The Räsa-dance Pastime

Text 1

çré-närada uväca

atha kåñëa-guëän ramyän

sametäù sarva-yoñitaù

Çré Närada said: Then, to attract Kåñëa there, all the girls came together and, sweetly playing the karatälas, sang songs about the beautiful virtues of Kåñëa.

lokäbhiräma jana-bhüñaëa viçva-dépa

kandarpa-mohana jagad-våjinärti-härin

The gopés said: O delight of the worlds, O decoration of the people, O lamp of the universe, O Lord more charming than Kämadeva, O Lord who removes the sufferings sins bring to the worlds, O root of bliss, O delight of the Yadus, O son of Nanda, O independent Lord, O Lord sweeter than honey from the lotus, obeisances, obeisances to You!

go-vipra-sädhu-vijaya-dhvaja deva-vandya

kaàsädi-daitya-vadha-hetu-kåtävatära

çré-nanda-räja-kula-padma-dineça deva

devädi-mukta-jana-darpaëa te jayo 'stu

gaù—cows; vipra—brähmaëas; sädhu—saints; vijaya—victory; dhvaja—flag; deva—by the demigods; vandya—honored; kaàsa—with Kaàsa; ädi—beginning; daitya—demons; vadha—killing; hetu—for the purpose; kåta—done; avatära—incarnation; çré-nanda-räja—of King Nanda; kula—of the family; padma—the lotus; dineça—O sun; deva—O Lord; devädi—beginning with the demigods; mukta-jana—the liberated souls; darpaëa—eye; te—to You; jayaù—glory; astu—may be.

O victory flag of the cows, brähmaëas, and saints, O Lord honored by the demigods, O Lord who descended to this world to kill the demons headed by Kaàsa, O sun who makes the lotus of King Nanda's family blossom wide, O eye of the demigods and the liberated souls, glories to You!

gopäla-sindhu-para-mauktikä-rüpa-dhärin

gopäla-vaàça-giri-néla-maëe parätman

gopäla-maëòala-sarovara-kaïja-mürte

gopäla-candana-vane kalahaàsa-mukhya

gopäla—of the gopas; sindhu—in the ocean; para—the supreme; mauktikä—pearl; rüpa—form; dhärin—manifesting; gopäla—of the gopas; vaàça—in the family; giri—mountain; néla-maëe—sapphire; parätman—O Supreme Soul; gopäla—of the gopas; maëòala—in the circle; sarovara—in the lake; ka 24ja—of a lotus; mürte—in the form; gopäla—of gopas; candana—sandal; vane—in the forest; kalahaàsa—swan; mukhya—O most important.

O supreme pearl in the ocean of the gopas, O sapphire in the mountain of the gopa dysnasty, O lotus in the lake of the gopas, O great swan in the sandal forest of the gopas, O Supreme Personality of Godhead!

çré-rädhikä-vadana-paìkaja-ñaöpadas tvaà

çré-rädhikä-vadana-candra-cakora-rüpaù

çré-rädhikä-hådaya-sundara-candra-hära-

çré-rädhikä-madhu-latä-kusumäkaro 'si

çré-rädhikä—of Çré Rädhä; vadana—face; paìkaja—lotus; ñaöpadaù—bee; tvam—You; çré-rädhikä—of Çré Rädhä; vadana—face; candra—moon; cakora—cakora bird; rüpaù—form; çré-rädhikä—of Çré Rädhä; hådaya—heart; sundara—hnadsome; candra—of canrakanti jewels; hära—necklace; çré-rädhikä—of Çré Rädhä; madhu-latä-kusumäkaraù—the form of a mädhavi flower; asi—You are.

You are a bumblebee drawn to the lotus of Çré Rädhä's face. You are a cakora bird drawn to the moon of Çré Rädhä's face. You are a necklace of candrakänti jewels over Çré Rädhä's heart. You are Çré Rädhä's mädhavé flower.

Text 6

yo räsa-raìga-nija-vaibhava-bhüri-lélo

yo gopikä-nayana-jévana-müla-häraù

mänaà cakära rahasä kila mänavatyäà

so 'yaà harir bhavatu no nayanägra-gämé

yaù—who; räsa—of the rasa dance; raìga—in the arena; nija—own; vaibhava—glory; bhüri—great; lélaù—whose pastimes; yaù—who; gopikä—of the gopés; nayana—for the eyes; jévana—the life; müla—the root; häraù—taking; mänam—pride; cakära—did; rahasä—in secret; kila—indeed; mänavatyäm—in a proud girl; saù ayam—He; hariù—Lord Kåñëa; bhavatu—may be; naù—of us; nayana—the eyes; agra—before; gämi—going.

