaìgä—Gaìgä;
tasmät—therefore; tvam—you; praëamämi—bow down;
aham—I; yat—what; kiïcit—something;
vä—or; prakathitam—said; tat—that;
kñamasva—please forgive; su-maìgale—O auspicious one.
Çré Gaìgä said: I, the Gaìgä, who contain all holy places,
bow down before you. O auspicious one, please forgive any
improper words I may have said.

he kåñëe tvaà tu dhanyäsi
sarva-brahmäëòa-pävané
kåñëa-vamäàsa-sambhütä
paramänanda-rüpiëé
he—O; kåñëe—dark yamunä; tvam—you;
tu—indeed; dhanyä—fortunate; asi—are;
sarva—all; brahmäëòa—universes; pävané—purifying; kåñëa—of Lord Kåñëa; väma—left; äàsa—from the
shoulder; sambhütä—born; parama—transcendental; änanda—bliss; rüpiëé—the form.
O dark Yamunä, you are the fortunate one. You purify all the
universes. You were born from Lord Kåñëa's left shoulder. Your
form is full of transcendental bliss.

paripürëatamä säkñät
sarva-lokaika-vanditä
paripürëatamasyäpi
çré-kåñëasya mahätmanaù
paripürëatamä—most perfect; säkñät—directly;
sarva-lokaika-vanditä—offered respect by all;
paripürëatamasya—of the Supreme Personality of Godhead;
api—also; çré-kåñëasya—of Çré Kåñëa; mahätmanaù—the
great one.
You are most perfect and complete. You are worshiped by all.
You are dear to Çré Kåñëa, the great Supreme Personality of
Godhead.

paööa-räjïià paraà kåñëe
kåñëaà tväà praëamämy aham
térthair devair durlabhaà tvaà
goloke 'pi ca durghaöä
paööa-räjïià paräm—the most important queen;
kåñëe—O dark one; kåñëam—to the dark one;
tvam—you; praëamämi—bow down; aham—I;
térthaiù—with holy places; devaiù—with demigods;
durlabham—difficult to attain; tvam—you; goloke—in
Goloka; api—even; ca—and; durghaöä—difficult to
attain.
O dark Yamunä, I bow down to you, the first queen of Lord
Kåñëa. The holy places and demigods find it difficult to attain
you. Even in Goloka it is difficult to attain you.
Text 28
ahaà yäsyämi pätälaà
çré-kåñëasyäjïayä çubhe
tvad-viyogäturähaà vai
yänaà kartuà na ca kñamä
aham—I; yäsyämi—will go; pätälam—to
Patalaloka; çré-kåñëasya—of Çré Kåñëa; äjïayä—by the order; çubhe—O beautiful one; tvat—from
you; viyoga—by separation; aturä—afflicted;
aham—I; vai—indeed; yänam—journey; kartum—to
make; na—not; ca—and; kñamä—able.
By Lord Kåñëa's order I must go to Pätälaloka now. I am
unhappy to leave you, but I cannot go with you.
Text 29
yüthé-bhütvä bhaviñyämi
çré-vraje räsa-maëòale
yat kiïcin me prakathitaà
tat kñamasva hari-priye
yüthé—a leader of many gopés; bhütvä—having become; bhaviñyämi—I will be; çré-vraje—in Çré Vraja;
räsa-maëòale—in the circle of the räsa dance; yat—what; kiïcit—something; me—of me;
prakathitam—said; tat—that; kñamasva—please forgive; hari-priye—O beloved of Lord Hari.
I will become a leader of many gopés in the räsa-dance
circle in Çré Vraja. O beloved of Lord Hari, please forgive any
improper words I may have said.

çré-sannanda uväca
itthaà parasparaà natvä
dve nadyau yayatur drutaà
lokän pavitré-kurvanté
pätäle svaù-sarid gatä
çré-sannandaù uväca—Çré Sannanda said; ittham—thus; parasparam—to each other; natvä—bowing down;
dve—two; nadyau—rivers; yayatuù—-went;
drutam—quickly; lokän—to the planets; pavitré-
kurvanti—purifying; pätäle—to Patala; svaù-sarit—the
heavenly Gaìgä; gatä—went.
Çré Sannanda said: Bowing down before each other, the two
rivers then quickly went their respective ways. The heavenly
Gaìgä went to Pätälaloka, purifying the planets as she passed.
Text 31
säpi bhogavaté-nämnä
babhau bhogavaté-vane
yaj-jalaà sa-trinayanaù
çeño mürdhnä bibharti ha
sä—she; api—also; bhogavaté-nämnä—by the name
Bhagavaté; babhau—is manifested; bhogavaté-vane—in
Bhogavaté forest; yaj-jalam—the water of ehom; sa-
trinayanaù—with Lord Çiva; çeñaù—Lord Çeña; mürdhnä—on
His head; bibharti—carries; ha—certainly.
There she is named Bhogavaté, for she flows through the
Bhogavaté forest. Lord Çeña and Lord Çiva carry her water on
Their heads.