May Lord Kåñëa, who enjoys glorious pastimes in the räsa dance arena, who brings life to the gopés' eyes, and who in a secret place roughly treated a girl filled with pride, appear before our eyes.

Text 7

yo gopikä-sakala-yütham alaïcakära

våndävanaà ca nija-päda-rajobhir adrim

yaù sarva-loka-vibhaväya babhüva bhümau

taà bhüri-léläm uragendra-bhujaà bhajämaù

yaù—who; gopikä-sakala-yütham—all the gopés; alaïcakära—decorated; våndävanam—Våndävana; ca—and; nija—own; päda—feet; rajobhiù—with the dust; adrim—a mountain; yaù—who; sarva—all; loka—worlds; vibhaväya—for the glory; babhüva—became; bhümau—on the earth; tam—that; bhüri-léläm—who enjoys many pastimes; uraga—of snakes; indra—king; bhujam—whose arms; bhajämaù—we worship.

We worship Lord Kåñëa, whose arms are two kings of serpents, who enjoys many pastimes, who came to the earth to show His glories to all the worlds, and who with the dust of His feet decorated Våndävana forest, Govardhana Hill, and all the gopés.

Text 8

candraà pratapta-kiraëa-jvalanaà prasannaà

sarvaà vanäntam asi-patra-vana-praveçam

bäëaà prabhaïjanam atéva su-manda-yänaà

manyämahe kila bhavantam åte vyathärtäù

candram—a moon; pratapta-kiraëa-jvalanam—briliant; prasannam—pleasing; sarvam—all; vana—forests; antam—end; asipatra—sugarcane; vana—forest; praveçam—entranbce; bäëam—arrow; prabha 24janam—breaking; atéva—great; su-manda-yänam—slowly traveling; manyämahe—we meditate; kila—indeed; bhavantam—on You; åte—without; vyathärtäù—being distressed.

Even when we are not filled with sorrow we meditate on You as a pleasing moon, a brilliant sun, a grove of sugarcane in the forest, a sharp arrow, and a gentle breeze.

Text 9

saudäsa-räja-mahiñé-virahäd atéva

jätaà sahasra-guëitaà nala-paööa-räjïäù

tasmät tu koöi-guëitaà janakätma-jäyäs

tasmäd anantam ati-duùkham alaà hare naù

saudäsa-räja—of King Saudäsa; mahiñé—of the queen; virahät—from separation; atéva—great; jätam—born; sahasra—a thousand times; guëitam—multiplied; nala—of Nala; paööa-räj 24äù—of the king; tasmät—from that; tu—indeed; koöi-guëitam—multiplied ten million times; janakätma—-jäyäù—of Janaka's daughter; tasmät—from that; anantam—limitless; ati-duùkham—great suffering; alam—great; hare—O Kåñëa; naù—of us.

O Kåñëa, our sorrow is a thousand times greater than King Saudäsa's queen felt away from her husband, ten million times greater than Nala's queen felt, and more without limit than King Janaka's daughter felt.

Text 10

çré-uddhavaù sakala-bhakta-çiro-maëéças

tat-päda-padma-vara-mukhy-adhikära-käré

tasmäd vayaà ca caraëau çaraëaà gatäù smaù

çréman kåpäà kuru çaraëya-pade saraëye

çré-uddhavaù—Çré Uddhava; sakala-bhakta-çiro-maëéçaù—the crest jewel of all devotees; tat-päda-padma—of Your lotus feet; vara—best; mukhy-adhikära-käré—most qualified; tasmät—from that; vayam—we; ca—and; caraëau—feet; çaraëam—shelter; gatäù—gone; smaù—have; çréman—O glorious one; kåpäm—mercy; kuru—do; çaraëya-pade— saraëye—shelter.

Çré Uddhava is the crest jewel of all the devotees. He is qualified to approach Your lotus feet. It is because of Him that we take shelter of Your feet. O glorious one, please be kind to us! Please give us shelter!

Text 11

çré-närada uväca

itthaà räjan rudanténäà

gopénäà kamalekñaëaù

svayam artham ivätmanaù

çré-närada uväca—Çré Närada said; ittham—thus; räjan—O king; rudanténäm—weeping; gopénäm—of the gopés; kamala—lotus; ékñaëaù—eyes; ävirbabhüva—became manifested; sahasä—suddenly; svayam—personally; artham—benefit; iva—as if; ätmanaù—of the self.

Çré Närada said: O king, as the gopés wept, lotus-eyed Kåñëa suddenly appeared, as if to fulfill their desire.

Texts 12 and 13

sphurat-kiréöa-keyüra-

kuëòaläìgada-bhüñaëam

snigdhämala-sugandhäòhya-

néla-kuïcita-kuntalam

ägataà vékñya yugapat

samuttasthur vräjäìganäù

tan-mäträëi ca yaà dåñövä

yathä jïänendriyäëi ca

sphurat—glittering; kiréöa—crown; keyüra—armlets; kuëòala—earrings; aìgada—bracelets; bhüñaëam—ornament; snigdha—glistening; amala—pure; sugandha—fragrant; aòhya—opulent; néla—black; ku 24cita—curly; kuntalam—hair; ägatam—come; vékñya—seeing; yugapat—at once; samuttasthuù—stood up; vräjäìganäù—the girls of Vraja; tan-mäträëi—the tan-matras; ca—and; yam—which; dåñövä—seeing; yathä—as; jïäna—knowledge; indriyäëi—senses; ca—and.

Seeing that Kåñëa, decorated with a glittering crown, armlets, earrings, bracelets, and His handsome glistening black curly hair very glorious, had come, the gopés at once stood up, as the senses stand up when they see the sense-objects.

harir nanarta tan-madhye

vaàçé-vädana-tat-paraù

rädhayä sahito räjan

yathä ratyä ratéçvaraù

hariù—Lor5d k; nanarta—danced; tan-madhye—in their midst; vaàçé-vädana-tat-paraù—playing the flute; rädhayä—with Rädhä; sahitaù—with; räjan—O king; yathä—as; ratyä—with Rati; ratéçvaraù—Kämadeva.

Playing the flute in their midst, Lord Kåñëa danced with Rädhä as Kämadeva dances with Rati.

Text 15

yävatér gopikäù sarväs

tävad rüpa-dharo hariù

gacchaàs täbhir vraje reme

svävasthäbhir mano yathä

yävatéù—as many; gopikäù—gopés; sarväù—a;;; tävat—that many; rüpa-dharaù—manifesting forms; hariù—Kåñëa; gacchaàù—going; täbhiù—with them; vraje—in Vraja; reme—enjoyed; svävasthäbhiù—as they were; manaù—in the heart; yathä—as.

Then Lord Kåñëa expanded Himself into as many forms as there were gopés. Going among them, He enjoyed with them to their heart's content.

Text 16

vanoddeçe sthitaà kåñëaà

gata-duùkhä vräjäìganäù

kåtäïjalé-puöä ücur

girä gadgadayä harià

vana-uddeçe—in the forest; sthitam—situated; kåñëam—to Kåñëa; gata-duùkhä—their sorrows gone; vräjäìganäù—the girls of Vraja; kåtäïjalé-puöä—with folded hands; ücuù—said; girä—with words; gadgadayä—faltering; harim—to Lord Kåñëa.

Their sorrows gone, the girls of Vraja approached Kåñëa in the forest and with folded hands and faltering words spoke to Him.

Text 17

çré-gopya ücuù

kva gatas tvaà vada hare

tyaktvä gopé-gaëo mahän

sarvaà jagat tåëé-kåtya

tvat-pade präpta-mänasam

çré-gopyaù ücuù—the gopés said; kva—where?; gataù—gone; tvam—You; vada—tell; hare—O Kåñëa; tyaktvä—leaving; gopé-gaëaù—the gopés; mahän—great; sarvam—all; jagat—the universe; tåëé-kåtya—making into a blade of grass; tvat-pade—at Your feet; präpta—attained; mänasam—heart.

The gopés said: O Kåñëa, when You left us gopés the whole world became for us as important as a single blade of grass. Now we have again attained out heart's desire at Your feet. While You were gone where did You go? Please tell us.