atha kåñëä sva-vegena
bhittvä saptäbdhi-maëòalam
säpta-dvépa-mahé-påñöhe
luöhanti vegavat tarä
atha—then; kåñëä—the Yamunä; sva-
vegena—quickly; bhittvä—breaking; saptäbdhi-
maëòalam—the seven oceans; sapta-dvépa-mahé-påñöhe—on the
seven continents; luöhanti—moving;
vegavattarä—quickly.
Quickly traversing the seven oceans, the dark Yamunä quickly
flowed through the world of seven islands.

gatvä svarëamayéà bhümià
lokälokäcalaà gatä
tat-sänu-gaëòa-çailänäà
taöaà bhittvä kälindajä
gatvä—coming; svarëamayém—golden; bhümim—to the
land; lokalokäcalam—Mount Lokaloka; gatä—gone;
tat-sänu—on its peaks; gaëòa-çailänäm—of rocks;
taöam—slope; bhittvä—breaking; kälindajä—the Yamunä.
Then the Yamunä flowed to the golden land and then Mount
Lokäloka where, flowing from its peaks, she broke the rocks on
its slopes.

tan-mürdhni cotpapätäçu
sphäravaj-jala-dhärayä
udgacchanti tad-ürdhvaà sä
yayau svargaà tu näkinäm
tan-mürdhni—on its head; ca—also;
utpapäta—rose; äçu—quickly; sphäravaj-jala-dhärayä—a
great stream of water; udgacchanti—rising; tad-
ürdhvam—above that; sä—she; yayau—went;
svargam—to Svargaloka; tu—indeed; näkinäm—of the
heavenly planets.
Then she rose again to its peaks and, with a great stream of
water, rose to Svargaloka in the heavenly worlds.

ä-brahmalokaà lokäàs tän
abhivyäpya hareù padam
brahmäëòa-randhraà çré-brahma-
drava-yuktaà sametya sä
ä-brahmalokam—up to Brahmaloka; lokän—the planets; tän—them; abhivyäpya—passing; hareù—of Lord
Hari; padam—to the abode; brahmäëòa—of universe; randhraàthe opening; çré-brahma-drava-yuktam—with the
Gaìgä; sametya—meeting; sä—she.
She passed through the planets on the way to Brahmaloka and,
meeting the Gaìgä at the opening in the universe, went to Lord
Hari's abode.
Text 36
puñpa-varñaà pravarñatsu
deveñu praëateñu ca
punaù çré-kåñëa-golokaà
äruroha sarid-varä
puñpa—of flowers; varñam—a shower;
pravarñatsu—showering; deveñu—as the demigods;
praëateñu—bowing down; ca—and; punaù—again;
çré-kåñëa-golokam—to Çré Kåñëa's Goloka;
äruroha—ascended; sarid-varäthe best of rivers.
As the demigods showered flowers and bowed down to offer
respects, Çré Yamunä, the best of rivers, returned to Çré Kåñëa's
abode of Goloka.

kälinda-giri-nandiné-nava-caritram etac chubhaà
çrutaà ca yadi paöhitaà bhuvi tanoti sanmaìgalam
jano 'pi yadi dhärayet kila paöhec ca yo nétyaçaù
sa yäti paramaà padaà nija-nikuïja-lélävåtam
kälinda-giri-nandiné—of the daughter of Mount Kalinda;
nava—new; caritram—pastimes; etat—this;
çubham—auspicious; çrutam—heard; ca—and;
yadi—if; paöhitam—read; bhuvi—on earth;
tanoti—gives; sanmaìgalam—auspiciousness; janaù—a
person; api—even; yadi—if; dhärayet—
remembers;kila paöhec—reads; ca—or;
yaù—who; nétyaçaù—regularly; sa—he;
yäti—goes; paramam—to the supreme; padam—abode;
nija—own; nikuïja—forest groves; lélä—with
pastimes; ävåtam—filled.
If a person in this world hears or reads this auspicious and
ever-new pastime of Mount Kalinda's daughter Yamunä, he will
attain great auspiciousness. If one regularly reads or remembers
this pastime, he will attain the transcendental forest groves
where the Supreme Lord enjoys His pastimes.