çré-bhagavän uväca

he gopyaù puñkara-dvépe

haàso näma mahä-muniù

samudre dadhi-mandode

tatäpäntar-gatas tapaù

çré-bhagavän uväca—The Supreme Personality of Godhead said; he—O; gopyaù—gopés; puñkara-dvépe—on Puñkara-dvépa; haàsaù—Haàsa; näma—named; mahä—great; muniù—sage; samudre—in the ocean; dadhi-mandode—of yogurt; tatäpa—performed austerities; antar-gataù——gone in; tapaù—austerities.

The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O gopés, on Puñkara-dvépa there is a great sage named Haàsa who performed austerities while submerged in the ocean of yogurt.

cakärähaitukéà bhaktià

mama dhyäna-paräyaëaù

vyatétaà tasya tapato

gopyo manvantara-dvayam

cakära—he did; ahaitukém—unmotivated; bhaktim—devotional service; mama—of Me; dhyäna—meditation; paräyaëaù—intent; vyatétam—passed; tasya—of him; tapataù—austerities; gopyaù—O gopés; manvantara-dvayam—two manvantaras.

O gopés, He spent two manvantaras meditating on Me in pure devotion.

Text 20

öam adyaivägrasan matsyo

yojanärdha-vapur dharaù

tan nirjagära pauëòus tu

matsya-rüpa-dharo 'suraù

tam—him; adya—now; eva—indeed; agrasat—swalloed; matsyaù—a fish; yojanärdha-vapuù—four miles long; dharaù—holding; tat—that; nirjagära—swallowed; pauëòuù—white; tu—indeed; matsya-rüpa-dharaù—manifesting the form of a fish; asuraù—a demon.

Today a four-mile-long fish swallowed him. Then a demon in the form of an even larger white fish swallowed that fish.

evam—thus; sampräpta—attained; kañöasya—catastrophe; haàsasyäpi—of Haàsa; muneù—Muni; aham—I; gatvä—going; atha—then; çéghreëawith a very long; tayoù—of them both; çiraù—the head; chittvä—cutting; ariëä—with a sword; munim—the sage; mocayitvä—liberating; atha—then; gatavän—went; çvetadvépe—to Çvetadvépa; vrajäìganäù—O gopés; kñéräbdhau—on the milk-ocean; çeña—of Çeña; paryaìke—on the couch; çayanam—resting; tu—indeed; mayä—by Me; kåtam—done.

With a very great knife I cut the heads of those two fish and saved the sage Haàsa from his distress. O gopés, then I went to Çvetadvépa and, lying down on the couch of Çeña in the ocean of milk, I took a nap.

duùkhitä bhavatér jïätvä

nidraà tyaktvä tataù priyäù

sahasä bhakta-vaçyo 'haà

punar ägatavän iha

duùkhitä—unhappy; bhavatéù—You; j 24ätvä—understanding; nidram—sleep; tyaktvä—leaving; tataù—then; priyäù—O beloveds; sahasä—at once; bhakta—by devotion; vaçyaù—conquered; aham—I; punaù—again; ägatavän—came; iha—here.

O My beloveds, when I became aware that You were suffering, I left my nap and came here at once. Your pure devotion has transformed Me into your submissive servant.

Text 24

jänanti santaù sama-darçino ye

dantä mahäntaù kila nairapekñyäù

te nairapekñyaà paramaà sukhaà me

jïänendriyädéni yathä rasädén

jänanti—know; santaù—the saintly devotees; sama-darçinaù—who see equally; ye—who; dantä—self-controlled; mahäntaù—great souls; kila—indeed; nairapekñyäù—neutral; te—they; nairapekñyam—neutrality; paramam—great; sukham—happiness; me—of Me; j 24änendriyädéni—the senses; yathä—as; rasa—taste; ädén—beginning with.

Saintly devotees who have generous hearts, who see everyone equally, who control their senses, and who are aloof from material things, find in their renunciation a great happiness that I give to them. They find it just as the senses find happiness in the sensations that being with taste.

Text 25

çré-gopya ücuù

kñéräbdhau çeña-paryaìke

yad rüpaà ca tvayä dhåtam

tad-rüpa-darçanaà dehi

yadi préto 'si mädhava

çré-gopya ücuù—the gopés said; kñéräbdhau—on the ocean of milk; çeña-paryaìke—on the couch of Çeña; yat—what; rüpam—form; ca—sand; tvayä—by You; dhåtam—manifested; tad-rüpa-darçanam—the sight of that form; dehi—please give; yadi—if; prétaù—pleased; asi—You are; mädhava—O Kåñëa.

The gopés said: O Kåñëa, if You are pleased with us please show us the form You displayed as You rested on Çeña in the ocean of milk.

Text 26

çré-närada uväca

tathästu coktvä bhagavän

gopé-vyühasya paçyataù

dadhäräñöa-bhujaà rüpaà

çré-rädhä-rüpam eva ca

çré-näradaù uväca—Çré Närada said; tathä—so; astu—be it; coktvä—saying; bhagavän—the Lord; gopé-vyühasya—of the gopés; paçyataù—looking; dadhära—manifested; añöa-bhujam—eight-armed; rüpam—form; çré-rädhä-rüpam—the form of Çré Rädhä; eva—indeed; ca—and.

Çré Närada said: The Lord said, "So be it." Then, as the gopés watched, Rädhä and Kåñëa changed Themselves into eight-armed forms of Lakñmé and Näräyaëa.

Text 27

tatra kñéra-samudro 'bhül

lola-kallola-maëòitaù

divyäni ratna-saudhäni

babhüvur maìgaläni ca

tatra—there; kñéra-samudraù—the ocean of milk; abhüt—became; lola—moving; kallola-maëòitaù—decorated with many waves; divyäni—splendid; ratna—jewel; saudhäni—palaces; babhüvuù—became; maìgaläni—beautiful; ca—and.

That place suddenly became the milk-ocean decorated with many waves. Many beautiful jewel-palaces suddenly appeared.

Text 28

tatra çeño bisa-çvetaù

kuëòalé-bhüta-saàsthitaù

bälärka-mauli-sähasra-

phaëä-chatra-viräjitaù

tatra—there; çeñaù—Çeña; bisa-çvetaù—with white coils; kuëòalé-bhüta-saàsthitaù—curled up; bälärka—a rising sun; mauli—crown; sähasra—thousands; phaëä—hoods; chatra—parasol; viräjitaù—splendidly manifested.

Then Seña appeared. His white body was coiled around and around, and the splendid parasol of His thousand hoods was decorated with many crowns glorious as the rising sun.

Text 29

tasmin vai çeña-paryaìke

sukhaà suñväpa mädhavaù

tasya çré-rüpiëé rädhä

päda-seväà cakära ha

tasmin—in that; vai—indeed; çeña-paryaìke—on the Çeña couch; sukham—happily; suñväpa—slept; mädhavaù—Kåñëa; tasya—of Him; çré-rüpiëé—in the form of the goddess of fortune; rädhä—Rädhä; päda-seväm—service to His feet; cakära—did; ha—certainly.

Then Kåñëa happily slept on the couch of Çeña and Rädhä, in the form of goddess Lakñmé, served His feet.

Text 30

tad-rüpaà sundaraà dåñövä

koöi-märtaëòa-sannibham

natvä gopé-gaëäù sarve

vismayaà paramaà gatäù

tad-rüpam—that form; sundaram—handsome; dåñövä—seeing; koöi—ten million; märtaëòa—suns; sannibham—like; natvä—bowing down; gopé-gaëäù—the gs; sarve—all; vismayam—astonishment; paramam—great; gatäù—attained.

Gazing at that handsome form splendid as ten million suns, all the gopés bowed down to offer their respects. They were filled with wonder.

Text 31

gopébhyo darçanaà dattaà

yatra kåñëena maithila

tatra kñetraà mahä-puëyaà

jätaà päpa-praëäçanam

gopébhyaù—to the gopé; darçanam—sight; dattam—giving; yatra—where; kåñëena—by Kåñëa; maithila—O king of Mithilä; tatra—there; kñetram—that place; mahä-puëyam—very sacred; jätam—born; päpa—sins; praëäçanam—destroying.

O king of Mithilä, the place where Lord Kåñëa showed this form is very sacred. It destroys all sins.

Text 32

atha gopé-gaëaiù särdhaà

yamunäm etya mädhavaù

kälindé-jala-vegeñu

jala-kelià cakära ha

atha—then; gopé-gaëaiù—the gopés; särdham—with; yamunäm—to the Yamunä; etya—going; mädhavaù—Lord Kåñëa; kälindé-jala—of the water if the Yamunä; vegeñu—in the currents; jala-kelim—water pastimes; cakära—did; ha—indeed.

Then Lord Kåñëa entered the Yamunä and enjoyed water pastimes with the gopés.

Text 33

rädhä-karäl lakña-dalaà

padmaà nétvämbaraà tathä

dhävan jaleñu gatavän

prahasan mädhavaù svayam

rädhä—of Rädhä; karät—from the hand; lakña-dalam—with a hundred thousand petals; padmam—a lotus; nétvä—taing; ambaram—nearby; tathä—then; dhävan—running; jaleñu—in tyhe water; gatavän—went; prahasan—laughing; mädhavaù—Kåñëa; svayam—personally.

Snatching from Rädhä's hand a lotus of a hundred thousand petals and a cloth, Kåñëa ran, laughing, into the water.

rädhä hareù péta-paöaà

vaàçé-vetra-sphurat-prabham

gåhétvä prahasanté sä

gacchanté yamunä-jale

rädhä—Rädhä; hareù—of Kåñëa; péta-paöam—yellow garment; vaàçé—flute; vetra—stick; sphurat-prabham—splendor; gåhétvä—taking; prahasanté—laughing; sä—She; gacchanté—going; yamunä-jale—in the water of the Yamunä.

Snatching Kåñëa's flute, stick, and yellow cloth, Rädhä also ran, laughing, into the Yamunä's water.

vaàçéà dehéti vadataù

çré-kåñëasya mahätmanaù

rädhä jagäda kamalaà

väso dehéti mädhava

vaàçém—flute; dehi—give; iti—thus; vadataù—saying; çré-kåñëasya—of Çré Kåñëa; mahätmanaù—the Supreme Personality of Godhead; rädhä—Rädhä; jagäda—said; kamalam—lotus; väsaù—garment; dehi—give; iti—thus; mädhava—O Kåñëa.

When Lord Kåñëa said, "Give back My flute!" Rädhä said, "Give back, O Kåñëa, My lotus and cloth!"

kåñëo dadau rädhikäyai

padmam ambaram eva ca

rädhä dadau péta-paöaà

vetraà vaàçéà mahätmane

kåñëaù—Kåñëa; dadau—gave; rädhikäyai—to Rädhä; padmam—the lotus; ämbaram—cloth; eva—indeed; ca—and; rädhä—Rädhä; dadau—gave; péta-paöam—yellow cloth; vetram—stick; vaàçém—flute; mahätmane—to the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Kåñëa returned the lotus and cloth to Rädhä, and Rädhä returned the flute, stick, and yellow cloth to the Lord.

atha kåñëaù kalaà gäyan

mäläm ä-jänu-lambitäm

vaijayantém ädadhänaù

çré-bhäëòéraà jagäma ha

atha—then; kåñëaù—Kåñëa; kalam—sweetly; gäyan—singing; mäläm—garland; ä-jänu-lambitäm—hanging down to His knees; vaijayantém—vaijayanti; ädadhänaù—wearing; çré-bhäëòéram—to Bhandiravana; jagäma—went; ha—indeed.

Then Lord Kåñëa, wearing a vaijayanté garland that hung to His knees, and sweetly singing as He went, traveled to Bhäëòéravana forest.

priyäyäs tatra çåìgäraà

cakära kuçaleçvaraù

paträvalé-yävakägraiù

puñpaiù kajjala-kuìkumaiù

priyäyäù—of His beloved; tatra—there; çåìgäram—decoration; cakära—did; kuçaleçvaraù—the master of all skilfull artists; paträvalé—pictures and designs; yävakägraiù—with red lac; puñpaiù—with flowers; kajjala—with kajjala; kuìkumaiù—and kunkuma.

There Lord Kåñëa, the master of all skillful artists, decorated His beloved with many pictures and designs drawn with colors made from flowers, yävaka, kajjala, and kuìkuma.

keçarädyair harer mukhe

patraà cakära çåìgäre

manojïaà kérti-nandiné

candana—candana; aguru—aguru; kastüré—musk; kesara—and kesara; ädyaiù—beginning with; hareù—of Lord Kåñëa; mukhe—on the face; patram—a design; cakära—did; çåìgäre—in decoration; manoj 24am—beautiful; kérti-nandiné—Rädhä.

The Rädhä, the daughter of Kérti, decorated Lord Kåñëa's face with many beautiful designs drawn in sandal, aguru, musk, and kesara.
